I'm going to play Todd Stevens list tonight, even though I kind of want to shut my brain off and play GB Tron, which I have relatively no experience with or know how to sideboard with.
Yeah multiples potentially seem bad, but with only 2 copies it doesnt seem that likely. We used to run 2 kalitas as well, guess it shouldnt be that bad.
I've tried it. Both with having 1 main 1 side and having 2 main. Prefer 1 main, mostly because drawing multiples of Hazoret is awkward but also because I like to have diverse 4-drop threats.
I personally see this article more personal biased from the author than opjective statements. I think from his analysis it would basically mean that Jund could compete better with all other decks, while not destroying other decks completely. I don't get why this should be a bad thing. I never really had the feeling people were completely annoying when playing against Jund when it was Tier 1. Who minds a fair deck being competitive? After all Grixis DS does similar things, which is the best fair deck other than a control deck atm, and I don't think people are complaining much about this either. It still the unfair things (Storm, Tron, Valakut) which annoy people from my experience. But maybe I am biased as well, so there is that.
I personally wouldnt mind a Tier 1 consisting of Storm, Tron, Affinity, Jund, Company and Grixis DS.
I think David sounds pretty whiny in that article. I also think his entire dataset is faulty and his control list wasn't close to optimal. Bloodbraid Elf is good, but it's not *that* good. I also question his assumptions about homogeneity resulting from a BBE unban. Shadow decks would still be just as good and Abzan would still have lingering souls and other sideboard options to offer.
A lot of combo players/small creature decks find Jund incredibly unfun to play against.
I don't think it's bad to have fair decks thrive.
Honestly, the meta would adjust. Death Shadow changed the entire scapeshift of modern and the meta adjusted. GDS is probably still the best deck in modern but it lost a lot of it's free wins. The deck has to work hard for its win, even though some openers are virtually unbeatable.
What happens to the archetypes if this card is introduced into the format?
- Aggro: Little to no effect.
- Midrange: Abzan no longer a viable option, Grixis Shadow will still exist, Jund Shadow may change to play this card, Jund Midrange will become a teir 1 strategy.
- Control: This is the only majorly effected archetype. The tempo plan will no longer be an option. Dedicated control will have to be played.
- Big Mana: Little to no effect.
- Combo: Little to no effect.
In their summary, I see nothing terribly wrong with this. I think there are plenty of viable strategies that can still beat our deck, even with the bloody elf. My only question to them would be "is Jund really that terrible of an experience to play against?". I've always loved playing with and against the deck. It's fundamentally fair, and fights the good fight. Maybe that's just me though, what do you guys think? What your experience playing against Jund?
I've only played the mirror match like 3 times so far so I can't really comment on the exact mirror. I love playing midrange mirrors though, be they against Abzan, Shadow variants or Jeskai Tempo. Only midrange match up I haven't liked was Bant Eldrazi.
I followed the series until he published the data, noted that the data wasn't actually statistically significant. I shut off when he continued to write that, although the data wasn't actually statistically significant, that BBE was far too strong anyway. The article series just reeks of bias. He refers [in his earlier articles] to his data as damning for BBE then when his data comes out as non statistically significant I was like: "WTF!?". I mean yeah, of course, BBE will help Jund versus Tron and Control - that's what it's good for but it's not going to make them favorable, just increase our odds of winning from 'terrible' to 'better than terrible'. I mean, it's not like BBE made Jund favorable back when it was legal - Tron was still our worst MU.
Yeah totally agree. If you look at BBE in a vacuum, its actually not THE answer for Tron where we all would say "This is what we want against Tron". Clockwise Rabblemaster is just way faster compared to the Elf. Its just a guaranteed 2-for-1, which, lets be honest, Lingering Souls also is.
I pretty much said that article series was worthless a while ago. They could unban Bloodbraid Elf, and I seriously doubt it's effect would be felt at all. Even against control decks. That said I still don't expect it to get unbanned because Modern is one format the DCI haven't managed to **** up, and I think they're holding onto that.

Ugh, that prediction scares me because it's true. They really destroyed standard, it'll take years back to gain the trust of their consumers.
They seemed to imply they were interested in an unban though, so I won't give in to your cynicism, even if it's understandably warranted.
His insistence on keeping Lightning Bolt as "reach" against other GBx decks seems suspicious. He also likes to keep in some number of discards spells against said decks, which every pilot chooses to do differently. I just don't understand leaving Fulminator Mage out. Then there are the lines of play, but maybe I'm wrong on what I'm thinking there. I just feel that he's trying to play Jund like an aggro deck in general.

It wasn't bad, but it was pretty annoying whenever I drew 2x in a game. It's also 2x cards I have to dedicate to emptying my hand to.
Give it a try, it wasn't for me, but maybe I could have tested it more.
Most likely 1 is the correct number though.
Rabblemaster honestly puts in a lot of work.
I don't find myself missing Huntmaster, Olivia or Kalitas.
If creature aggro was a thing again, Kalitas and Olivia would be worthwhile.
Also, on another note, how does everyone feel about this?

Watching him also. His lines and reasoning have only reinforced my belief in Lord Duke.
I have classes from 11am to 9pm. Could you guys fill me in on his playing?
