Because even if the deck is bad, that doesn't mean that Eggs players will get the memo. Look at Legacy - people show up with terrible decks all the time.
It's just childish to me. When you show up to a high level tournament you should be well aware of all the possible problems that can arise. And yes, In Legacy that one ******* playing Landstill in 2013 is going to hold the tournament up , but the same can be said for someone just blatantly stalling the game.
When you play competitive MTG you should KNOW this. I feel like this is more of a PR move than an actual balance move and a ban list dictated on PR, political bull is horrifying.

Mhjames: mtgsalvation: I DON'T SEE HOW THIS CARD IS GOOD. I KNOW PATRICK CHAPIN USED IT AND WENT 8-0, BUT THAT WAS A SMALL TOURNAMENT. THE CARD IS TOO SLOW. YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE THE OPPONENT HAS A SPELL IN THE GRAVEYARD
Can't the deck still be operational on faith's reward?
I don't know the deck very well so sorry if this is a dumb question
I'm not entirely certain. The deck was barely operational back when we were using Noxious Revival instead of Faith's Reward, but the lack of card draw that Faith's Reward's tax will inflict just might be critical, especially since 1 Lotus Bloom can't pay for Faith's Reward alone (you'll also need a fetchland or Ghost Quarter).

Why do the good players win at such a high rate?
Because a large % of the other players are not good.
Im very disappointed it was Sunrise and not Reward that got the axe, but i can live with it.
As for my fellow combo players, we still have options. Infect, Scapeshift, Griselbrand Reanimator (yay turn 2 kills!), Twin are all still very viable, and Storm has finally made a comeback. Seriously, if you havent tried the new storm deck thats in the dailys, go play it. its crazy fun
More bans like this will make many people quit this format honestly, its depressing
The only people that would quit are the combo players and those people I honestly dont want in the format. If you want non interactive combos go play Legacy. Let modern be a diverse meta combo light meta. Only keep combos that people can interact with.
I'm just sad that out of all of the non-creature based combo decks only scapeshift survives. We no longer have and engine deck or an all spells deck in the format.
But I guess in the grand scheme of things, the meta is pretty good right now and this list will really change nothing.

Dragon's Maze will also give us new combo decks with Combo Elves and Breaking//Entering Cascade Reanimator. I'm currently finding Breaking//Entering fun, balanced, and more consistent than Goryo's Vengeance Reanimator (although one little inconsistency means it flops to Combo Elves or even Soul Sisters pre-board).
I am very disappointed that Wizards was so conservative and kept poor GGT on the list, but I am also quite impressed that they decided to just ban Second Sunrise. Something from Eggs had to go, and it has nothing to do with Eggs being broken or fast. But it has everything to do with it taking too long in tournaments. Wizards justified their ban with exactly that explanation.
A Sunrise ban keeps the deck around in some form while not risking tournament rounds going too long. All in all a victory for Modern.

Im looking forward to the breaking//entering deck, but im still not sold on the new glimpse in elves. Elves is already a t3/t4 deck without it, adding a second color for a spell you wont be able to cast in many games doesnt seem like its going to make it any better
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.

Yay my favorite format just got even better.

Thank you, WOTC, for siding with the players who would rather be involved in the game than watch someone else play it.
I like how both Ancestral Vision and Bitterblossom sold out yet again on SCG. People obviously anticipated that things would be different and that those cards would finally be unbanned, and it turns out those people are left holding the bag.
That aside, I expect Bitterblossom to be unbanned down the line eventually. Wizards continues to churn out hate for Faeries with each passing set, so one would expect that R&D will eventually be comfortable with letting Faeries get Bitterblossom.

YEAH SCREW THOSE GUYS WHO LIKE PLAYING THE GAME DIFFERENTLY THAN ME.
What I want to be banned/unbanned:
-unban either sensei's Divining top or Jace, the Mind Sculptor
-unban wild nacatl
-unban either seething song or Preordain
What everyone else wants banned/unbanned:
-ban something from eggs
-unban Jace, the mind sculptor or something else that makes control better
What will probably get banned/unbanned:
-ban something from eggs (probably lotus bloom)
Dang, almost called it exactly.
Seriously? Is this how modern works? Everyone starts playing a deck, people get upset at it, suddenly it has a huge target on its back, and then wizards nerfs it. Why not instead, people just play the deck that beats whatever deck is running the format at the moment? That's what legacy players have been doing for years, and they haven't changed its banlist much at all.
Yet again, not a single thing taken off the ban list. Boo.
Everyone is entitled to his/her own playstyle, but no one should be empowered to force anyone else to watch 'em play solitaire for who knows how long. Combo can be fine as long as it doesn't waste copious amounts of someone else's time.
Scapeshift is a very interactive combo deck. I don't know how you can say it isn't. They HAVE to answer played cards or they lose. That's pretty interactive unlike eggs which just went "okay is it my turn yet ? "
No, man. Everyone is entitled to his/her own playstyle, but no one should be empowered to force anyone else to watch 'em play solitaire for who knows how long. Combo can be fine as long as it doesn't waste copious amounts of someone else's time.
Or you could just scoop...
Some people like non-interactive combo decks. They present many different problems to solve that you dont see in other types of decks, and for many of us figuring out how to find the optimal line of play vs certain hate is more thrilling than just flickering a geist with a Restoration Angel. They keep this format from becoming goodstuffmidrangeA.deck vs goodstuffmidrangeB.deck every round.

Yeah.
I play high tide in legacy. It's fun as hell to play with, but not fun to play against for the exact same reason. Why would they ban something that was fun to play with? If your opponent didn't have the means to stop you, who cares about them? They can always just concede.
Ah good point.
They should have banned something else IMO, like reshape or lotus bloom.

They should have banned faith's reward, which would have left the deck back to its pre-M13 levels.
Although, the KCI version will probably become the go to version if the deck still exists, and that version is much faster.
