yeah the effect of karn in affinity is two fold. it makes them more resilient to removal, but more importantly it gives them another nut draw that doesnt involve plating or ravager. opal + drum spitting out a turn 2 karn on the play is ridiculous.

speaking of being good against removal. i played against karn affinity for the first time. baby karn is ridiculous in that deck. i got handily dumpstered by early karns pumping out pseudo cranial platings.
This was my first experience against it. He had turn 1 Steel Overseer, turn 2 Karn make a 7/7. I just had to laugh. I think it also has legs in Eldrazi Tron but it's really hard for that deck to get any traction when Humans and Affinity are widely played.
I have never laughed this hard in my life. This makes me want to build a turn 2 Karn deck right now

Find it funny to see this, considering I just watched the video of this match today.
Haha wow, I didn't realize he mulliganed that game as well. That game 2 was painfully awkward as well, I was just between a rock and a hard place for every play.

I clicked on the link to see if it was my friend who has been running Karnfinnity on MTGO for a few weeks now.
That streamer is the famous Zyrnak, a streamer who I watched quite a few leagues myself when I wanted to improve on Affinity. He's a pretty accomplished player and Affinity is HIS deck.
Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)
Draft - (I wish I had more time for limited...)
Commander - Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build) (dead format for me)
WOTC seems good at making Karn Walkers suppose him only having two makes it easier to make two great ones. But I mean they tried three times on plenty and haven't been that consistent maybe colorless makes it easier.
But yeah Karn is giving Affinity a noticeable boost.

Yeah I've played against him a few times now and see him at the top of the leaderboard. Didn't know he was a streamer though. He was actually on Hardened Scales a couple of the times we played.
So he loves Artifacts and Enchantments...How is Hardened Scale these days anyway?
As far as I can tell it's nutty powerful if you have the eponymous card, and a bit underwhelming if you don't. I think Sam Pardee was saying that it's just 1 card short of being a real deck (paraphrasing) and that seems accurate.

Ah is the one card a similarly costed Hardened Scales Variant? Yeah decks that reliant on a single unique card have problems.
As someone who not uncommonly faces 3 Affinity in a 4-round tournament at his LGS, I'm clueless about how to handle Karn. What do you do when Affinity gets a card that increases their nut-draw density by 50% and is resilient against hate?

Given the usual sentiment of modern players? Break out the ban hammer

Eh Karn is a problem it comes down with 5 Loyalty, 6 if you plus it which basically means puts it clear out of range of most threats. Needs two Bolts to put down. Most attackers cannot do it. Basically nothing but Planeswalker specific removal can touch him of which there is very little in modern outside of dreadbore. So basically don't let it hit the field.
well i dunno if karn improves affinity's consistency THAT much. more maindeck abrades might be appropriate. itll be interesting to see if karn is the proverbial straw that breaks the camels back. ive only played against it once so far so i cant really tell.

Sam Black names Horizon Canopy as the card to ban if need be for Humans. He does say that nothing needs and nothing will ever need to be banned probably though, because the deck is playing a normal game of magic, as it should be.
Humans is clearly fine and even if it was at 20% (and I am pretty sure it's >10% on MODO), it would be fine.
Not disputing the fact that the deck is fine. I'd much rather lose a match to humans then most combo decks (personal preference).
The issue, imo, is that they've stapled obscene value riders on humans for years and were still seeing stuff like dauntless bodyguard. It looks harmless, but it's probably a heck of a lot stronger then thraben inspector in some metas, which is a card stapled to a 1 drop 1/2. Inspector is already showing up.
I don't dislike the deck per se, but I also think it's silly to have to run subpar cards so that your opponent won't name them with meddling mage. We're already seeing concessions in sweeper packages and spot removal because of this. That is, imho, the beginning of deck warping. It's not there yet but we're definitely driving in that general direction.
I'm not calling for bans. I'm just not sure how you bring the deck inline IF it gets out of hand. There is either collateral damage on other decks or sufficient replacements should that ever be the case. Considering how ubiquitous humans are on every world, it's more of a when and not an if to me.
So...that mox opal ban may be a thing soon. I'd be cool with it. I'm a little concerned about humans from a diversity standpoint, as it seems like every major event has humans as one of the most successful decks if not the best. Still, its tough to root for a ban of a fair deck, especially one that keeps those spell combo decks everyone hates in check.
Nut draws are nut draws. The whole point of playing a linear deck is the capitalize on your very powerful draws especially when your opponent is playing Tron and dosnt want to interact the first 3 turns of the game.
Its an aggro meta and people need to react to it. The meta will change, it always does. It not then they just need to unban cards.
Not thrilled with the idea of rolling into FNM tomorrow and wishing I had dusted off my copies of Hero's Downfall. Karn definitely looks like he powers up Affinity, but it's too early to say if he's broken it. That being said, I have a personal beef with one of my hardest matchups getting even stronger. :-\
One card I think a lot of people are sleeping on is Song of Freyalise. Granted it doesn't slot into any Tier 1 decks that I know of, but it does give a lot of juice to GW tokens and Abzan/Naya decks I've seen.
