just went 3-1 with a mostly built BW list at the weekly modern tournament, made a few mistakes against twin and lost.
Played a one of liliana because I didn't have a a few cards yet and she felt good when I played her. I got her against grixis control and she took out a guy and a bolt which feels about the same as a strangler, but you never really feel bad seeing her.
Grixis control was an easy matchup and I won 2 round back to back in 2
Faries went to 3 because I got stuck at 3 land game 1
Twin I kept getting stuck on 3-4 land and getting shambling vents cryptic bounced, just didn't really know what I was doing and surgicald snap and splinter twin when I should have gone for bolt and still maybe the twin?
But all in all it felt really great, there was one affinity but didn't have to play him which was nice.
Whenever we do something, we need to know why we're doing it. That being said, I want to have a quick discussion on BW vs BR so that we know why we're sticking with white and what red offers.
Going into red shows payoff in cheap removal. Bolt and Terminate, as well as the standard red sweepers improve matchups against creature-based and aggressive decks. Against Tron and Scapeshift, having access to Crumble and Slaughter Games provide one card answers to our most problematic matchups.
White gives us access to unconditional removal of Path to Exile that also sets up one card in the exile to be processed. White also gives us Lingering Souls for numerous and recurring fliers. In the sideboard we have a lot more artifact/enchantment hate and burn answers, but our options against Tron, Scapeshift, and the likes are more limited. (But we do still have the slightly worse Memoricide)
A comment on Crumble to Dust. People talk about how this is the answer to tron, but it really isn't. This a turn 4 card, when we are on the play, but even then Karn comes out on turn 3. If we are on the play, that is two turns for Karn and one for ulamog. I am just saying that against a bad tron hand it might help, but chances are it doesn't matter.
I have played against tron with a turn 3 blood moon and I just got overwhelmed because they just dropped threat after threat. As my BGx friend says, it isn't the first Karn or Wurmcoil that gets you, it is the second.
I am on BW because I think it handles Tron better actually. Stony Silence hurts tron a lot because it slows them down. If they can't cantrip you can handle the first threat. White also gives Path which handles the Wurmcoil engines and Ulamog. Breaking Tron's land is hard to do and I don't think should be the main game plan. I would go with disruption and slowing their draws. I may prove to be wrong, but I felt quite hopeless when I played tron as BR, but feel like 30/70 or 40/60 when on BW.
Yeah I feel Cavern is much much better for us than crossroads. Maybe if a few more bonkers devoid cards are printed (doubtful) some odd deck will want it but I'm currently pretty sure we dont.
@Complex Pants: I fully agree w/ you about the Tron matchup and BW strength against it. I still think one of our best weapons against tron is the GQ+Surgical Extraction combo and W gives us better ways to stall and more time to find that combo.

Corrupted crossroads looks ok, but we don't have a crapload of devoid in this build. The card will most likely be better in standard builds that might end up beyond two colors and < >
The new white eldrazi looks good, probably a sideboard option right now. Yet again a card I see making more impact on the standard deck not as much for the modern. It's cool to blink a herder tho and get more scions!!!

Doesn't work. Blight herder triggers on cast, not ETB.
I like Slaughter Games against combos like Splinter Twin/Scapeshift because removing those cards will just break their legs and without taking a remand. I think that is very possible to splash 1 Blood Crypt or Sacred Foundry main deck to have it sideboard against those decks.
I love Kozilek's Return but I don't think It will see or at least will be played at full potential in any list people are playing right now since they are playing only cost 5-6 eldrazis (not counting Ulamog). I'm not saying this card is not good (it's very very good) but needs a proper deck build to use it's full potential.
I think Kozliek's return isn't better then the black one we are getting for the exact reason you state.. we aren't going to get the second trigger enough I feel (granted it makes casting Newlamog that much more devastating but I don't think it's necessary.

Hey guys, not to be presumptuous, but this is the BW thread. There is already lots of BR talk on the Bx thread. Maybe we should just assume that we're all sold on Orzhov? Just saying.
Here's to good draws and sharp thinking. Carry on.
Yup my bad, forgot most the new Eldrazi trigger on casting not ETB. Here's a quick question on the new guy. If you blink an opponent's land that was turned into a creature, when the land comes back it will be untapped right since it's not a creature anymore?
I'm curious how many people are playing Drown in Sorrow in the SB and if so how many. I'm looking at Flaying Tendrils but reading the updated primer (great job to all of you involved btw) made me realize that since I'm not using Drown why am I thinking FT is so much better? How good has it been for people and is it worth potentially wiping out your stranglers/souls/scions?

For those who haven't seen it, Matthew Dilks, who went 12-3 to a 10th place finish at the SCG Modern Open in Cincinnati this weekend with BW Eldrazi posted a decktech/tournament report on reddit. Worth a read.
This seems really solid. Excellent body with haste and trample. It's practically a guaranteed 2-for-1 and puts on a lot of pressure. Definitely at least a 2-of.
I think it's fantastic. he can easily be a 3 drop 5/5 trample haster. That can turn us into an aggressor in a heartbeat. Auto 2 for 1 is great. Also something to note. If they are top decking... they can't kill it with spot removal.

The splash color is a complete meta call imo.

cavern doesn't tap for color for lingering souls/discard/path though
