The talk about banning Aether Vial is absurd, and such a ban is completely unrealistic. This thread is full of stuff like that though, people have argued for a Tarmogoyf ban too. Stuff like that is best ignored instead of giving it half a page`s worth of attention.
I`ve no idea where this talk about a Mox Opal ban comes from either. I think it`s one of those cases where two people saying "I think Mox Opal should be banned" turns into "I`ve heard that Mox Opal might be banned" and then into "Everyone is talking about how Mox Opal will probably be banned". I think that they shouldn`t touch anything but the Eldrazi right now. Let the format settle for a while now, it`s been a rollercoaster.
Well, we have mimics that came out for free, and if a turn 2 Seer or turn 3 Smasher came out, it would be massive damage
Mox opal usually pumps out an extra vault skirge or colored mana for a game 2 thoughtseize, it doesn't vomit out resilient 5/5 creature copies.
Mox opal is NOT Eye. People have no understanding of the deck, if you ban mox opal, the deck is dead. It won't be regulated to tier 2, or a popular tier 3 deck, the deck will be dead. This sets a HORRIBLE precedence to just keep banning the best deck over and over again, which we are already on track to doing
There's no deck that really makes me cringe because it's broken except maybe for the Grisebrand shoal deck.
I have personal problems with Bogles, and maybe Tron, but I'm not calling for their bans, I know those are biased feelings I have towards the decks. I just can't believe all this crying about cards that aren't broken.
BAN: Eldrazi Temple, Eye of Ugin, Glistener Elf, Scapeshift, Pyromancer's Ascension, Griselbrand, and every other possible combo in Modern (except for the sacred cow of Splinter Twin).
UNBAN: Deathrite Shaman, Bloodbraid Elf, Ancestral Vision, Jace the Mind Sculptor, Stoneforge Mystic, Splinter Twin, Birthing Pod, Sword of the Meek, Dig Through Time, Punishing Fire
That will be the best Modern ever.
As bitter as you sound about that, the format sounds pretty good with those suggestions, no one has fun playing against most of those combo decks, although I don't mind Elves or Scapeshift
Some guy says "wizards said they still want the deck to be playable"
You come out with a short quip designed to rile people up by saying "that's a myth, they never said that"
But they did....
It doesn't matter which parts of an interview you bold out, or what the veiled intention was, or what the ultimate conclusion may be from the whole thing... Aaron forsythe did actually say they want the deck to stick around.
I don't appreciate being called "silly" when you make intentionally argumentative statements as bait.
Back on topic; can anyone confirm this supposed mtgo beta issue where eye and opal became unplayable?
AF stated it as his personal goal, not as a representation of what WotC will do. And in the very next breath he said it's equally likely they do nuke it. If you don't see that in the quotes then it can only be intentional, which is silly.
And my original statement wasnt intended as bait. I thought everybody had read the quotes and could use common sense to realize "they" (wotc) never said that and even though AF did he also stated its direct opposite as being equally likely.
this thread got bad this week. Let's ban everything from Affinity! Eidolon, Inkmoth Nexus! Lightning bolt is too oppressive! Bogles is too stronk, oh no's!

Meh, it always gets bad right before the announcement. 2 weeks we will be back to our regular scheduled "unban bbe, sfm, sotm" debates and all these "ban everything" and "unban everything" people will return to going 2-2 at fnm
BBE isn't getting off that list until Jund hits tier 2 and stays there for a while, SFM is in my head the exact same logic WOTC used for Splinter Twin, it's a package that slots into multiple control decks, it has no chance coming off. I sold my copies of SFM after the Twin ban, she isn't coming off for years, if ever
Sigh. I guess we can have people complain about how obvious aggro/combo-centric the format will be. Will be curious to see if blue really sucks, or just kind of sucks

I'm hoping they unban something. Wishful thinking... but it would be nice. What time is the ban announcement?

I agree about SFM but the real problem with SFM is batterskull is it not? I feel like they could swap the two on the ban list and SFM would only be another pretty good card in a format of pretty good cards. What other equipment sees Modern play aside from Batterskull anyway?

this isn't directed at you but is just a general gripe. Since when was sfm part of the normal unban talk? As far as I can tell it only traces back to the promo and the unfounded connection people were making to modern. Before that I think most people knew it would never be a modern card.
They're going to ban something from Eldrazi, most likely eye of ugin, then unban nothing, then see how the post-twin post-eldrazi meta looks like, then perhaps act with an unban in another 3 months if linear aggro-combo decks are still the dominant ones. That's what's going to happen.
This is the most likely scenario, although not very exciting. THey'll just take Eye of Ugin and then wait to see what will happen in a Twinless, Eldraziless meta and perhaps act in the next upcoming B&R announcement.
I doubt it would be eldrazless if only one land gets banned. If one sol land is too good for the format then both are and they should ban accordingly.

