I still play Retreat at 1 copy. The capability of One-Shot Kills are so powerful that it's not cost to playing 1 copy when you have 4 Knights and 4 CoCo's to find them. There are people on JTMS (JTMS + CoCo is actually just unbelievable) and understandably so but it's nearly no cost to you by putting a single copy of Retreat in your deck when you're playing Knight, Courser, Tracker, and any other stuff you may be playing.
The reason to play blue is for Spell Queller, Reflector Mage, Retreat to Coralhelm, JTMS (Nissa UG or Tamiyo), and counterspells. All these cards are integral to what Knightfall is trying to do. If these don't fall within your play style, aren't doing you well at FNM, or how you want to enjoy MTG, then play a different G/W/x deck. There's actually no reason to play KotR outside Bant and G/W Value Town when Abzan Counter CoCo is strictly better at doing what an Abzan creature midrange deck with Knight is trying to do.
Admittedly, I got really lucky as I ran into all of the worst matchups and they all got screwed. I went 4-0-2 in Swiss and lost in the Semi-finals.
Round 1- Storm: Game 1 he failed to go off. Game 2 He mulliganed to 4.
Round 2- Tron: Both games, the opponent just took way too long to get tron online.
Round 3- Burn: Game 1 he got flooded, but game 2 was a tight game. He just drew a bunch of creatures late game after I already had a board presence.
Round 4- Tron: Game 1 failed to get tron online fast enough, Game 2 was close but I lost after a late game Ugin. Game 3 had 5 minutes left on the clock and she kept a bad hand for time's sake. No Tron lands but lots of cantrips, but I had the Stony Silence which locked her out.
Round 4 and 5 were Intentional Draws. The decks were Infect (which I probably would have won) and Jeskai Ascendancy.
T8
Quarterfinals- Rematch of the Burn guy. Game 1 was close but he bricked in the end. Game 2 was again close but he drew 3 Destructive Revelry and 2 Searing Blaze when I didn't have a Worship and he didn't draw lands.
Semifinals- I just got steamrolled by Jeskai Ascendancy. I kept a questionable hand Game 3 and it didn't pan out.
Overall, I just got super lucky. However, I would've liked to face other opponents like Humans. However, there were only 2 Humans players in the room of 64 and they both lost early. I never got to try the Tamiyo in any of the games, so I'm not sure how I feel. I might finally take out the 1 Qasali Pridemage since Affinity is on the decline, and replace it with a Selfess Spirit. I have been hesitant to do this as it's still a fine beater with exalted and it can come in handy in certain situations. I also might cut a single Staticaster from the Board as the decks it's good against seem to not be prevalent around here. Other than that, I don't know if I would make many changes to the list. Everything felt good. I just got rather lucky.
Long time away from the deck. Recently, I got beaten in a win-and-in at a Modern Staples tournament by a Bant Company list with no Retreat to Coralhelm, which spurned my interest again.
What list do you think is the most successful type of list in today's current meta? I've been playing a lot of GW Company, so I am a bit rusty on casting Collected Company into Spell Queller, but I'm willing to try again. I personally always loved 2 Retreat to Coralhelm and would possibly be willing to try 3 if needed, but what do you think? What's having success now?

I'm still pro-Coralhelm. I think it's a flexible card and also a "oops, i win"-button. Against all those uninteractive decks it's ok to play 3x copies!
For now I play GW Valuetown but thought about giving Bant a chance again. My all-time allstar is and will be Reflector Mage. Don't know how many games I won thanks to him!
For the deck I would try a more "oldschool" list but add 3-4 copies of Reflector Mage.

Militia Bugler adds another threatening body with hella good value to hold off aggro, dig for whatever you need, and also loves CoCo. With Coralhelm combo behind it, I'm actually going to give the "classic" Knightfall a try for a bit rather than keep clunking through Vizier Knightfall, which just hasn't been consistent enough lately for me.
On thetechzombie's list, i really not like your manabase i prefear play no red and less forests and more horizon canopy and ghost quarter if you not run retreat.
First point is that I only have the one Canopy. Second, I don't even like Canopy that much. It still pains me like Fethces and Shocks do, I rarely end up drawing off of it, and it isn't a plains/forest that can be sacrificed to Knight.
On having red without the combo, I think you're wrong. I used to play without the combo and without red, and I would just get stuck in board stalls. Gavony can sometimes help, but it's way slower than Kessig. Even without the combo, Kessig just lets you win out of nowhere. I can't tell you how many times I've been able to fetch up a Kessig after blocks to kill my opponent simply because they didn't expect it. Also, with Humans running around with Phantasmal Images, it's a neat trick to Kessig their own Image to kill it. It's saved me several games. The Kessig package is good enough in and of itself that I would probably always play it, but on top of that, it gives you access to a really important sideboard card: Izzet Staticaster. Staticaster is really good against Humans and other small dork decks lie Elves, Spirits, and Druid combo.
