Hey guys I have been wondering something. Would Signal Pest be a worthy include? It cost 1 colorless. It has evasion and boosts our creatures ATK by one. It sounds small, but all our 2/3s hit for 3 now. In the mirror match that can be big plus to include the evasion. And, with GCR and other pumps he can be a threat too.
Signal Pest is kinda a dead card on its own and even when applying Battle Cry to any other critters you have out it still swings for 0 outside the influence of other cards. More of an Affinity card due to being a cheap artifact that can pump bodies in a deck that likes its cheap artifacts that pump bodies.
I'd sooner recommend one of the Mirrodin Heroes (Hero of Oxid Ridge in particular, thanks to having haste with which to immediately get the Battle Cry rolling) or even Hellrider (who's cool for punching damage through, just saying) for that kind of effect, and I'm sure Small Zoo would frown on the idea of playing 4cmc creatures that can't double as a combat trick at half the cost.
Why is everyone so into Choke? I get that it has the potential to completely take over a game, but it seems like with fast lands/check lands these days, it's not even THAT good.
Last week i played twin with naya zoo. Lost the first round on turn 4. I sided in 2x torpor orb and 2x Choke. Second round i put choke on the field, turn 3 and he only had steam vents out, he scooped at once.
third round i won with a turn 2 torpor orb
Choke really did the trick there, i would have lost round 2 without it. even just killing of just 1 land is very very important.

The appeal to Zoo is that you're playing cards that are strong in their own right. If you're utilising Rampager, he's usually a bit more of a precise tool in terms of engineering situations where you can use him without blowout (e.g. using Exalted triggers to bait a bolt within combat) or too much of a valuable tool (generally we struggle against x/4+ blockers) to just spend on picking up the slack for another card which is high variance.
The way I usually like to play Zoo, RDW etc is like they're the smallest midrange in town. Similar card evaluation rules apply.
Hi guys, i wanted to post my list 'cause i found it really good, i lose against few decks and lately i'm enjoing it really much! I'd like to have some feedback from you, but for now here we go:
PS: the sideboard is not complete, i made it with the cards i have, i don't like pithing needle and many other cards, but for now is all i have
Ok so, first, i don't like All in Zoo, few chances in the midgame to win, and coming from legacy i don't feel well emptying my hand at the beginning I wanted a classic Zoo list, but modern tends a lot to the midgame, so i wanted a back plan when the game is stalled out. So i came to these decisions: my core is fast, 16x fast beaters, and 7 dmg to the face. Lavamancer and Rancor (i have still to test ghor clan rampager) give me reach, plus Kessig Wolf Run which has been a wonderful card to tutor (i never felt 2 colorless lands being hard to play with, till now). Then comes the backup plan, 3x KotR 3x Ooze 2x VoR. Ooze and KotR are really something i won't go out without ever, really helped me against long matches, and they surprised a lot my opponents. VoR is in test, i felt something against BGx and Uwr was needed, i liked the card, but i don't find it pretty decent. Stormbreath Dragon has won me a lot of games, neat and clean, nothing to explain here (yea i'm playing with 61 cards atm). Maybe you'll tell me: OMG KotR-tarmo-grim lavamancer-ooze...wonderfull synergy! to be honest i rarely found any problems, but i found some nice tricks! against midrange tarmo decks is allways nice to side out tarmo (heresy!) and to clear the graveyards with oozes and lavamancer (i leave lands for last, in any case they stay in my graveyard, thanks to the Deathrite shaman Ban :() and against control i side out ooze so i can smash with tarmos. The land toolbox saved me a lot of times, treetop and kessig to smash in face, tectonic to remove some bad manlands or the right color at the right time, and horizon canopy to have some range.
Well i'm done now, what do you think, i'm following modern since the time it born, but never played it a lot (our group was strong in legacy), but now here none play legacy so we had to adapt, modern is played everwhere any time, and i really find it fun and challenging! Am i doing something wrong or is it a nice decklist? dont be too harsh, i love how it went out this deck
combo is not heavy in my meta (i'm from Italy),and when i say combo i mean creaturless combo. Affinity i really dont have problems, qasali shatterstorm and the rest of the hate handle them nicely. I don't like zoo midrange, in fact i play small zoo, but with those 6 creatures (KnotR and Ooze) i can have a better match up against those midrange strategies. Till now i didn't find many race problems, a hand like Nacatl, goblin guide, and lightning bolt can make many problems, KotR stays in hands till 4-5 turn, and when it comes down usually it's game. Rancor and grim pushes the race. Smiter...mm yes i think you're absolutely right, i did not think about it, but as i said the sideboard is a bit messed up
8 fetch you're right! thanks for the feedback
I've been testing Vines of Vastwood recently. With few Wraths in the format, this is protection from most sweepers (damage based) and all spot removal. And the buff to push through damage is obviously lovely.
However, I just realized that it has an extra use: it can be used to disrupt a Kiki combo player while they are going off. Sure, it only buys you one turn, but it is a nice bonus that further solidifies my desire to play it.

