If there is *Adopt Me*, I am looking for volunteers to adopt these primers. The primer either needs to be either written or re-written. Please PM me which one primer you want to adopt. Please be knowledgeable of the deck you are writing about, and please be willing to make updates as needed. One of the reasons the staff doesn't try to keep these primers up to date is because we don't play every deck and may not know the best way to make it function.
If I put *Adopt Me* next to a primer you wrote, you can adopt your own primer, but please keep it up to date
If you see *Needs Updating* check the Forum Rules to see what you might be missing. PM me if you have any questions. Some primers need more updates than others.
If you no longer want to own your primer, or would like someone else to adopt it, PM me and let me know.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.

Well... theres always delver in modern as well... america is currently doing pretty good. I'd say if you like bolt and you like combo in r/u try out unstorm, which uses noxtious revival to bring back bolt, and pyromaster's ascension to bolt your opponent about 15 times in the face.
Favorite Playstyle: Midrange, aggro, and control are all fine. Don't want to play combo.
How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament, MTGO, PTQ/GP): Would like to stay competitive. Planning on attending modern GPs.
Favorite Cards/Colors: No preference here.
Budget: Nothing outrageous (under $500).
Staples Owned: Full set of goyfs, bobs, zendikar fetches, thoughtseizes. A couple vendilion cliques. Full set of paths, hierarchs, lotus cobras, obstinate baloths, vengevines, life from the loam, goblin guides. All the legendary eldrazi. Set of aether vial, only sword of body and mind. Only a couple of the shocklands, full set of all the scars lands and manlands, full set of mutavaults.

Would be willing to purchase more shocklands.
I say ya got most of jund already, and shock lands arent super needed for it. go with that. Midrange, aggro, and still gives you a control element with discard.
Hi, I have a Grand Prix Trial coming up in about 2 weeks, and I'm wondering which of my decks I should play. My choices are Burn and UWR Delver. Unforunately, I have absolutely no idea what the Meta is around here which is the main reason why I'm posting here. I have played with both of the decks quite a bit online and I'm equally comfortable playing both of them. Which one do you guys think I would have the best shot at winning with?
Current Decks:

Modern:

Burn is faster and Isochron Delver (Assuming this is WUR Delver) is more mid-range if you think there will be a heavy combo presence I would go with Delver
Favorite Playstyle (Aggro, Midrange, Control(just to some extend, i love the no-tezz list) i dont like all in Decks, and i love Decks who can adapt to the situation, and win in different ways, not just always tapping the same dude to the right side.
How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament,PTQ(maybe)
Favorite Cards/Colors: i love white, but i´m open to anything
Budget:200+
Staples Owned: A classic Soul sisters Deck. Mana Leak, Jace Beleren, goblin guide, bolts, tidehollow sculler, lightning helix, ancient grudge, B/R+G/R scars, Ghost Quarter, W/R Shock, W/B shock
@RPG Gamer I personally play Soul Sisters so far, a kinda Budget Deck and a Friend plays Burn, its always a massaker if he plays against me. As i recal, was soul sisters second place at the last big thing so, its very possible that you could fight it right? Just pick the Deck with the best match ups against a bigger variation of Decks. If your unsure of the meta.
Boros sounds right up your alley, you already have the Helix, Paths, and Bolts, just need Steppe Lynx (Zendikar Common), Plated Geopede (Zendikar Common), 4 Goblin Guides (Zendikar Rare), W or R fetches and Sacred Foundries, some lists run Ajani Vengeant as well
Martyr Proc placed second at the last Modern GP (there is a distinct difference between the 2)

