To me the secret to playing mystical teachings is not that it can be cards 5-8 of all your best instants but the ability to play really powerful hate cards in the SB. The perfect example is that there is quite a bit of boggles at my shop which is usually bad for Grixis control decks but because I play 3 teachings it means I can play a card like hibernation SB which is also quite funny against Jund too when you can bound a Goyf a Ooze and a raging ravine. The stories are endless of things I've done with teachings. My favorite is when I teachings for a commandeer against a burn player to steal his bolt when I was at 1 and he was at 3 to ice the game
Teachings is a fine card. If a list is tailored t use it then it can be a star. I don't use it right now, but I'm always thinking about how build decks with it.

Hello, I made a cruel control early 2015 and have been invested in other decks recently and have now come back to looking at it. I was hoping someone could look at my current list and give any opinions on what I have put together. Anything is appreciated, thank you.

Recently built this deck and went to an FNM, but only went 1-3, mostly due to some bad sequence of draws in the 3rd games. Overall, I loved how this deck plays I'd be happy if you could give me some help on my list.
First match up was against Naya Zoo, where in the first game I stalled long enough to cast an Ultimatum, which 2 turns later was Snapcaster'd back. 2nd game he played 3 Collected Companies, the 3rd and a Thalia managed to do me in. In the 3rd game we were trading creatures and removals up to the point where I was facing 2 Knights and a Goyf, and I needed an answer. I had already drawn 3 lands in a row and had an Izzet Charm in hand and had 6 mana up. I didn't cast it to lood, and went for the block and kill a knight. I completely forgot that he could tutor for Kessing and he killed me there. If i had cast the charm I'd have drawn into my Damnation and probably would've crawled back into the game. I also didn't drew a single Terminate that game.
Second match up was against Grixis Control, where in the 1st game the ultimatum gave me the win. In the 2nd game his discard and timely counters won him the game and in the 3rd one 3 Inquisition of Kozilek amd then 2 timely counters on my Cryptic and the following Damnation on a Tasigur won him the game.
Third match up was against Twin, splashing a bit of black. In the first game I managed to take his counters and remove his Exarchs and an Ultimatum made him concede. In the 2nd game we traded resources some resources but his loothouse gave him superior card selection and I couldn't close the game fast enough. In the 3rd after making the mistake of playing an Electrolyze on an empty board, I was promptly punished by a Clique. In the subsequent draws and after getting hit for a few turns by said Clique, I land a Keranos and I needed him to gimme at least 1 spell or bolt of his so i could stabilize. Suffice to say I drew into 6 lands in a row and i was dead.
Last match was against Merfolk. I lost the first game in since I couldn't answer his fish and Vials fast enough. In the 2nd game a Turn 3 Ashiok won me the game, by fogging several turns and providing card advantage via several Silvergil Adept and a Master of Waves. In the third game I destroyed him with a sequence of removals into a Damnation which wiped his 20something power on board.
Some thoughts on the deck: I completely destroyed decks in the first game and I think this boils down to the power of surprise that comes from them believing I am the classic version of Grixis Control. In the games I lost, I wanted some more card flow so I was thinking of going up to 2 Electrolyze and cutting a Cryptic. I reckon a 3rd Inquisition instead of the Clique should be better.
I really, REALLY, want to try and sneak a copy of our elder dragon overlord, but I don't think it's probably the best choice for a card with that many fast decks going around.
Overall, I absolutely loved how this deck plays and I can see that the power is enough to battle with the T1 decks and I would love your input on my list and suggestions in general!
Welcome to the thread MrTzoulis! I would play the third Inquisition and a third Dispel in your 75. You decide which cards to cut as you know your playstyle best
Also what does everyone think about Wandering Fumarole? Seems good to me.

Wandering Fumarole is a very interesting creature land, and I have to say I really like it. It's no Celestial Colonnade or Creeping Tar Pit, but that's fine. I think it's a great card, and I will try to incorporate two into my list somehow, maybe. The art is really wonderful for this card too. I recommend it for the Cruel Control lists.
The card seems great. I'm ordering four foils as soon as I can
I will be trying two in my main deck as well.

Hey there, I've been looking at this thread for a while and finding out unique styles and decks. So I've played some of mine and have found it to be very good butt I'm looking for a bit more to go with it versus what I have for a critique. So this is my list here: http://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/357002#paper
Please I'd like some insight on this, I normally go at least 2-2 depending on the jund or abzan fights I run into. But have gone 3-1 multiple times. Thanks!
I would consider moving Batterskull and Grave Titan from the main as it looks like you have enough finishers.

I never said K command was bad and knew it was going to be a card playable in grixis control. I already tested this card. I played lava claw. This doesnt do anything that doesn't do. both die to bolt. Lava claw can end games in one swing or 2 when this takes 4 to 5 most of the time
I added Serum Visions back in as a 3 of removing Forked Bolt, roast and something else.
@JaceNivBolas I did not mean to single you out, I'm just saying you should do some more testing. The big difference is that Wandering Fumarole only dies to bolt if you are not paying attention. Lavaclaw Reaches dies to shock no matter what

The new land only dies to straight removal or double bolt. I'm pretty sure it has a 0 activation cost and when they bolt it you just activate it in response... Obviously if they sudden shock we are screwed but how many people play that?
Wandering Fumarole dies to Bolt if you try to activate it's ability and your opponent bolts it in response. State based actions are killer

Remember first in last out. So the second WF ability resolves it is a 4/1 then bolt smokes it. This can be done if the opponent responds to the p/t ability being put on the stack.
704. State-Based Actions
704.3. Whenever a player would get priority (see rule 116, “Timing and Priority”), the game checks for any of the listed conditions for state-based actions, then performs all applicable state-based actions simultaneously as a single event. If any state-based actions are performed as a result of a check, the check is repeated; otherwise all triggered abilities that are waiting to be put on the stack are put on the stack, then the check is repeated. Once no more state-based actions have been performed as the result of a check and no triggered abilities are waiting to be put on the stack, the appropriate player gets priority. This process also occurs during the cleanup step (see rule 514), except that if no state-based actions are performed as the result of the step’s first check and no triggered abilities are waiting to be put on the stack, then no player gets priority and the step ends.
704.5g If a creature has toughness greater than 0, and the total damage marked on it is greater than or equal to its toughness, that creature has been dealt lethal damage and is destroyed. Regeneration can replace this event.