You are right, though after the promo it was just hilarious how everyone riled each other up until lots and lots of people were actually surprised when it didn`t get unbanned. Since that, SFM has kind of been a symbol on how this echo chamber of a thread can loop and crawl completely up its own butt.

Since the promo. I've seen it comes up at least once a week since then, I'd be surprised if it didn't become a permanent resident of this thread

Wait..So basically the only deck that was capable of doing anything during eldrazi winter other than eldrazi, and has been doing well for years despite SBs being filled with hate for it, is fine, but a deck that sees virtually no play scares you?
I am normally against bannings but as of today, right now, the best format is one without eye of ugin and mox opal.
Problem is that banning Eye of Ugin will also weaken Tron, which has done nothing wrong (yet).
I don't want to aim this at *you* specifically because you're not wrong, but this is another sentence that gets repeated over and over and over again, and usually with a more detrimental tone.
I played pre-Tron in the the days of Summoning Trap/Breach/Shusher, through its Chromatic evolution until the inclusion of Ugin and Newlamog.
I didn't play Tron because Eye gave me a turn 5/6 discount, nor did I play Tron because late game I could basically tutor-loop Wurmcoils or get Emrakul.
I played Tron for the turn 3 -> huge mana -> tapout huge threat/dig -> go. If that didn't work, you were digging and tapping out turn after turn.
Eye of Ugin was a bonus. I even played Academy Ruins, that's how greedy I was!
Who honestly cares if poor ol' Tron loses their single Eye tech? Honestly? It matters, sure, and matter-of-factly it does weaken them a bit, so you're correct Sugar.... but I don't think anyone should use it as an excuse to say "dear God! Eldrazi is such a problem but poor Tron! How will it remain a sweet deck without its inevitability via this single land tech!?!"
Problem is that banning Eye of Ugin will also weaken Tron, which has done nothing wrong (yet).
Eldrazi Temple is the biggest threat, according to the most experienced players here since you can have more than a copy of it on the battlefield AND gives the needed colorless mana for Displacer, TKS, Smasher and so on while Eye does not.
Double agree with that, Tron is already so easy to hate out of the meta-game if needed. Banning the Eye of Ugin would hurt the deck a lot.

when one deck is 50% of the meta you either play that deck or a deck that beats it. Affinity has game against Eldrazi so is doing better than normal because of the warped meta. Without eldrazi affinity will go back to what it's always been. In my opinion that is under the ban threshold, but I also thought that about twin.
And just in time, the "poor tron" posters come out to play again. Also banning SSG to nerf Eldrazi is truly laughable. SSG hasn't been a factor in Eldrazi lists for months. The colorless Eldrazi build running SSG to power oit a T1 chalice fell out of favor shortly after the PT when it became clear that it was the worse version in the "mirror" matches. I haven't played against a colorless version in quite some time while U/W, G/R, and U/R are commonplace with the occasional B based processor list sprinkled in.
Problem is that banning Eye of Ugin will also weaken Tron, which has done nothing wrong (yet).

So, it will lose the buy status in the fair matchups. Fair matchups will actually have a shot now. I will call it a good day today if it happens.
As a person who has played Amulet Bloom AND Twin you sure have interesting view on things. But I guess you have a point.
Imo, banning Eye, apart from doing what it is meant to do (making eldrazi a deck that is not Tier -1) it could finally get rid of the problem Tron has, which is basically inevitability against many matchups.
It is a deck that can simply win by not missing land drops, assembling tron and searching for your fat eldrazi (emrakul, Ulamog, you name it) and casting it.
If they remove the eye, it will still have the monster turn 3 plays, which is the risk/reward factor of the deck, but not be just on another level and not being able to interact with search for emrakul, cast it, win.
I dont think it will make or break tron, but we will se in just a few minutes =P
I hope we will have a serious ban this coming two hours. As said before, eldrazi mirrors are just killing this format with boredom.
