Essence Warden is great against aggro and burn, the matchups where you'd bring it in. Though you want to run more than 2 in your board, otherwise you may not find it or find it to late, and having 2 on the field is just incredible. Fragile yes, but if it eats a burn spell that's totally fine too.
I run Varolz and Viscera Seer in my deck as sac-outlets, and that makes Essence Warden absolutely bat***** insane. I can repeatedly sac VVines, Bloodghasts, and most of all Gravecrawlers to gain huge amounts of life (As a side note, doing things like this also untaps VVines to block after combat). I've pondered even moving a warden or 2 into my maindeck, because they can be so incredible.
Bottom line is that Seer is one of the best cards in the deck and Essence Warden is a decent sideboard card with or without Seer.
I've found Gnaw to the Bone to be a bit slow / underwhelming, but it's probably better in a version that runs dredge cards.
Hey all,
I just wanted to run by my current Jund aggro list. The only dredgers I used to have were the pair of Darkblast. My sideboard and manabase need some tuning. I can report that the Flamewake Phoenix is the real deal. This card is insane. I may look to add more. It gives so many more insane starts. I tried to maximize creatures that could trigger ferocious with my Vines, Mandrills, and sometimes Lotleth Troll can get there. I'm running a linear aggro deck so I don't want any cards in my hand that I don't wanna cast so no dredging and no Dregscape Zombie. I like Combust going forward with Twin likely seeing more play. I'm trying a Murderous Cut for Junk/Jund for Rhinos and Goys but I'm not sure if that is correct. I hope to get my hands on some Abrupt Decay and Tasigur, the Golden Fang. I think my list can support another delve creature with all the graveyard enabling so I may cut Tymaret for Tasigur as it's also a card that will enable Flamewake Phoenix. Any feedback or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Heads up skitzafreak, there was more aggro than I was expecting. the usual suspects were still playing u/r twin, scapeshift, and uwr (Midragne and control), but there was a fair bit more aggro, and most surprisingly, it wasn't affinity: 4 burn lists, 2 infect lists, 2 boggles lists. I got a buddy going tomorrow, and if it's still aggro city, my side will be something like this:
I didn't do too hot tonight, 0-3. on the bright side, I misplayed a fair bit, and won't in the future.
Match 1: Played against a 4c gifts deck tonight, and i honestly could have won both games. game one was a drawn out affair, basically coming down to if i can trigger drredgevines or not: opponent at 8, i have tasigur on board and am dead next turn after he attacks with a rhino and his own tasigur. 4 lands, bloodghast in hand, activate tasigur on my opponents endstep: mill the satyr wayfinder i needed, draw a land. game 2 i have him at 5, dead on my next swing, and he topdecks timely reinforcements, which buys him time to get a siege rhino into play. They were both good games, it happens. i probably should have attacked some of the turns i held back in board stalls.
match 2: boggles. he wins the die roll, crushes me game one: by the time I get a vengevine and a tasigur out (turn 4) he already has an 8/8 firststrike trampler. game 2, i kill him handily: (t2 lotleth troll, end of his turn discard bloodghast, gravecrawler, and golari grave troll, untap, dredge 6, play my satyr wayfinder in hand, hit my black landdrop, play tasigur, swing 6 with troll (discard ggt again). staring down 2 2/1's a 6/5 and a 4/, he scoops. Game 3 was the closest, in the sense that i actually had a tasigur and bloodghast when he killed me (with 2 crawlers and 3 lotleth trolls, plus satyr wayfinder, in the yard. i really needed to find my gnaw the bones in the match, had i gotten it at any point it would have been 8 + life.)
match 3 was infect. i lost game 1 after presenting a lethal board (he was on the play). game two i lost because of an embarrassing misplay on my part (misread wild defienace, thought it was just when he targets them. had i just murderous cut, i would have won). I was a bit tired at this point, 3 hours sleep isn't a lot.
all in all i actually had a lot of fun, even though i only won 1 game the whole night, it felt like, of the 6 games i lost, i could have won 4 with more luck and better play. there's a lot of intricacies with this deck that go against standard conventions in magic (holding back playing things to make one big, bursty turn).
Went 2-1 with my list tonight beating 8Rack and Hatebears and losing to Gifts (he had gifts into Elesh Norn all 3 games on curve, I was able to beat it once by playing massive 17+ power trolls). I also play tested vs. Esper control and won every game and also vs. Junk and won most of the games.
The deck seems pretty good and can have some explosive draws and can win in any of the grindy games. Although the deck mulligans more than I'd like it to due to not enough lands. It also has problems getting going if they counter/discard/disrupt your one or two ways to discard/start dredging. I really like my current list but I do think I could use even more enablers/filtering. They help enable explosive draws while also making it so you can dig for lands/dredgers early.
Hedron Crab gives you the most explosive draws where you can get 2-4 vines out by turn 3. Whereas most draws will get out 1-3 vines by turn 3/4. However, I think I'd rather be a little bit slower but more consistent. It will make your pre-board games vs. aggro/combo a little worse but that can be shored up in games 2 and 3.
So with that in mind I'd like to have more enablers that draw/discard cards on turn 1/2 (not cards like glimpse the unthinkable since you can't draw into lands). Wild Guess would be a prime example but the double red is much too difficult in an already incredibly color intensive deck. Thought Scour is close but is a bit too weak imo.
What are people's thoughts on 3 mana enablers? Are they too slow? I am referring to cards like Dark Deal, Compulsive Research, Thirst for Knowledge and Shattered Perception. You could have an extremely consistent turn 4 deck if you filled your deck with Dredgers, 2cmc and 3cmc enablers and vines/crawlers/stitchers.
I played on MTGO last night and got 3 matches. I played Junk Midrange, Merfolk, and a Ghostaway list that Frank Lepore played. I won 2-1 vs Merfolk. I'm still struggling vs Junk (0-2). I was down (0-1) vs Ghostaway, but he ran out of time, so I technically won, but I was a turn away from losing g2. I'm counting that as 1-2 for the night.
I think what will help is having another playset of 1-drops that's aggressive. Bloodsoaked Champion can't block, Birds of Paradise can't do any damage. What would people recommend as a 1-drop that would fit in this deck?