The red doesn't hurt our manabase a ton (occassionally it can come up. It hurt me pretty bad in the final game of the Semis from my previous post), but it can give you access to some important tools. I would not cut the red, even if I'm not running the Combo.
In response to the overall discussion on Retreat, I haven't liked it for a while now, and I think a lot of the lists that have been showing up lately on Goldfish have been cutting them. I found myself almost always siding them out. Without resulting in a combo, the card just does nothing. So you either have to go all in on them, or you have to cut them entirely. I would just play other cards to help against linear decks like Meddling Mage or better value cards in those slots.
@BartHenryksson
I don't see in which world retreat is a good flexible card and retreat can make you better against tron, KCI, storm and valakut but it will be bad against humans, midrange, control. Even the most unfair deck have some interactions now and i think it's a problem when you play a non-consistent combo.
My last try of bant is with 4 reflector, 3 tracker and 4 thalia MD, i am not sure it's a good deck now but i really think retreat is a bad combo when you can play ultra consistent combo like vizier or kiki toolbox or any KCI, Storm. It's why i just try the fair way.
My 2 cts on coralhelm.
Retreat can filter your topdecks which can be good in grindy matchups or tap down a big threat game one. Sure, Retreat is one of the cards which gets board out most of the games but it gives a little edge to do unfair things in a almost fair deck. Just because you have the combo in the deck doesn't mean you have to go all-in on that one plan. That's what I like to this deck!
Did you play 4x Thalia, Guardian of Thraben? What's your experience? I love, love, love this card but felt she is not that good in modern

Gaddock Teeg is great against them, especially if you play Meddling Mage to stop Path and such, but it’s not like Legacy Maverick where you can just Tutor it and protect it with Mother of Runes. Gaddock Teeg is susceptible to so many forms of interaction from their deck especially post-board where they can mold their deck to be better suited to answering threats.
Don’t get me wrong tho, I’ve had my fair share of casting it when my opponents hands were Cryptic Command x 2, Verdicts, and Elspeth. It can be super powerful, as well as hit many other decks, but I think your main goal alongside this (if you choose to play Gaddock Teeg) is to have ways to pump out creatures and create constant card flow. Tireless Tracker is just a step above, Courser and Witness are great options, Planeswalkers are excellent, and if you can afford to, play Geist of Saint Traft.
Tournament report for a PPTQ last weekend in which I played Bant Knightfall. Went 4-1-1 to place 6th in the top 8, then promptly lost in the quarter finals.
I forgot to record my sideboards, but will do my best to recall what cards worked well.
Round 1: GW Druid Combo - 1-2
G1 (L): I kept a slow hand and lost to the turn 3 combo. Oh well!
G2 (W): My opponent doesn't assemble combo, but builds a sizable board, including a Pridemage. I assemble combo, but they mistime their Pridemage and I win. My opponent also had a Knight in play and they fetched a Ghost Quarter, so I fetched my own Ghost Quarter in response to destroy it.
G3 (L): I stop the combo, but instead lose to a Knight with Kessig Wolf Run.
Sideboard: We both agreed Staticaster was my most influential card out of the side.
Round 2: KCI - 2-0
G1 (W): Quick game, as I turn 3 combo.
G2 (W): Also a quick game as I drop a Stony Silence on turn 2 and a Thalia the following turn.
Sideboard: A lot of sideboarding for us in this match up. Thalia, Stony Silence, Pridemage and the counterspells in favour of Paths and some assortment of 2 drops.
Round 3: UG Infect 2-1
G1 (L): I almost win this one, surprisingly. I manage to assemble blockers for two Glistener Elves, for which my opponent was willing to trade for (I assume the new lists don't run Distortion Strike/Slip Through Space). My opponent runs out of cards and crawls over the line with an Agent which I'm unable to draw an answer for.
G2 (W): Better draws this time, and I manage to Path a threat and play a Thalia which slows my opponent to a grind. Thalia with Spell Queller to stop any pumps spells seals the deal.
G3 (W): I got quite lucky this game, and my opponent may have made some mistakes. I draw both my Staticasters over the course of the game, which was lucky as one got Dismembered. My opponent did still have an Inkmoth Nexus with a Pendelhaven to protect it. We had a bit of a stand off for a few rounds while I had a Staticaster, Retreat and uncracked fetchland in play. I opted to tap down his Nexus when he went for the kill, and as it turns out, my opponent didn't realise that was a line.
