damn, that is a pretty sweet hatebear. maaaybe good enough to see main deck play, but probably not. both clauses arent really outright hosing anything, but provides some amount of disruption against a lot of stuff.
-pacts
-0 cost artifacts
-phyrexian mana
-suspend
-cascade
-split cards (im pretty sure that's how cmc works now)
-lands producing multiple mana (amulet, tron)
-non-creature delve (become immense is the only one that comes to mind)
-certain flashback spells (back end of souls on turn 2, conflag)
-mana dorks
-rituals/artifact ramp
maybe some other stuff im not thinking of. its not stopping most of that stuff, just making it more awkward to use. so yeah maaaaybe good enough
yeah i could see it making more waves in legacy. more decks are operating at a low land count.
i mean if that first clause just said 'spells' instead of noncreature the card would be a slam dunk. right now though it seems like its good against decks that any hatebear-esque deck is...already kinda good against. i mean does humans really need ANOTHER way to beat up on decks leveraging the stuff i mentioned, while also being a 2 mana creature that dies to all the same things? color me skeptical

Modern: UWGSnow-Bant Control BURGrixis Death's Shadow GWBCoCo Elves WCDeath and Taxes (sold)
It could be a Sphinx, bird, kithkin, angel(this could really match well), merfolk(although I don't remember which is the last time they printed a UW merfolk, most are UG this days and I don't believe this is changing anytime soon), drake(the flavour does not really match here), vedalken, spirit(alhtough we probably did not want that, and I am unsure if the flavour matches). It could be a freaking griffin, but again, flavour problem.
last UW merfolk card i remember is Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper, and that is only because i remember opening one at the BFZ pre-release.

i mean im still low key hoping that wizards pulls a fast one and reprints Containment Priest in RNA despite it being in UMA. even if it is a human. seems right in the azorius flavor wheelhouse.

The CMC of a split card on the stack is the CMC of the side that was cast which is how it always was. The recent-ish change was to the CMC of split cards everywhere else. Beck//Call under the old rules had two different CMC's 2 and 6 which under the old rules meant it was able to be taken by Inquisition of Kozilek. Under the new rules the card has one CMC which is 8. Each side retains its own identity though so when it goes to be cast it is only what is printed on its side. Beck is a 2 CMC spell and Call is a 6 CMC spell.
So basically it doesn't really effect split cards. Not that there are a ton of split cards in modern anyway. It does stop Miracle though so no more Terminus on turn 3/4.
I feel so blue balled reading that I thought it said creature not noncreature. It blocking noncreatures makes it far less useful in modern in my book and really just another tool for humans when control is what needs help. The cost cheating that matters to me are all creatures not noncreatures unless its Tron in which case it blocks Ugin and Karn.

But then so does Gaddock Teeg which Humans is already playing.
That new Lavinia is a decent hatebear but it won't really change anything. Containment Priest which tronix already mentioned would have a far bigger impact on the format and despite being a Human the deck couldn't really play it since it shuts down their own Aether Vials

So it doesn't stop Wurmcoil or Ulamog or Worldbreaker. :/
But hey, at least it's a Human?
Oh hell legacy almost every deck is affected by Lavinia. Terminus, Entreat the Angels, Mox Diamond, Chrome Mox, Lotus Petal, Lion's-eye Diamond, various sol lands, hell even mana rituals. Hell it even shuts down attempts to flashback cabal therapy.

I mean is it better then Gaddock Teeg for Humans? That is the only question to my mind. But like I said seems it to do its best work in Legacy or Vintage as compared to Modern. At best its a slight improvement on Gaddock Teeg for Humans Decks. Still its funny we were just talking about Humans looking a bit soft of late and then the deck gets a shot in the arm.
Honestly though this card feels more GW to me then UW...GW is the color pair that cares about hosing noncreature decks whereas UW is suppose to care about hosing creatures decks
I agree.
I would run this over Teeg as it hoses the same cards from decks that i would bring in Teeg against.
It has the upside of being human and more easy to cast, over the raw powerlevel of Teeg.

Exile the top two cards of your library. Until the end of your next turn, you may play those cards.
(spectacle = can cast for spectacle cost of opponent lost life that turn)
the effect for just R aint too bad. i could see some arclight deck running it.

As for Lavinia I guess she does good things in Vintage or Legacy they have cheap zero cost artifacts right?
But hey, at least it's a Human?

Does Lavinia stop storm'ed spells? (The copies) EDIT: no, it does not. It's when the opponent casts the spell. Oh well.
Are you sure it doesn't? I would say yes;
The copies go on the stack and no mana has been spend for these copies.. so they should be countered?
It's strange;

Lavinia triggers when an opponent CASTS a spell. The copies are not cast.