Makes more sense the the ghorclan rampager thing imo.

No it doesn't. Vines is specifically for PTE decks. It also doesn't provide Trample. Making it the better card against UWR/UW. Either way, in that MU i don't side out Rampagers for Vines. I make room for both. Because you need both.
It's a niche card. GCR is good overall. The double green on Vines is also rough sometimes.
GCR also has the benefit of being an absolute house against Living End. (Which i consider one of the toughest MUs for the deck)
GCR also gets to be drawn off of Domri, and happens to be a 4/4 Trample Creature when you end up in Top-Deck mode, which is infinitely better than a 2cc pump spell.
GCR is significantly better MD. Vines is better in some MUs, though. And in other MUs i like both.
If you have empirical results that say otherwise I'm all ears. (Or eyes, really =p)
Thanks man! Yea i like thalia too, but i wanted a Beater, so i chose smiter, but thalia is a card i'll test for sure! Dunno about path, i think a 4rth in the sb would be nice! -1 ooze +1 Knight seems legit, gonna test it. Thanks again, what do you think about voice of resurgence?
Got third tonight in a 12-man event. I won 2 rounds rather easily, but had a terrible time when it came to Affinity. I won once against them, but lost to gigantic Cranial Platings and Archbound Ravagers. Didn't draw a single Ancient Grudge against him, which is something that would have really helped. Other than that, I did totally fine. I won against an Elf Aggro deck, which is easy to outrace and a Storm deck which is also no big deal. Affinity seems to be rather common, so maybe another Ancient Grudge wouldn't hurt? Who knows.
You are Naya; thus, pack it. Ancient Grudge is nice, but it is mostly used in our mirror matches (I'm an affinity/ robots player first). I say drop it and pack SS. However, how effective is SS against other decks? Any deck could pack 15 hate loving cards against Robots, but you would loose most other games. Another good option that Zoo can run that others can't is Damping Matrix. It costs a little more than you would like, but it stops some combo decks that SS wont.
Or...
Play mid-range. Lantern states you should play mid-range vs Affinit. He is dead on if you are playing Zoo with 12+ anti-creature cards. Always have an open mana to path or bolt a bot, because when you tap out is when we love to slap and tap CP ftw. (if we have a good hand lol) Last player who tapped out on T3 against me was rewarded with 2x CP plus 1 CP already equipped.
The advice from spec.ops is critical for handling Affinity: play midrange! Kill everything they try to do. The difficulty is choosing between extra removal (Ancient Grudge, etc) or removal complement (Stony Silence). Does anyone have any insight on that choice?
For people commenting on my new idea: I have 4x GCR maindeck, with 3 Vines in the SB. Vines is for Path to Exile decks, which are very prevalent in my area.

Thanks, but I'm actually Gruul. I'm thinking of maybe putting in Damping Matrix since Splinter Twin is in my meta and well as Affinity.
Strangely enough, there was another guy named Patrick at the tournament (same name as me) and we were thinking how great it would've been if we paired against one another on St. Patrick's Day.
I had always thought ZOo small or big crushes Affiniy. Is this wrong?
Depends on your SB plan and your MD removal suite.
Personally i have 4 Bolt 4 Path main as removal. Running 2 Helix over more Boros Charms is probably better in this MU. The Gruul lists that run only 4 Bolt and 2 Dismember main might have trouble in G1. Likely, though, they can race and hopefully keep a Plating from hitting them.
I also have 2 Scooze MD, which is rather good at taking control of that MU
Postboard, i leave in my 4 Bolts and 4 Path, and bring in 2 Destructive Revelry, 2 Stony Silence and 1 Ancient Grudge.
I don't have much trouble against Affinity. Other people likely don't have 5 SB cards to bring in, and alot of folks run pure Gruul and don't have the luxury of Stony Silence auto-wins.
To answer your question wingkon, in pure GR i like:
Ancient Grudge
Destructive Revelry
Shatterstorm (if you run 20-22 lands, probably not if you run 18 or 19)
Vithian Renegades (if, say, Qasali Pridemage sounds really good)
Smash to Smithereens
Shattering Spree