Modern:
Paper: WUR Waffle Control, RG and U Tron
MTGO: U Tron, BRG Living End, B Infect
Testing Modern on MTGO and helping to craft decks on a Budget I stream!
Favorite Playstyle (Aggro, Midrange, Control, Combo: Control or Tempo strategies. I don't want to play a "brainless" aggro deck such as zoo or affinity.
How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament, MTGO, PTQ/GP): Just for fun and maybe the occasional small local tournament)
Favorite Cards/Colors: Cards that enable a lot of options that give you a "toolbox" feel examples: birthing pod, trinket/treasure mage, gifts ungiven etc.
Budget: 100-200 for now and slowly adding as time goes.
Staples Owned: Got all fetches and some cards from my current boros deck (goblin guides, grim lavamancer, path to exile, wrath of god, uw/ub manlands). Other than that I have no shocklands or other dual lands or anything else really.
My goal is to slowly get more and more staples and expanding my deck choice options using what I got as base and adding money to it over time. What decks/cards should I choose to get into or invest in that results in decent budget decks that are easily expandable/improvable/flexible over time if such a thing is possible?
If you have your fetches and some control cards I would look at one of the WUR decks like Patriot Delver or WUR Isochron Control.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
Favorite Playstyle (Aggro, Midrange, Control, Combo): Either Midrange or Combo.
How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament, MTGO, PTQ/GP): Local Tournament mostly.
Favorite Cards/Colors: Pyromancer's Ascension, Ghave Guru of Spores (Not in Modern), Lightning Helix, Ajani Vengeant, Ajani 3.0, Myr Galvanizer. Favorite color: Mostly white and green, but some color combinations beat those. I also like some toolbox decks, like mayael EDH and Fauna Shaman when it was in standard.
Budget: No goyfs. That's really it. Everything else I should have / can afford
Staples Owned: I have access to most of the lands.
I'm looking to branch out into another deck, so I figured I would give this a try.
Favorite Playstyle: I'd like to give Control or Midrange a shot (already playing RB Aggro and RG Tron)
How Competitive: Local Tournaments
Favorite Cards/Colors: Pyromancer Ascension, anything with Scry, Instants/Card Draw
Budget: Initially, likely in the $200 range
Staples Owned: Inquisition, Goblin Guide, Lightning Bolt, Volcanic Fallout, Through the Breach, Ulamog, Emrakul, Relic of Progenitus, Torpor Orb, Karn, Tron Lands, Blackcleave Cliffs, Grove of the Burnwillows, Verdant Catacombs
I have considered both Storm and Second Sunrise, but I'm not sure if I want two combo decks (considering RG Tron).
So I randomly qualified for the PT Seattle and was wondering what people's first thoughts for a good deck to play would be. Obviously I'll be testing myself and have a few opinions of my own but more ideas can't hurt.
(btw, I've never played modern before.)
Favorite Playstyle (Aggro, Midrange, Control, Combo): Decks with lots of options
How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament, MTGO, PTQ/GP): PT
Favorite Cards/Colors: Don't really mind so long as there are options
Budget: anything
Staples Owned: can get pretty much anything

I'd recommend checking out the U/x control subforum in the established section of the modern forum; you could probably make a decent control deck for $200 and it seems to fit with you liking instants / card draw.

Without much information to go off of here, besides you wanting a lot of options, I'd recommend a birthing pod deck. In developing there is a thread for naya pod, and in established there is a subforum for melira combo, another form of pod.
Favorite Playstyle (Aggro, Midrange, Control, Combo): Generally aggro, though not a fan of the all in approach. Open to a decent midrange or control deck, though I don't like the blue style of control.
How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament, MTGO, PTQ/GP): I want to win. But doesn't need to be top of the line.
Favorite Cards/Colors: Good with playing anything, except heavy blue.
Budget: Shouldn't be an issue.
Staples Owned: No idea.
Looking for a deck that's aggressive without losing late game power. Alternatively, a deck that locks an opponent could be fun.

