Mid range is arguably my favorite type of deck to play but I have trouble finding a deck to commit to for modern. I currently have a goyfless/bobless/thoughtseizeless version of junk and it's okay, but I am just not satisfied with it. What other types of midrange decks are fun to play? Note that I am also on a budget and would like to use no more than 100-200$ right now and will try to use cards in my collection. I feel that my priority now is price<fun<viability but they are all factors.
I just built Martyr Proc for around $100, or less. The only thing that really ran up the cost is 4 Arid Mesa and that's about it.
It's a really fun deck. Full of control, aggro, comebacks, surprises, lifegain. It's just so fun to shoot up 33-45 life in one turn and swing for the win.
thanks for the replies. what is this martyr proc deck? i am not familiar with it.
ah yes. i was thinking about bant for a long time but in the end i did do it just because of the price. vendilion cliques are ~30$ and noble hierarchs are around 15 at least. yikes. i did like it more than junk but i felt budget junk was cheaper. is there a budget version of bant available?
Sadly midrange decks are almost always very expensive, because they are mostly a buch of good stuff thrown together, and good stuff is expensive. An exception to this might be tribal decks, wich abuse synergy between cards rather than just powerful cards, so they are usually less expensive, I find merfolks reasonably fun to play with. Another option is to play a budget version of a typical midrange deck, it might work out well, but you won't be as competitive as you would be if you played the more expensive options like Tarmogoyf, Dark Confidant and the such.
Maryt-Proc is a white based control deck that abuses the synergy or "combo" between Martyr of Sands and Proclamation of Rebirth, while playing a ton of white cards so you can gain like ~15 life, or more, per turn. It's a nice deck, but not midrange, neither fun to play IMO lol.
Bant midrange might be the only true midrange deck that is vaible. We find some version of true midrange jund(sort of like what you mentioned) that works, but I bet it will involve goyf since he is as big as a typical 4-5 drop half the time.
Is sarkan, the mad good enough for modern? Jund needs more card advantage, and a higher curve does not support bob.

Strawberry Crisis is a pretty fun midrange-combo deck. Sometimes you go for the combo win with wild pair, other times you just grind them out with mana advantage and creature quality advantage.
The deck is also very budget once you get past the shocklands and 4 fetches.
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

yea i noticed midrange was way more expensive than other decks. why is that? i don't see it performing overly well compared to other decks. and what is strawberry crisis? sorry i don't know many decks.

Midrange is expensive because it uses many of the best cards throughout the format. Clique is a good card used in a lot of decks, so it is expensive. Same with Goyf. The trend is similar for basically all the cards.
Some decks only use a few expensive cards because they use more synergy/deck-specific staples. This is not true for Junk or any midrange really.
This lol. Midrange is a fickle beast full of the finest furs.
Ok mostly I'm bored but like I might have mentioned bant middy seems pretty sweet. There was one in a daily I think for yesterday.(12/22)
You gotta bring a lot of coin to play it though.

On the plus side, if you do sink money in to it, you end up with a lot of the modern staples.
One of my favorite mid-range cards that I have wanted to use in Moderns is Loxodon Hierarch, but I have not gotten around to looking at midrange potential. I tend to like to play hybrid decks like midrange stompy/control, but they are not always viable.

Naya also has a decent midrange game as well, essentially topping out at Bloodbraid, Ajani V, and sometimes gideon or baneslayer angel.
Bant gives you countermagic, while naya gives you more removal and a land destruction package. Both routes are effective against control. Bant usually has a better game against combo, while naya fares better against aggro, but the card pool is large enough for either archetype to focus hate on certain matchups.
