Bolt is nice as an answer to both Thragtusk and a Karn that's had to minus. Sometimes you also have to Bolt -> Snap -> Bolt to push through damage after they start resolving Wurmcoil Engines. Based on the above sideboard, I would go:
-2 Fatal Push
-2 Dismember
-1 Snapcaster Mage
Mulliganing and deploying a threat is the most important thing in this matchup. I've played a lot of turn 2 Snapcasters just to have some kind of clock going while I dig and sit back on my countermagic.
Interesting, so you guys don't really elect to bring in the K Commands? What about in those slower matchups where it's just enough to blow up O-Stone or 1x Wurmcoil?
And yeah, as Defish says, Deprive is so crazy good. It's making zero sense not to play this in the sideboard.
I used to board in K-Command all the time, and over time have brought it in less and less. I think that you want 2 cards that can blow up artifacts, and Abrade is better than K-Command for this matchup because it can kill both halves of Thragtusk while also costing 1 less mana. Because you're not really stopping them from assembling Tron, the window of opportunity for cards like Abrade and K-Command is actually pretty narrow, which is why we lean more on countermagic in that matchup. And as a last point, non-creature spells are the easiest thing for us to deal with on the stack, so you just don't really need a ton of artifact destruction.
@Spsiegel987: What does your list look like? I'm asking it because I'm deciding about giving Grixis Shadow a try but not sure about the exact list I want to play since I basically haven't played it since BBE unban. I'm a bit out of midrange decks as I haven't played any of BGx decks recently either.
Deprive is a card I never considered but it seems like a synergistic counterspell for the deck. UU doesn't seem like it's asking too much either. Definitely more feasible than RR.
I agree. I was incredibly happy to see Grixis win it all. I don't think 0 serum visions is right, as that really lowers the consistency.
I feel as though 3 serums, 3 scours, 2 loots and 3 baubles has felt fantastic. It's explosive but can still dig with that set up.
Grixis is definitely beginning to skim the tier 1 status, if it's not already. Reflector mage is brutal on this deck, but this deck is far too powerful to ever be bad in modern until some serious power creep occurs.
On a different note, with Izzet Pheonix as prevalent as it currently is, I think now is a great time to be bringing 1-2 copies of Echoing Truth in the side - as multiple flying haste creatures make our life total dificult to manage.
Aside from that one matchup, truth is powerful against a lot of other strategies like hollow one and an answer to sticky on board locks (looking at you, Worship)
I've been on 4 Bauble, 4 Scour, and 2 Looting for a while now and I like how it's positioned. Playing a turn 2 Angler with disruption still feels like the best thing you can be doing against most of the field, and the decks where that isn't good enough (mostly Humans, Spirits, Hardened Scales, and Dredge to an extent) are the decks I've been devoting most of my sideboard slots to beating. Basically, game one I'm increasing the velocity of my deck in order to maximize my chances against the decks I haven't targeted with my board, and game two boarding in enough against those decks to give myself a fighters chance.

Man, those were tight games. I truthfully have not learned how to navigate the burn matchup very well with this deck unless it involves a gurmag and stub.
The deck seems like it has so much game against a lot. I'm bringing my 4c shadow to an IQ today but I'm going to spend more time with grixis afterwards since it looks like it's more favorable to play as.
Grixis Shadow looks like it's becoming VERY well positioned. I have been paying attention it trending up but Phoenix looks like it's pushed it over that hump. Phoenix being so brutal against those small creature decks seem like a good chance to play this deck.
Just watched a video of him and it's very helpful and interesting. Thanks for posting that.
After trying out a bunch of decks I have decided to stick with GDS so now it's all just a matter of really learning all there is. Targeting yourself with Mishra's Bauble and cracking a fetch if you don't like the card is a play that I didn't have on my radar for example.

There is a similar move if you have a Bauble, a non-fetchland and Scour, where you mill the card before the draw trigger resolves if you don't like the card but maybe that has already been apparent to you.
-2 Fatal Push
-2 Dismember
-1 Snapcaster Mage
+2 Abrade
+2 Disdainful Stroke (coughDeprivecough)
+1 Stubborn Denial

I've been jamming nothing but Grixis Shadow/4C Shadow. Really liking it over the fair midrange decks.
Some people don't run the 1x or 2x loots, but for the most part it looks like the hive mind has a consensus on Grixis' main 60.
I do know the mandatory side has
2x K Command
1x Abrade
1x Stubborn Denial
2x Counters of choice (Deprive, reject, stroke, etc)
3-4 grave hate
Since burn is horribly positioned along with CoCo decks, Collective Brutality isn't really a thing now.
How are you guys feeling about Grim Lavamancer in Shadow? Too slow? Not good unless on curve?
I tried playing Young Pyromancer instead of LTLH but I missed Lilly so much. Maybe if the meta gets more fair.
4x Polluted Delta
4x Bloodstained Mire
2x Scalding Tarn
2x Blood Crypt
2x Watery Grave
1x Steam Vents
1x Swamp
1x Island
Creature (15)
4x Death's Shadow
4x Gurmag Angler
3x Snapcaster Mage
4x Street Wraith
3x Mishra's Bauble
3x Thought Scour
3x Serum Visions
2x Faithless Looting
Spells (17)
2x Lightning Bolt
2x Fatal Push
2x Dismember
4x Thoughtseize
2x Inquisition of Kozilek
3x Stubborn Denial
2x Temur Battlerage
4x Leyline of the Void
2x Deprive
1x Stubborn Denial
2x Kolaghan's Command
1x Abrade
1x Anger of the Gods
1x Engineered Explosives
1x Grim Lavamancer
1x Liliana, the Last Hope
1x Fatal Push
If the meta was slower my sideboard would probably look very different. I wouldn't mind changing my sideboard, I'm not 100% sure on it all.
In addition to this, they ran a 1/1 split between dismember and terminate. (Also 2 Collective Brutality in the side)

1x Swamp
2x Watery Grave
4x Death's Shadow
4x Gurmag Angler
4x Snapcaster Mage
4x Street Wraith

What should be the changes to my list?
mishra's bauble? Engineered explosives?

We have the same exact list but it's very tempting to play 4 scours and 4 baubles

Exactly the type of thing I was looking for. Thanks!
