Ok, i need a quick reply. What are your thoughts on Jace, Architect of thought in grixis? i was thinking he might be a little strange as a 4 drop, would you tap out for it? i would like to have some opinions before i make a purchase.
I like it in this deck. I think that it is criminally underused in Modern.
Wouldn't v clique just be better than spellheart Here??
Probably, but I do think it's an interesting idea. With that said, I would rather just have more versatile & relevant answers in the sideboard personally.
I just 3-1'ed another daily last night after flaming out the previous event 0-2, although it won't be published since it was a bit smaller than the other modern daily. I came close to beating burn. I was able to hold him off long enough g2 to resolve a cruel with a countersquall backup for his skullcrack, then almost won g3 after resolving a batterskull (he needed a topdeck 3 dmg burn spell to win and drew it), so I don't feel too bad altogether.
If you really want to improve on your burn / mill matchups, I would consider adding elixir of immortality to your deck somewhere since it's very strong vs. both archetypes. If you want, adding a trinket mage package to the sideboard could be helpful with explosives and relic (board out augurs, board in trinket mages + elixir). The only problem with this is that it adds a bit of space to the board, although the trinket mage package is pretty versatile in what you can do with it, so it could be worthwhile. I'll test it out today for kicks.
I bring in Spreading Seas, Spellskite, Countersquall, and my singleton batterskull. The skull rarely does anything since I have to draw into it early and relying on magically hitting that miser isn't a reliable gameplan (even though it's still nice to have), but the other 3 mentions are good at disrupting them long enough to land dat ultimatum. Seas does work since they typically only run 19-20 lands, even if they have another red source in play, it still slows them down long enough to draw into your answers
Jumping in the bandwagon here, more demoralizing is a cruel ultimatum into a snapcaster cruel ultimatum with the snapcaster you just picked from your gy
Which in turn draws you into another cruel ultimatum
How does spreading seas work with Blood Moon? Can we enchant our own non-basic land to make blue mana? That would add a huge amount of flexibility if that's the case.
Edit: it seems it's a time stamp thing. If blood moon gets played first, then you can spreading seas to produce blue. This seems like a great sideboard card that can help get around blood Moon without retooling your mana to be less effective (running more basics). In addition, it's got major game against Tron and Scapeshift. Mocha Latte's been on this card for awhile...it seems very versatile.

Yup, depends on which one comes into play first. If you enchant your own blood crypt after blood moon comes in, then it becomes an island instead of a mountain
hey, did you guys notice that a grixis control list has topped the SCG invitational qualifier at the pro tour weekend? seems valid in post ban meta, if not having faced the changes after PT BOTG.
notable differences: no aotg main, but consume the meek, 2 jace AOT, 1 jace beleren
I question the planeswalkers as they appear to go against the more instant speed nature of the deck. Curious why there is only 1 Teachings in the side. The Crumbling Necropolis seems questionable. Deck looks pretty solid though.
i think 27 lands is definitely an overkill... do you think he'd be better off with 3 inquisitions and 1 clique in the main instead of all 4 seizes in SB?
ok guys, i've been following the forums for some time and been waiting to give my contribuition, but now i'm quite happy with my deck. Since i can't seem to understand the deck posting system on this forum i'll just post a link. Please give advice and ask any questions, as my list is a bit different from those popping here. This is the deck: http://www.mtgdeckbuilder.net/Decks/ViewDeck/cruel-control-grixis-1147216

i think ur list is missing 4 lands, it says 22 lands, 5 creatures and 29 others.......
Yeah I dropped from 3 to 2 and now I'm thinking of cutting elctrolyze entirely :/
Nop, this is wrong, electrolyze gives us an additional card which we definitely need. If we are to cut electrolyze completely we need something to compensate
Just use electrolyze on their end step to the face and draw a card if it becomes a dead card first game. I still find it plenty useful, then if it's useless against creatures in game one then it's easier to know which cards to sideboard out.
Alchemy is great. I wouldn't run less than 2. I'm switching to 4 augurs with the 2 alchemy to help dig for answers and provide some early blocking.

Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.

Edit - yuck, he's on tron
Second edit - yay, he's on urza's breakfast, not normal tron.
Third edit - yeah, bad matchup. Tron + artifact combo into emrakul = not a lot of great ways to interact. He drew fairly well too.

Because there isn't any reason not to just play terminate, the mana fixing makes it so easy to cast that its mana restriction is negligible
