Wonderful showing for The Rock in Philly yesterday. I think he would have taken the whole thing down if he had just sacrificed the zombie to Kalitas in game 2 and swung for 7 to put him out of double-bolt range. Your thoughts?

Where can we watch? I don't see it in Google or Twitch search results.

Any thoughts on this particular list? Seems like the same player has seen success with a jund variant as well. Spawn of Mayhem is certainly interesting

Should probably be in the Abzan thread as it's an Abzan Traverse deck. Certainly interesting I'll admit, but not worth cutting Kalitas for right now.
I can't for the life of me win against Phoenix. My deck currently strongly resembles the scg philly deck, but I just can't figure out how to beat these phoenix decks. They have so much dig that they just pivot around grave hate, and there's no way to fight them toe-to-toe without it. How the hell are you supposed to win? What is the game plan in this matchup?

Hey Tempest !
I think UR Phoenix is a favorable match-up and mono red phoenix is probably 50/50 (i am currently 6-2 with jund and 11-6 with rock against them)
I think these matchs are very hard to play during the first 4 turns because both decks try to take an advantage.
I guess a fine heuristic is stay focus on their threats and try to deploy yours at the best moment and an other one can be count them as a storm/combo deck with enabler and payoff.
If you want a side board plan with Rock (you can find my list on the previous page) :
+1 duress, +2 nihil spellbomb, +2 surgical extraction
-1 kalitas, -1 liliana the last hope, -2 collective brutality, -1 field of ruin
I am not sure at all about that plan and i have the feeling it's the same thing in general, some people board out discard keep brutality or think kalitas is very great (i disagree with that, i think kalitas is only good when you have time to setup as mirror or company deck or when he's good with hellbent as against burn, humans or dredge)
Is the matchup basically unwinnable without surgical? I ask because I’ve been trying to make do with spellbombs, damping sphere, and Cage (extraction’s price tag is ridiculous nowadays), but I can’t tell if the artifacts are subpar or I’ve simply been getting unlucky.
I took a few months hiatus from magic so my knowledge of the Phoenix matchup is basically null.

Well, Extirpate is an option. It might even be better against UR Phoenix, but don't take my word for it, I don't really know what they run.

Surgical quite is critical, and really makes this match-up very winnable, especially considering the nature of our deck is to keep them at bay with spot removal. If we can old them off for long enough to draw a Surgical, we're in a really good place.
I actually feel confidant against Izzet Phoenix with 2x Surgical, 2x Spellbomb, and 1x Cage, also Damping Sphere and a couple of Collective Brutalities coming off the sideboard.
Speaking of how important Surgical is, just the other day I lost a game 2 that was looking to be a close win, when my opponent top-decked three Phoenixes in four turns eugh...
@Tempest753 :
When i started to play against phoenix, i board in only 1 surgical against phoenix on the play and let the other one in SB, i was not very impressed by surgical. And to be honest it's not impressive even now, i have just the feeling the only way for phoenix to easy win the game is turbo phoenix you so we have to respect that.
I think damping sphere is bad but i am not sure at 100%, nihil spellbomb is better than surgical here for me (surgical is only better against the double phoenix t2 otp), when you are in midgame the setup discard+ooze win against arclight phoenix and spellbomb too (i mean you have time to play it and do other things).
I think have a bunch of 1-cmc discard spells is a good way too to slow down turbo phoenix.
@pzbw7z : good point ! I forgot that card, maybe i will sell my mtgo surgical for that because price x).
hello i just recently finish building this deck.. and god my local meta is infested with tron decks .. im planning to add lost legacy on my sideboard or do a sultai version just to run unmored ego.. any suggestions?

Splashing a color for Unmoored Ego might be the thing to do but it's a big step and requires a great deal more thought than I am going to put into it. Lost Legacy is about useless against Tron; it doesn't hit lands or artifacts.
If you are able to focus your build just to beat Tron, then there are other cards to consider, such as Damping Sphere, but if you really need to beat Tron, you might want to switch decks.

I have a new project running, which is to convert the primers to my new webpage: https://www.greatnessatanycost.com/
There you can find the Amulet Titan SB Guide!
Any way that you can make the site auto adjust to the size of your monitor? Currently right now it's unreadable on a 15" laptop.
You can set the zoom at 75% to read it if you are having a similar problem.
Nice ... bookmarked!
