I have long said Twin needed a ban and here it is.
Thanks Wizards.
It might not have been taking over the metagame as much as it once did but I still maintain that this is because of the price of things like Snappy and Tarn. Rending Volley also did a good job of keeping it down.
Many decks are simply unplayable because you lose to twin so you need to build in such a way where you have removal in your deck at all times.
Look for blue draw spells to be unbanned now that they don't help Twin take over the meta.
It's incredible what the implications of this are on the format. Absolutely incredible. Everything changes. Base decks can change, the bar to which decks are judged has changed, sideboards change, everything.
I don't know how to process this information right now. I don't think anyone saw a Splinter Twin ban coming. I suggested that they might CONSIDER something like Serum Visions and people said it was ridiculous. What a bomb of an announcement.
Some people did suggest it, and got laughed out of the room. "Pillar of the format" and all that. I didn't believe it either.
Holy hell. Modern just got a lot weirder, and I don't know if it is for the better.
Holding out hope that the twin ban isn't real.
It implies that the format is meant to be super standard, not legacy light, and certainly not its own unique thing somewhere between. Learning to play against twin is rewarding, doable, and I think a perfectly fair test of another decks ability to compete (run removal, read their hand, read their board state, consider a bluff).
Many people love to exaggerate, but if twin is banned (and mind you I don't actually play the deck), I'll just swap over to legacy while things 'settle'. I just finished ANT, so I'm excited anyway.
LSV said that it is official.

On mtgsalvation people don't want to discuss ideas, so I give people something else to discuss: my controversial opinions.
This is insane. I'm not arguing that Twin held a high percentage of the meta, but it was not oppressive to play against and it was a big part of holding Tron and Affinity in check. Tron becomes absurdly good right now, this is such a stupid thing to have done from a format health perspective.
I just don't like that ancient stirrings didn't get hit whatsoever when they knew to hit twin. Like do they want eldrazi/affinity/burn to be the only tier 1 decks? Maybe eldrazi midrange helps, idk how to feel.

For as many players that are angry about this I'm seeing just as many if not more that are completely ecstatic. This WILL cause some people to leave the format, but maybe it brings in many more as well. There is a LOT of salt left in Twin's wake.
But like why buy into Tron if it will get banned for the sake of competitive diversity??? It feels like no deck that is consistently competitive is a safe investment.

Everyone has been Twinned to death at least once. Not surprising. And if Wizards wanted a shaken format, they just put it in a blender and hit puree. Not sure what will be poured out, but it will be interesting.

You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
Not sure why people are at all surprised by this ban, I basically predicted it months ago in this thread by citing the POD ban. Pod was banned for the crime of being number 1 plain and simple, twin was number 1, it is now banned. When the Modern pro-tour comes around, wizards does what it can to spice up the format, to do so, it isn't going to ban out some random Tier 2 deck, its going to go to the very top dog and chop it's head off, because why wouldn't they?
I thought people learned their lesson after the POD banning that its simply stupid to ever be playing the best deck in the format, its just going to be banned inevitably for being number 1.
Going forward, I predict with twin no longer in the format more people will start to see just how strong tron is, imo tron is already a very bannable deck for how it plays and how most decks simply have nothing that can go up against it in any sort of consistent manner, after oath is released and they get kozilek's return its just going to compound this problem.
MY PERSONAL OPINION: Sell out of tron while you can, the prices are stupidly high, especially for a deck that will be the center of attention going forward which is never what you want for your deck in modern, you want to be playing a deck thats more under the radar so to speak. That is all
But like why buy into Tron if it will get banned for the sake of competitive diversity??? It feels like no deck that is consistently competitive is a safe investment.
Maybe wizard's plan is to make us all play tier 3 decks. I'm also salty as a faeries player because twin was the freest match up for us.

Thank you Splinter Twin. You have been a valuable partner and an amazing adversary.
I wonder if ktkenshinx will quit Modern after this. I think he mentionned such a ban as his breaking point. (Please don't quit!)
With what is going to happen going forward it's much too interesting to quit now! Modern is already the wild west and we just shot the sheriff in the head.

Decks I have in my bag of tricks- Needless to say, someone who wants to play will probably have a deck UB/x Faeries UR Storm XURWB Affinity G Elves UW control
Even though I lose one of my archetypes, I still have UWr Midrange/Control to fall back on, both of which slightly benefit from the ban of twin, whether it be through residual increases in aggro decks (UR Delver, Burn, Infect, Affinity) or the fact that Geist will resolve more often on T3 with Twin out of the format (darn you Remand!).
I do worry that Tron and Bx Eldrazi will rise in usage, both of which are a pain to play against but are hate-able (Blood Moon, land destruction, search hate, Stony Silence, etc etc etc).

Still displeased that nothing got unbanned. Guess we are going to see a ripple effect now, good or bad.
You've just gotta go Kiki Jiki.
