i notice some of the decks arent really solid like you've mentioned, and i did notice that out of the three decks, only 1 of them included a single copy of cruel ultimatum. now that begs a serious question, should we still employ cruel ultimatum as our wincon? or should we evolve and adapt to tasigur?
If someone goes the hard control route (26 lands and limited creatures) I can't see why anyone would ever want to not play cruel ultimatum. It is an 1 card combo.
Keep Cruel Ultimatum. It is a very good card. We only need one copy though.

One copy is fine, but sometimes I wonder about having stuff like more artifacts or utility lands. I even feel like it could be a SB card against midrange decks since against control/combo it is often a countering war and can be risky to cast, and against fast decks its a dead card in hand. It is pretty much a game ender though, yes.
well, he doesn't seem that bad tbh. But his mana cost is just a wee bit too high for my liking. If it was 1 less mana i'd say it would be a pretty decent sideboard card.
I think the 5CMC is nos that bad, you wipe the board on turn 4, after that i think playing him would be pretty much gg.
Besides that, i would like to know if the manlands are the best way to win grindy games, usually they bolt/path/cut it, it really sucks.
I was considering nephalia drownyard as a finisher on these very long games, i know it´s very slow, but if you side in an Ashiok against another control, it goes really fast.
Like i said i´m very new to magic, played T2 for 6 months on Innistrad/Ravnica so maybe my standards for goods cards is kinda outdated.

You can feel free to suggest any cards here mate. We will do our best to give you an informative opinion on their effectiveness.
Master of Cruelties is an interesting card for sure, but at 5CMC there are seemingly better options like batterskull, Keranos etc.
That being said I can see that it would be quite cruel to slowly pick apart an opponent's defenses with kill spells, counter magic and a master of cruelties on the field. Sounds deliciously evil, I might try it at one of the modern events next month

I think Master of cruelties seems very interesting, but sadly i think there are just better things to cast for 5. I plan on running 2 shadow of doubt mb with ghost quarter mb also. Currently i have been running 1 Peer Through Depths and i like it, best to cast when you aren't hurting on land drops.
Jumping in the bandwagon here, more demoralizing is a cruel ultimatum into a snapcaster cruel ultimatum with the snapcaster you just picked from your gy
Which in turn draws you into another cruel ultimatum
I was actually thinking about nephalia drownyard myself lol. The problem though I think is that against tron decks its really really really bad because as soon as emrakul hits their GY they just can't get milled. Also Manlands can block sometimes that can make the difference between losing and winning a game. Finally we play 4 lightning bolts and some electrolyze, we have a solid damage plan with these and so tar pit synergizes with this a bit more than milling would.
Drownyard just doesn't get there. And I'm sticking to the hard control Route and I've been doing really well with the deck. I've gone undefeated at all my events. I've made some few tweaks to my list since the PPTQ but I notice nobody is playing Slaughter pact but that card is house. Master of Cruelties is what I used to play in my standard Grixis list but I can't play him in modern due to the better 5 drops out there. My question is honestly, how do you beat Amulet and Tron. Those decks are insane. I'm thinking about bringing Bribery in against Tron. Also, I've noticed that Ashiok does work against any U or UW Tron deck. I also highly recommend you playing Jace Architect even if you have a token meta or not. He generates so many cards for you. Also, Olivia will crush any mid range deck.
Amulet is not as hard as you think. If they go off turn 1 or 2 we could not likely stop them anyway, so lets focus on ways to disrupt them. Ghost Quarter wrecks amulet. I used that card again this week to shut that deck down hard. I don't play shadow of doubt right now, but if Amulet and Tron were my primary challenges I would have a playset in the 75. Thoughtseize usually works against Amulet, providing that you do not run it in the main deck, because they do not bring in leyline versus control in my experience.
Disrupting Tron and Amulet early is the key. Sowing Salt and Bribery usually don't cut it, because they have inevitability not us. Use Slaughter Games to rip Karn or the Emmy. Use shadow of doubt and molten rain to disrupt lands and searchs then snapcaster that Sh*t back for more ownage.

I tuned in just in time to watch game 3 of that series.
I didn't catch who the second player was (I came into this thread after watching it), but was it Phil Gallagher? What I saw in game 3 seems consistent with the SCG list posted above.
I really like the list, especially the mainboard Keranos, and I think it's great that Tasigur is giving life to previously underplayed decks.
The other list, with Liliana and Olivia Voldaren, feels more like a jund-like midrange deck than what I tend to expect from blue control decks. I don't mean to say it's bad, but Lili in particular makes it seem like it would play really differently than the othe rlist. It's also got its sideboard mixed in, but I think it shouldn't be too hard to pick out what's sideboard material. Blood Moon, Engineered Explosives, Combust, Flashfreeze, Deathmark, Shatterstorm, Slaughter Games are the obvious ones, but that leaves 5 slots. Negate and Dispel maybe? The deck runs enough islands that Shackles seems plausible in maindeck, so maybe Vendilion Clique is in the side.
The list looks like the control experience I'm looking for, but Cryptic and Snap shot up while I wasn't looking, and I thought they were expensive at $20.

List looks solid. Think twice should probably be remand, but otherwise its nice.

I´m new to the forum but i really like this Cruel Control deck.
So to make some sort of contribution i would like to know if anyone has considered playing Master of Cruelties.
He seems like a perfect finisher for a control deck.
Besides that, i would like to know if the manlands are the best way to win grindy games, usually they bolt/path/cut it, it really sucks.
