A friend helped me test against the UR version today since between us we had all the pieces to throw it together. It's definitely very fast and pretty rough but we actually are not dead against. We can match their go wide starts w/ souls and herder tokens and match their big guys w/ big guys of our own, and if we live long enough we go bigger. Who gets out TKS first seemed to be really important, and the games were always pretty swingy and luck/who drew what when dependent. Our discard is important as unlike the colorless version there aren't any chalices stopping us from doing it. If aggrodrazi becomes a bigger part of the metagame (seems likely) we will definitely have to alter our md/sb w/ more sweepers and other things as well. But the matchup is not an autolose.
I haven't had a chance to test against the fully colorless one but that one seems like it'll be harder for us than the UR version (which is not an easy match-up either)

Welp, I just bought 4x SSG, 4x Gemstone Caverns, and rounded out my Mimics to a playset because Eye for sure and Temple in all likelihood are going to get the ban hammer and I think I still want some ramp. (Side note: is "playlet" even a word? GD autocorrect.) I got 2 Chalices after Christmas for $16 each but I don't think I'll pick up any more until I see how all this shakes out.
I really like this deck and I wish the OGW cards hadn't broken it. But they will ban the manabase and not the spells unless WotC has completely gone off the rails.
This was a healthy and complex meta a month ago. Pisses me off that R&D didn't see this coming and head it off.

Yea, I really wish Thought-Knot Seer and Reality Smasher weren't printed. This deck is great for Modern without them...
It's got a colorless hate bear that anyone can side in against the deck. Painter servant going to be putting some work in against Eldrazi decks in the coming meta.

That comes down turn 2 on the play and you could be staring down mimics already. It helps, but doesn't win the game. The aggro decks care about it, but the BW cares a lot less. I am very happy to get to Midgame against a lot of decks.

I dont think its enough of a threat. 3 dismember MB and some list run 1 spatial contortion and 1 Warping Wail in SB. In addition to the slower 2 ratchet bomb MB and 1 in SB.
Sure, but if you're playing a blue deck you can keep in SOME counter magic to protect servant. Despite your counter magic being bad against their sets of caverns.

This is literally the exact description of a degenerate deck/meta.
"If there were only a single viable deck to play, tournaments would quickly stagnate as players were forced to either play that deck or a deck built specifically to beat it."
Maybe I am being too pessimistic and multiple solutions in differing archetypes will arise. (And for sure I am posting these musings in the wrong thread and will stop with this one.) But my gut is saying this is too good to last utterly broken.
Yeah I'm going to wait to see the first gp but the top 8 did not look good. I will still try to play BW processors in modern but I may jump ship on eye of ugin and Yawgmoth fairly soon.

This talking about ban is getting really boring already, all the foruns are like this, people don't want to think what can be done, they just talk about ban this, ban that.
Nothing is banned without WZ giving SB options first, just chill and w8 for someone to came up with a solution, it's just a matter of time. This is just one tournament, lots of the card choices were meta call, once people learn to play against and what can be done, things will change.
Just a heads up guys, worship and painter's servant are spiking in price. I think these are going to be the sideboard cards of choice. Be prepared with disenchants, Ulamog and AiD.

We shouldn't have to worry too much about servant. We have 6-8 removal spells and 10 discard effects.
The RU and the Colorless versions however may have to worry a bit more.

True, I am less worried about servant than I am worship. Honestly, it is a card I want against the RU and Colorless versions. But for now, Eldrazi seems to have taken over the meta in the near future and everyside board is going to be gunning for us. Painter's is a colorless choice for all decks, which is why it has tripled its price. Worship is now a $20 card, and yesterday it was $1.5 (wish I had bought some). The big question with worship is will it be too slow.
Flaying tendrils is very good against the RU version and ultimately I think they don't have a way to deal with Worship other than ticking up a ratchet bomb. By playing white we have a lot more options. Ghostly prison might be another good option as most decks are going stompy.
