Thank you for the list and link! I think this is where I'm going to start with a new build. Luckily I already have Stoneforge because of Legacy so I may have a new deck for Modern FNM next week!
No problem! The list I linked would be straight garbage now as a ton has come out since then, but wanted to at least give you some result. I don't want to clog up this thread but hopefully I'll see you over at the dead guy thread. I'm sure I will be posting a new list in the next few days.
with the existence of fatal push, assassins trophy, kolaghans command, spell snare, ceremonious rejection, and abrade i just really doubt SFM will make a huge impact. She will probably be the center of a couple of new decks but I dont see her making a new tier 1 deck or pushing an already existing deck into tier 1 status even E&T will most likely be shut down by Tron and Jund and IF she did it wont be anything oppressive or insane it will probably be grixis death shadow level of power.
EDIT: what are the possibilities of a mardu SFM through the breach or nahiri emrakul deck..?
To what extent can 1-mana cantrips like Crash Through keep Young Pyromancer or Bedlam Reveler variants afloat? Based on my experience with 2-mana filtering cantrips in Mardu Midrange, they can't substitute for 1-mana cantrips because I'd need them to find my 2nd land too often.
Despite looting got banned, I won't leave Mardu. I just really like all the cards
Therefore, I came up with a build which only requires a small investment and is still competitive.
I went for the Nahiri / Emrakul combination. The +2 from nahiri could give this deck the consistency in the late game. And Emrakul is the finisher Mardu never had ;-)
Therefore I went up 2 lands. And threw Blood moon in the sideboard.
I know Bedlam Reveler is a nonbo with Emrakul. But if I'm upticking Nahiri to discard Emrakul (to ult her next turn), it wouldn't have matter anyways.
But if Bedlam feels wrong, I can replace them with Seasoned Pyromancer (or even a Dreadhorde Arcanist).
I really regret the Looting bann, but wanted to share my thoughts. May it help mardu rebuild
Thats what im talking about man. I think mardu could use a nahiri or through the breach emrakul combo. It could be super effective and would give the deck new direction, life and competitive edge.

Mardu for sure still be competitive. The colours have the best removal suite of the format.
The death shadow variant of Mardu is great, and Unearth gives a great way for play recursive treats with low cost creatures.
The TTB version with emrakul is without a doubt a very interesting option. I will test it for sure
TTB and Nahiri seems pretty good, I think I would run Seasoned Pyromancer over Bedlam Reveler because of ease of cost and the potential to drop chump blockers the turn before Nahiri hits the board to buy time for the ultimate. The closing power Reveler brings isn't needed as much because Emmy can shut people out pretty hard, especially since the deck still runs a pile of burn spells to close out the last 3-5 life your opponent likely has afterward. I personally think I'm going to try to continue a more grindy game utilizing Stoneforge with something like this (now with a mana base!) Love to hear everyone's thoughts:
I have a couple of questions about SFM and the future of mardu.
the first is, how many SFM is too much? I feel that 4 is just wayy too many simply because how many times does one need to tutor? and how many artifacts are there to tutor for? What if you draw 1-2 artifacts and draw into your SFM later on? then it just become a durdly two drop that can flash in an equipment after the summoning sickness. I dont have any experience with SFM so I may have a noobish view but I am genuinely curious.
My second question is about smiting helix. I think it is possibly too clunky without a discard outlet. Part of its appeal is the cheap flashback. Running 3-4 sorcery speed 4 mana helix's with no reliable way to pitch them seems like over kill and a way to slow yourself down too much. I agree they are great value but simply too slow without a good way to pitch them away. So lists running smiting helix should also run at least 1 collective brutality in conjunction with the seasoned pyros at least in my opinion especially since the lists run lingering souls now too which is the number 1 pick for pitching away. It would probably be optimal with nahiri too since you can still get the cards value after pitching it to her. so the question is, is 3-4 optimal or is it too much?

I think that smiting helix is cluncly with or without Faithless Looting. I prefer a more solid suite of removal like Dreadbore or Path to Exile, even angrath’s rampage that if sfm becomes a thing, that card will be a good answer against it.
The only experience anyone has with Stoneforge Mystic is in old Standard and Extended or Legacy. I fall into the latter. In the Legacy decks, people generally run three equipments (Umezawa's Jitte, Sword of Fire and Ice, and Batterskull) with the possibility of another Sword in the board. That's why I'm only running three equipments overall. SFM can just find what I need when I need it. There is always the potential she'll fail to find or die before you can utilize her, but I've never seen her run without some form of disruption through discard or counterspell effects. Turn 1 discard to see what the opponent has can greatly inform when to cast and what to get with SFM. I feel three is correct for this list, playing a normal grindy game and slamming SFM into a way to close out the game seems decent. What you grab will depend on what you need at the time.
I'll have to retool Collective Brutality back into the list. You make good points on the lack of ways to discard it. I was debating between two or three; four seems like too many. Maybe it can replace Dreadbore?
i see. Hmm i am curious to see how she will perform.
I would probably run a 2/1 split of smiting helix and collective brutality. I think dreadbore will be essential with UW control and Jund topping the charts of the meta.

I really like this list. It's unfortunate that we had to take a hit/banning for the sins of degenerate decks but I still agree with looting getting banned. SFM seems really cool in our deck though
What problem solves the inclusion of sfm to this archetype? Sorry for the question but, i dont think that card fit good in this deck. Tron, Dredge, and all big mana decks still will be a problem. The midrange and control mu are very good, so this adition dont fit anything.
