There are a lot of good synergies and an actual beatdown/combo element that I really like about this deck, but it is not really powerful enough at this point to be a tier 1 or tier 2 deck. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could improve this?
Unfortunately, dread return is banned in modern. If it wasn't I would just go with a classical dredge looking deck instead of doing all this stuff with dredge vine, lol.
I actually started out running haakon, but found bridge to be faster. I started with him as a 4 of, and then eventually found I never wanted him, and ended up turning him into 1 dregscape zombie.
No burning inquiry because there are cards I want in my hand most games (like 1 gravecrawler or a cantrip), and no glimpse the unthinkable because I am opposed to using any spell that does not include draw in a dredge deck as a cantrip. Besides, I generally want my cantrips on turn 1 for the most part, so 1 cmc is preferable. Magus is tempting, but he doesn't do anything until turn 3, which I feel might be a little long. I think I like my cantrip spots better because they allow me to start dredging sooner.
i have been tinkering with this for a while and posted it in a previous thread in modern under different heading some months ago. here is most recent list.
it has the possibility of winning turn 3 with a god draw and fairly consistent on turn 4 with an alpha strike. although ive been questioning the bridges in the deck for more non conditional pieces to the deck. but for the moment it is really testing well for me and i know of nothing else that will work as well.
although this guy has a sick build

Ive been working on a somewhat similar strategy, but mine works a little differently for dumping stuff to the grave. Liliana of the Veil and Rotting Rats both benefit me while hurting my opponent. I am splashing blue for Sedraxis Specter.
to be honest, after this thread wasn't moved for a while I have been working on a different thread actually in the correct forum, which I mentioned that in an edit to the first post. But either way, I am quite happy so far with this list:
Bridge enable the return of gravecrawler, allows you to win even if they use a board clear, and just a good card in this deck. Also, a good trick is to use phantasmagorian to put it into the yard if you happen to have one in your hand after attackers/blockers have been declared.
It still seems really bad. It does nothing in play and you have to lose creatures to activate it. Even then, it can be neutralized by any creature dying on your opponents end (say Sakura-Tribe Elder). I would rather see Haakon, Stromgald Scourge for reanimating Gravecrawler.
Actually, for reanimating Gravecrawler, Skaab Ruinator is without parallel. Its body kicks butt and it can be cast from your hand or the graveyard. In a Zombie Infestation build, I initially thought ZI would be enough Zombies to get Gravecrawlers going--it wasn't. I stuck in a Ruinator and haven't regretted it since.
yeah, Skaab Ruinator is good, but I wouldn't want more than 1 of him. I dislike having to destroy the things that make my deck work in order to play a spell. So I definitely support a 1 of ruinator, but I wouldn't use any more.
Haakon, Stromgald Scourge and nameless inversion was how I started. It is way to slow, and thats it. Sorry but it just doesn't work as well as dregscape zombie/shambling remains/skaab ruinator.
What are you using gravecrawlers for? Are they just a recurring creature? In my list they are pretty much just for vengevine, but your list doesn't seem to have that.