Another route would be to try to speed up the deck and only rely on 2 lands pre-board (post board you can use your filter effects to find 3 lands before you start dredging). We can speed up by adding more 1 cmc enablers, cutting lands and the Mid game cards like Skaab Ruinator. The only 1 cmc enabler I can think of besides Hedron Crab and Faithless Looting would be Thought Scour but that's a distant third.
Alternatively, a grindier/slower but more consistent list that always wants to get to 3 lands and gets to play almost entirely at instant speed except for your "go off" turn that also has utility from Izzet Charm would be something like the following.
We have two great avenues to beat Lingering Souls available.
If you're running Varolz/Death's Shadow, then Hooting Mandrills adds more trample and more ways to push through damage.
If you're running a more traditional list, Golgari Charm out of the sideboard is probably the best bet. It's got utility in other matchups too, but primarily it eats 1/1s.
If you're really desperate, you could always pack some number of Legion Loyalist. The difficulty is that if you mill him you're out of luck
Legion Loyalist has haste and makes our big attacks deadly. Often a win-more.
Bloodhall Ooze gets enormous for a one drop in our list, but has no evasion
Vexing Devil ends up in the GY a lot more than it ends up as a beater. At least it hits for 3 on the way there, and can be scavenged for profit with Varolz
Grim Lavamancer isn't bad, but competes with the Delve creatures
Goblin Guide is never too bad for an aggro deck
Viscera Seer is a great Sac outlet, but probably more of a sideboard card against Anger (or if you're running Bridge from Below)
Hooting Mandrills/Tasigur These are one-drops in our list for sure. If you're not already running them you should. I run 2 Mandrills myself

Went 3-2 yesterday with my all in list. Won vs Uwr control, blue moon and bogles, lost 2 times vs burn. This matchup sucks... The others felt rather easy, though!
What's your current list? A few Gnaw to the Bone should fix that matchup post board.
Gnaw is pretty bad against burn, because you can't afford to keep mana up to play Gnaw because we can't win without advancing our board, and they can skullcrack us and negate what we're doing (and if we stop tapping out, they'll start playing around everything. I certainly bring in gnaw against aggro decks post-board, but it's not nearly enough to fix the Burn matchup specifically. Essence Warden and maybe even Scavenging Ooze are the cards I'd try if you're in a burn heavy meta

I agree, Skullcraack does make Gnaw quite a bit worse, which is why I personally only have one in my sideboard. If we had more red spells in this deck Dragon's Claw could be a bit more useful.

Muten. Put a vengeful Pharoah or 2 in your sideboard. I've yet to lose a game to burn. Basically I either get a gnaw or a Pharoah and I win. Pharoah burned through three guides and a swiftspear. I'm curious what did you do against hatebears and boggles? I've lost my match ups there(close against boggles not very against hate bears).
Value is good. But Dredgevine isn't supposed to be about value. It's supposed to be about V-8; 2000 pounds of nitro boosted war vegetables. The more velocity, the better.

There is currently an interesting post about Dredgevine on Reddit. I know the OP has been testing and also has seen/used my lists. OP recommends some Dredge and maybe that's right! I think it is worth a read.
I just started to test Stinkweed Imps again and so far it sped up the deck considerably. Maybe some dredge in moderation is the way to go. I am OK with Stinkweed Imp as long as I can use it. At least it is a good carrier of Varolz counters.
What do you mean by "some" dredge? I would definitely say my version is hardcore dredge, Basically I make everything have some use while in the graveyard. Thugs take all my creatures that end up there lethal too.

Question. How many people are having trouble with the Bogles match up?
From the sounds of it some people seem to be struggling a little bit, which may warrant a sideboard slot or two. After taking a look at different cards I'm thinking about the possibility of two different cards to run in the sideboard if you are having trouble with Bogles.
1) Dead Drop. Don't let the mana cost scare you. If you're running Dredge cards, while Delving 9 can be a tall order, it isn't impossible (this is where Grave-Troll can shine over Stinkweed, that extra card will count for stuff like this). Making them sacrifice two creatures can be worth the payoff though as I've seen a lot of Bogle decks just have a Dryad Arbor just sitting around in play for them to use to deal with sacrifice effects. Making them sac the arbor, as well as what they are throwing all their enchantments on, might be what you need. Especially when you can cast this for only a single mana.
2) Fleshbag Marauder. I feel in most lists, this is better than Dead Drop honestly. There are two huge benefits behind using this card. The first is its ability to be grabbed off of a Grisly Salvage, which in a way technically makes it tutorable. The second, is that its a zombie, which gives you another zombie to use to get back your Gravecrawlers. Hell one really tech play you can make is to play the Maruader, sacrificing a Gravecrawler, then casting the Gravecrawler you sacrificed to get back all your Vengevines.

With 12 creatures in the average Bogles deck, chances are they hit at least 2. I'd go with Dead Drop. However, remember Ray of Revelation has flashback. Generally, waiting to hit a Daybreak Coronet usually is their ending.
