I think kataki should definatelt be in against KCI. Its somewhat situational, but it can simply be a game winning card when opp has no KCI on the table. I can't see a reason to not have him.
I personally am in the camp of 1 Stony + 1 Kataki actually. kataki is less of a silverbullet than stony is, but kataki can be tutored. and with kci being very popular, I think an additional stony helps quite a bit.
i don't know why this deck is not widely played but the deck should be tier 1. every matchup is so winnable if you want it to. 4-0 on FNM this week and my matchups are Traditional Abzan, Jeskai, amulet titan, Affinity Scales. Affinity scales is a tough matchup. I only won because I race with lingering souls. they can even win with stony silence in play.
In currently saving up for 2x engineered explosives. What is a good substitute in the mean while?
Sold my Engineered explosives months ago... now I just use one crime // punishment in it's place. Still works decently to get rid of tokens from token decks, and enchantments from bogles, which is what I use EE for anyway.

woah this card is good. crime is a good top deck too.

It can also destroy Dryad Arbor if you don't pay the X in punishment. Some Bogles player are surprised by that.. they have to read the card and don't see "nonland" in the rules. ^___^
Yeah I used to play this card also at some point. Its technically an immediate EE which is a downside since you can't play it and pop it later.
Sometimes that downside is also an upsise because some people don't expect it coming. For example, the elves player would be more conservative in adding creatures to their board if they see an EE waiting to activate. The only thing I miss about EE is that EE is an artifact that helps make my goyf larger. Punishment also cannot blow up planeswalkers.

Given the fact that both cost the same at least mana amount wise (EE costs 2 to active and X to cast, and Punishment costs BGX where BG would be the analog cost for the activation of EE) you can do exactly do the same with EE. So I don't see an upside.
Ratchet Bomb is just as good as Engineered Explosives against tokens. That doesn't necessarily make it playable, but it isn't awful as a budget substitute for a two-color deck; three-colors is a bigger hurdle. It does have the ability to go that big and even bigger but it's not really practical to rely on that.
ive dropped 2 rhino for a moment because of all harden affinity, spirits, humans and bridge vine. added more sweepers like 2nd damnation and engineered explosives. ive put ghost quarter and shriekmaw in the main again. and I've added choke to fight uw control with gaddock teeg.
what do you guys think of windborn muse as pseudo searchable wrath/anti-swarm effect for our deck. seems like aggressive strategies are so taking over so much right now. we need a wrath effect that's searchable.
Languish does seem potentially very good against Humans in particular. I won a game with Damnation against Humans the other day; Languish would have made it much easier.
I see you went for the 4 IOK 2 seize split. It is generally better, I rather have 3/3 split though because seize hits cards that are more troublesome for us.
I haven't tested with it yet but at first glance, I'd say that it has the same effective cost as Reclamation Sage (it can come down one turn earlier but still require a grand total of 3 mana for blowing something), with a bigger body (2 toughness) and has Exalted. The downside is that it requires a white mana to cast.

well, Maelstrom Pulse is a "generic destroy" if you dont play 2 already
gaze of granite comes to mind. it would be same investment at 2cmc cost and more.