Mono white control or mono black control are stickied threads in the deck creation subforum that might be worth looking into.
Also, aside from "all-in" aggro like affinity, decks like jund and zoo in the established section are pretty good. Pretty expensive, though, considering goyf. Jund is more aggro/midrange, actually.
There are also plenty of midrange decks you could play, such as pod varients, death and taxes, and bant.
Favorite playstyle: Tempo or control
How competitive: PTQ
Favorite cards/colors: Bant/ UW, ok with everything but mono colored strategies other than mono U, and anything with red. Black is ok if it involves lingering souls.
Budget: $250
Staples owned: Playsets of most playable uncommons, will update with more info on rares etc. when I get back from Europe and can go through my binder.
Looking for something like Fae or Caw blade, but want to play something more skill intensive. MWC was my deck most recently but the playstyle was just: drop early prison, play porphyry nodes or another control element depending on matchup, win. Kinda boring if you ask me. It was fun, so a UW faerie brew with MWC elements could work if I could find a list or get some critique on my current one.
I have a few favorite decks already, but I'd be curious what would be recommended for me. Maybe it'll be something that I haven't thought of trying out!
Favorite playstyle: Tempo is probably my favorite. I also like some midrange and aggro decks, but with midrange I like to play slightly more lean builds, and with aggro I like to run more toolbox cards and things that give me access to modes outside of just attacking/burning things. I appreciate speed, efficiency, and having many lines of play available to me. Recursion makes me happy. I've definitely liked some control decks, but control is more hit or miss with me. The only decks I really dislike are decks that aren't very interactive. I'll play one if I feel like it's the best move, but I'd much rather pilot something that makes me think and plays out a bit differently each time.
How competitive: PTQ/GP
Favorite cards/colors: U/R, RUG, B/x, U/W or Bant, probably. I'm open to anything, though.
Budget: No particular budget, just curious to see what's recommended. I'll be testing with friends with proxies or on Cockatrice before I jump in and buy/trade for the cards I don't have yet, so I'm open to whatever.
Staples owned: I have all the shocks/fetches and a good amount of the relatively more affordable staples (stuff under $20). I don't have Bob, Goyf, Thought Seize, or Mutavault. Might be able to borrow them, though.
Favorite Playstyle (Aggro, Midrange, Control, Combo): I play a lot of aggro, but midrange is something I love, and combo is something I've been meaning to try. Control bores me.
How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament, MTGO, PTQ/GP): Fun, and local tournaments if possible
Favorite Cards/Colors: I have no preferences here
Budget: As budget as possible please.
Staples Owned: None.
Playstyle: control. If I can be convinced, I will play somethig else, but I vastly prefer control. If not control, I like birthing pod, but not one that focuses on combo (it can have combo, but I do not want that to be the centerpiece of the deck.)
Competitive: competitive as my budget will allow.
Cards/colors: I like blue more than anything else.
Budget: under 150, please
Staples owned: surgical extraction, a couple 50 cent staples
I'm a proud member of the Online Campaign for Real English. If you believe in capital letters, correct spelling, and good sentence structure, then copy this into your signature.
If that's your "casual," what on earth is required for "formal," a butler in livery shuffling the decks whilst a pianist plays Brahms in front of a tapestry?
Favorite Playstyle: Anything that is interactive.
How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament, MTGO, PTQ/GP): PTQ/GP in December.
Favorite Cards/Colors: Simic and Junk and BUG. Favourite card is Lorescale Coatl but its a weak 3 drop for modern.
Budget: Anything without bob/goyf.
Staples Owned: (Playsets of the following )Vengevines, Noble Hierarch, Shocklands, Fetches, KotR, Fauna Shaman, Bloodbraid Elf, Rancor, Leyline of Sanctity, Qasali Pridemage, Kataki, Linvala, Liliana, Maelstrom Pulse, Spellskite, Chalice of the Void, and many more. Those are just the first that come to mind.
EDIT: Decided to play Master Affinity so no need to assess what i should play anymore.
Favorite Playstyle (Aggro, Midrange, Control, Combo): Aggro/Midrange. Not really a combo or control player
How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament, MTGO, PTQ/GP): Local tourny, maybe mtgo, ptq/gp in the area
Favorite Cards/Colors: Pretty open, been finding RUG the most fun recently. White is my least favorite.
Budget: Nothing insane
Staples Owned: Surgicals, duress, liliana, snap, delver, pod, bloodbraid, inkmoth, some scars lands.
Jund seems like something I'd enjoy playing, but worried about having to get goyfs/bobs.

