Got another modern tourney report for everyone. I was using the same list posted earlier.
Round 1: Burn
Game 1: I get burned out after holding him off for several turns with counter magic.
Game 2: I side in batterskull and I was able to counter all his spells and finish him off with a Snapcaster beatdown.
Game 3: I get him to 8 life with a batterskull on the field and a Clique in hand, I am at 3 life and he topdecks to kill me.
0-1
Round 2: Junk
Game 1: I counter and remove all his threats, but eventually lose to a lone siege rhino.
Game 2: I side in batterskull, Mogis, Keranos and thoughtseize. I strip his rhinos out of his hand and resolve Mogis. I let Mogis kill him while countering and removing his creatures.
Game 3: I resolve Mogis again and burn him out.
1-1
Round 3: Weird Land Destruction deck with howling mines?!?
Game 1: He blows up some lands, but I beat him down with snapcasters.
Game 2: He lands two howling mines... which leads to his demise as I draw three each turn and counter everything.
2-1
Round 4:Burn
Game 1: Shot down in flames, Ain't it a shame, to be shot down in flames.
Game 2: I counter everything he has and win with snapcaster and clique.
Game 3: We both get to low life totals, I have a batterskull in hand. He cast skullcrack, I cast countersquall then promptly get boros charmed.
2-2
I will probably use some Dragon's Claws for this store as I saw a lot of burn in the room. I will be putting the cryptic commands back in after I test this list a bit more. I don't really see a need for anger of the gods, but it is good against zoo and dredge I guess.

Just like to say from the perspective of someone who rocked cruel control back in s standard but never felt like it was competitive in modern; including Tasigur looks like a stroke of genius and I'd consider playing the deck again if it works out.
I mean the guy blocks siege rhino all day so that's heavily in his favour. The card draw would be insane in grindy games.

