Yes, but the main point is that it doesn't give your opponent the choice. Remember that it will never be the choice you want. The constant debate over browbeat should be a good enough similar argument to reference as an example.
Athreos is definitely worth trying. My Dega Norin has been looking for some way to recover from boardwipes and heavy removal, and I play with a very low mana curve (nothing above 2 cmc) so the one mana cheaper over Enduring Renewal is worth it.

Things WotC cares about:
-making certain Standard cards can be played in Modern, therefore increasing their value and increasing WotC's profit margin
Things WotC does not care about:
-keeping the ban list as short as possible
-taking chances with an entire format for the benefit of a single card
-catering to play styles that newer players generally don't like and will lose them more players than it will gain
-keeping the meta balanced between archetypes/colors/whatever
-keeping cards on the secondary market cheap (available yes, but not cheap)
-keeping the meta diverse (as long as a single deck doesn't threaten the popularity of the format)
I think that the RW lists are missing something important by not MDing Blood Moon. It wrecks so many modern decks by itself and that new Blue Moon deck that recently did well and got some attention is really just famous for using blood moon. The rest of the deck's just vanilla blue control. Here's my list

i still have to try it, but my list is really similar to this, except for magus of the moon instead of blood moon. i feel like this deck need a hoser that can also get us a better board position.
Well I'm a huge hypocrite. i decided to move moon to the SB in favor of more action spells and replaced Ranger of Eos with Mentor of the Meek's crazy card advantage and I'm loving it. Ranger feels slow to me and Mentor is a house late game.
I saw a RW version of this piloted by Frank Lepore at TCG Player and posted it this week. I was watching some of the game play and the deck looks like it is a lot of fun. I am curious about just a couple things with this deck though since I don't have any first-hand experience with it.
1. Ajani's Pridemate. I remember Soul Sisters in standard and how he got big and scary and I see he does it even faster here but what's the point? Is the sole purpose of the deck to wait till we have a Legion Loyalist? Unless I'm missing something, I am not sure as to why this is being played over more Suture Priest or other threats.
2. In his article, Frank mentioned Blasting Station. Have many people given this card a go? I will probably look around for other similar affects of flinging lots of little guys for damage. Purphoros seems like he partially fills a role here but has the problem of no immediate impact. What would be really sweet is a Goblin Bombardment effect. Maybe even something like Hellrider? Or even looser, Burn at the Stake maybe?
I just had an idea to improve our match-up against combo. What if the sideboard could transform the deck into a hyper-agro RW humans deck capable of consistently winning on turn 4 without disruption.
My sideboard
4 Honor of the Pure
4 Elite Vanguard
4 Soldier of the Pantheon
3 Goblin Guide
Remove
4 Norin the Wary
4 Genesis Chamber
3 Mentor of the Meek
2 Ranger of Eos (I only play 2)
2 Ajani's Pridemate
Obviously it isn't perfect, but it seems fun. Opinions?
Won against small zoo, UW control and Scapeshift (got really lucky in this match), lost against TarmoTwin.
Never killed anyone with Champion, as it never got big enough to be a threat - always got killed on sight. Blood Artist was really good, especially against small zoo. Purphoros also did like 12 damage in a turn winning the game. Bob was good against control, but not stellar agains other decks. Never played Revival because all games were very fast. Always sided it out.
I really wanted Boros Charm when opponent cast Anger of Gods, will try two MD.
Now I got a couple of Blasting Stations and will try WR version with Mentor of the Meek instead of Bob.
Also I had some mana issues, played only 4 fetchlands. Hopefully WR will be easier to manage.
What would you take out to add Athreos? I feel this deck can be a lot more consistent/resilient because of what he does. I've been trying to think of a BW list but RBW seems like it would do better thanks to Norin constantly coming in and out of play. Not only that but your Champions will be down but not out. Having more soul sisters to put into play after a board wipe is never a bad thing either.
Ad Nauseum, Scapeshift, Amulet of Vigor, and Living End are going to destroy this.
That's fine. I don't play against any of those decks and this is a Norin the Wary deck, it's meant to be casual and fun. If you have any thoughts on creatures or low cost spells that would help the somewhat agro build im going for I'd appreciate it, not just "this will get destroyed" which doesn't help much. im already finding that I need to protect champion of the parish from removal, so ill be adding some brave the elements.
I've been thinking about putting Norin in my deck, as I play champion of the parish and auriok champion. I don't understand playing 4 though. He's legendary and once he's in play your opponent can't get rid of him. Anyway, here is my deck:

You're playing 4x (or 3x) Norin the Wary because he a critical part of each combo you're playing.
Soul Sisters + Norin = Gain life every turn
Champion + Norin = Champion gets larger, brings bigger beats
Norin + Purphoros = Damage every turn.
Norin + Genesis Chamber = Tokens, Tokens, Tokens
You want to see Norin all the time. Your deck isn't a Norin deck because you're not relying on Norin to enable combos. It's just a deck that features Norin.