I'd guess that you would enjoy Tezz Affinity lists and Tooth and Nail lists. Check both of those out. If there are any others you can trade with in the area, the parts should not be hard to come by.
Budget: ~$250 + trading, things that can be upgraded later (like mana-bases)
Colors: Doesn't really matter, but his favorite is green
Play style: Johnny + Timmy, no "pure control," no "un-fun"/non-interactive combos
Competition level: Mostly "casual," Some local tournaments, something that can be upgraded if we go to a PTQ/GP
Now the tricky bit:
He loves to play multiplayer, so it can't suck in big group games. We're talking run-what-ya-brung kitchen table stuff with no banned list. For reference, turn 3 or 4 is when a game's critical turn is, and the power level is between Modern and Legacy. My buddy wants to try a 'real format' occasionally to test his mettle, but he won't buy into standard because the cards are not necessarily good investments and he doesn't want to binder grind to stay current. He doesn't want to play every Friday, and he wants something playable in his casual group if he decides tournaments aren't or him. I think Modern fits the bill best because it matches the pace of what he's used to, is eternal, and is more manageable on a (relatively) modest budget than Legacy.
I was thinking something like a Tron variant, elves, or a Pod variant would fit his style. I am looking for a second opinion from people who know the format better than myself and could recommend specific variants, may favor a similar play style to him (I'm more tempo-controlly kind of guy), or may have been in a similar situation (as I despise multiplayer and thus can't vouch).

Hive Mind. It's as easy beating one person as it is beating 100.
Just started playing Magic again after a 5 year hiatus, currently play Legacy but looking to build a Modern deck as well.
Favorite Playstyle (Aggro, Midrange, Control, Combo): I'd probably say Tempo, I play RUG Delver in Legacy and really like that deck.
How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament, MTGO, PTQ/GP): Local Tornaments, but would like it to still be competitive enough to take to a PTQ
Favorite Cards/Colors: Favorite color is blue, I really like Gifts Ungiven, but have never played it in a deck.
Budget: $250 plus I can probably trade for some stuff.
Staples Owned: 4x Dark Confidant, In the process of getting 4x Tarmogoyf, have all 40 Shocklands, most of the Painlands (I think I'm missing 2 U/B ones and 1 U/G one), All the Tron Pieces, Remands, Wrath of Gods, 4x Aether Vial 4x Arcbound Ravager, 4x Chalice of the Void, most cards from the Ravnica and Timespiral Blocks
Decks I have been looking at: Death and Taxes, UW Tron and other Tron Varients, Affinity, Jund and a few Gifts decks

Legacy:
:symg::symw::symr::symb: Maverick
Death and Taxes
Merfolk
Show and Tell
Burn
Burn is faster and Isochron Delver (Assuming this is WUR Delver) is more mid-range if you think there will be a heavy combo presence I would go with Delver
Boros sounds right up your alley, you already have the Helix, Paths, and Bolts, just need Steppe Lynx (Zendikar Common), Plated Geopede (Zendikar Common), 4 Goblin Guides (Zendikar Rare), W or R fetches and Sacred Foundries, some lists run Ajani Vengeant as well
Martyr Proc placed second at the last Modern GP (there is a distinct difference between the 2)
Paper: WUR Waffle Control, RG and U Tron
MTGO: U Tron, BRG Living End, B Infect
Testing Modern on MTGO and helping to craft decks on a Budget

Hermit Druid Combo:
If you have your fetches and some control cards I would look at one of the WUR decks like Patriot Delver or WUR Isochron Control.
Ghave, the Guru of Spores
Mayael the Anima
Isamaru, Hound of Konda

All of these you can definitely win with.

How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament, MTGO, PTQ/GP): Fun, and local tournaments if possible
Favorite Cards/Colors: I have no preferences here
Budget: As budget as possible please.
Staples Owned: None.
Competitive: competitive as my budget will allow.
Cards/colors: I like blue more than anything else.
Budget: under 150, please
Staples owned: surgical extraction, a couple 50 cent staples

I hate the reserved list.
Mythic rares are fine.
Thoughts?
Speculate less. Test more.
No-Mutavault Merfolk would be a place to start. Aggro Control?
Once u start getting good with that deck, slowly buy Mutavaults?
Thanks Hero's of the Plane

Hive Mind. It's as easy beating one person as it is beating 100.
Thanks