Modern: G Tron, Vannifar, Jund, Druid/Vizier combo, Humans, Eldrazi Stompy (Serum Powder), Amulet, Grishoalbrand, Breach Titan, Turns, Eternal Command, As Foretold Living End, Elves, Cheerios, RUG Scapeshift
my question is this because I'm a bit puzzled, are we actually using Tasigur's ability? I figure if I have a deadhand and that's my only play then sure, last resort style, but do we like him more because he's a good body?
You arent likley going to be casting him as fast as possible, if you can help it. You would also generally run your hand out of anything useable before using his ability. Once you do though, it should make grindier games a lot better.
I still think guerrilla tactics could be a solid card in the new modern format since i'm expecting just a ton of liliana decks and that really is one of our biggest weaknesses in that matchup. If anyone else has tried that card out let me know how it went.
Perhaps it's a bit cute? I think a card like Dreadbore covers a lot more of the format. I won't disagree that Guerrilla Tactics is a Liliana blow-out.
I'm probably going to be cutting Cruel Ultimatum. It's great but it's a ton of mana for an effect that doesn't always win the game (it just usually wins the game). I'll post a list in the next day or two.
dreadbore is also a better snapcaster target and dreadbore can kill things like goyf and rhino which are big threats.
I've been trying out some iterations of the deck lately and I've put together a list of where I'm at so far for others to peruse. Some general thoughts: Mana leak is good once again, remand is still great so I think 2 is correct atm, think twice seems to be good again as a filler of the Dig through time slot so I think maybe 2 think twice 2 remand could work (think twice also very good when they try to hit you with discard spells). Tasigur seems ok but his CA seems fairly slow and when he dies that feels pretty bad lol so I still don't know about that card yet in a heavy control shell. Damnation seems pretty great atm since less finks/voice of resurgence type cards are being played thanks to pod getting the axe, some control decks used to play 2 wrath of gods mainboard, so I think now its ok to play 2 damnation mainboard so we're far less weak to thrun now. murderous cut has been my "Delve" card and it feels really strong as a one of, havent tried out much more than that but for now I think 1 is pretty good place to be. I didn't wanna play 2 cruel ultimatums since it just seems so clunky to draw them early so I decided to have 1 cruel 1 jace split so that I can have the threat of jace ult into cruel and also I do still like jace since a format where planeswalker removal is almost nonexistant is a place that I think they can really shine in. Hes also far more flexible than cruel earlier on and that can be important, I also like the time he buys. Anyways if others don't like that as Jace I'd say in that slot maybe play a Tasigur instead, up to y'all. I went down to 2 spell snare now since we have cut to help out our tempo and snare is a little worse now with delver and voice seeing less play. (also just less remands in general with delver getting the axe).
2 mainboard damnation does quite a bit of work vs the creature decks I must say.
General thoughts of the sideboard: Inquisition of Kozilek is playable again yay for the treasure cruise ban, this card is also great vs burn so it helps that matchup for us, same with dispel. I didn't think Counterflux was necessary anymore, it seems like a relic of the storm days and we have decent amount of disruption to board into so we're pretty set already. I don't like rakdos charm anymore with pod getting the axe, I much prefer relic now since it KEEPS graveyards empty (huge problem with rakdos charm) and it cycles in case you need more gas (Rakdos charm could never do this) its just better vs living end overall. Also the artifact mode didnt really come up too often (we also have shatterstorm for affinity) and the 1 damage per creature ability has never come up for me so i view this as an improvement. Keranos seems like the best sideboard card vs jund, I was thinking guerrilla tactics was alright but I think that keranos might just be better since no one grinds harder than him vs. jund decks and even control decks.
I have 2 sowing salt for tron, and I wanted a third of that effect but one I could feel boarding into other matchups like scapeshift, and I thought 1 fulminator could be great/better vs them so the third effect I decided I would have as fulminator. Also he's decent vs UWR control since they usually have negate type effects and those dont quite get fulminator, but they do get things like molten rain. Same thought process behind it vs. scapeshift since they usually have izzet charm negate etc.
you might want to try out engineered explosives that card is pretty insane against boggles. Like, set to x=1 it has done a TON of work for me in that matchup (I test it a ton since my brother plays boggles, the reason its so great is even if they have multiple totem armors it will almost always strip every aura off the boggle since usually daybreak will fall off too due to lack of other auras on the boggle). Its also just a VERY versatile card, kills blood moon lili and its even great vs. Zoo.
how did i forget about geths verdict!, engineered explosives is really good too!, i think i prefer geths verdict since it can be targeted by snapcaster for more value. although explosives is more versatile and does a decent job against a variety of decks. il have to do some testing.
i was looking at vods of gerard fabiano at scg dc playing sultai control and damn tasigur, the golden fang was doing work. a one mana 4/5 with with the ability to essentially draw a nonland card for 4cmc at instant speed is insane!, i already have seen various grixis decks playing it on mtgpulse so its putting results up. it seems like it will be an excellent addition to help fight the midrange, BGx matchups or control decks. being able to be both a defensive/offensive creature with an ability thats perfect for a control shell and synergy with snapcaster mage, this is perfect for this deck. i might be going 1mb+1sb or 2mb.
im already sold on this card and im keen to hear about other people trying it out and realising how powerful it is
Don't you guys think that Far/Away is a far better choice than geth's verdict? It is the same mana cost, with another relevant ability and better late game option
it's not. Away is cmc 3, geth's verdict is 2. That's a big difference when you need the edict early to beat boggles.

Any decent lists of this deck without cruel ultimatum? It being sorcery speed really bothers me.
Well them that wouldnt really be cruel control, now would it?
cruel ultimatum is by far the most enjoyable card to play in magic, even if it only resolves half the time. the looks and feels of your opponents are priceless lol.
ult jace, get a cruel ultimatum + whatever your best card is. Seems reasonable.

i was thinking, would steam augury be better then think twice if you're playing tasigur, the golden fang as you're putting extra cards in to your graveyard and digging for cards and either getting 2 good cards or 3 mediocre cards? and you can snapcaster steam augury?.
i also think im going to try Godo, Bandit Warlord for the midrange matchup to find batterskull put it in to play while getting a 3/3 creature giving you a second combat phase even better for batterskull, seems good against junk.
i think grixis control is well positioned now, although its one poor match up atm is burn as grixis doesn't have the best life gain.