Sideboard: Thalia, Settle, Staticaster, and the counters came in. Courser and assorted 2 drops were cut, along with one CoCo due to the lower density of creatures. I did replace one of our remaining two drops with the Pridemage. I believe this was correct, though it did not come up.
Round 4: Affinity 2-1
This was against a friend and we had played the match up numerous times.
G1 (L): I find the first game is usually lost without either the combo or some assortment of Spell Quellers/Paths. Anyhow, Affinity does their thing while I play some fair Magic and lose to an Etched Champion.
G2 & 3 (Ws): I apologise but these matches have blurred together. One was won due to my opponent's mulligan to 5 followed by a Stony Silence from me, and a Staticaster put in a lot of work in the other one.
Sideboarding: Once again, our two drops and Coursers are quite weak. Stony, Pridemage, Staticaster and Settle come in.
Round 5: Tron 2-0
G1 (W): This game goes forever. I fought through two Karns, which both downticked, an O-Stone, and two Ulamogs, one of which got Pathed. The other Ulamog attacked while I had 3 lands, two Voice tokens and a Knight left. My opponent took out my only blue source instead of the Knight (who was a 2/2 after a Relic was popped), as they saw all my blue fetch lands were now in exile. Luckily, I had my trusty Botanical Sanctum still in deck and managed to meek out lethal after tapping down a Wurmcoil Engine. I doubt I would have won if not for a few misplays on my opponent's behalf.
G2 (W): Opponent mulligans to five, I Pridemage an early O-Stone and Spell Quell a Sylvan Scrying to get there.
Round 6: ID
Turns out I would have played against the Infect player who won the day.
Quarter Finals: UW Miracle Control - 1-2
This is not a fun match up at all. Terminus and Teferi and really bad for us.
G1 (L): My critical board gets miracle Terminus'd. I must have been getting mentally exhausted by this time as I try to Spell Quell it.
G2 (W): I counter the Terminuses (Terminii?) and swing. Easy peasy.
G3 (L): This is a colossal game. My opponent casts three Terminii, I cast 4 Collected Companies, with 3 resolving. One whiffs, one is answered by a Terminus, and the third fails to produce a critical flying blocker to answer a lethal Collonade. I also failed to stop Teferi, who got out of hand with regards to card draw. Tireless Trackers put in A LOT of work this game.
Sideboard: Spell Queller is actually not as strong as one might think, and I ended up shaving one. Voice and Tracker are the all stars of this match up. I don't hate keeping one of the Retreats in. Pridemage, Thalia and the counters came in. Pridemage to hit Search for Azcanta.
Final thoughts: A decent run. I've been losing to the UW control deck quite a bit lately, and have been thinking of cards to increase our chances. I'm still debating the merits of 2x Eternal Witness in the Courser slot MB. Also worthy to note, I didn't play against any burn/Hollow One, which is a terrible match up.
Hello, just wanted to give some feedback from my recent try of the todd stevens list. Made 4-0 recently to a store nearby won a snap, so that was neato.
I don't have 4 noble yet and didn't had Jace, mind sculptor too so added some random 1-0f, turned out good.
Was hardly considering other cool 1-of that can rekt some deck like Rumatap + Azusa + ghost quarter. but I settled with using aven Mindcensor to block deck that forgot that card existed. Made me won against Scapeshift in my last round.
1- round
Naya walker: Brew deck but since I don't kill him super fast he was a fun match but killed him 2-0 on time.
2- round
Living end, he won game one even tho I was trying to set up a Jace turn 2 starting to discard my creature. game 2 & 3, did turn 1 nihil spellbomb and turn 2 Ooze. was pretty solid against him.
3- Round
UW control, 2-0 him. too much constant value with Teferi + voice token. Game 2, unified will MVP.
4- Scapeshift
Lost game 1. Game 2 got him locked with a Mindcensor he never saw my unified will. Game 3 i stalled the board while he had 1 card in hand then had courser + Teferi and 1 aven Mindcensor onboard + he saw my unified will in my hand and tireless tracker making infinite value for 1-2 turn.
Overall-
Amazing deck. Teferi +1 getting 2 land untap with Gavony, aven, queller, clique, make the deck a gorgeous being. Early boost and sometime just noble into ooze then get to exile stuff and attack early pretty good. I really gotta find a spot to play unified will in main deck I think, to free more spot in the SB.
Obstinate Baloth would be rarely sided in I think, but I'm so scared of hollow one deck Any feedback possible? Thanks for reading.
For burn I'd actually cut the forge-tender and add another voice of resurgence. Basically, you're gonna try and value them out, so you need to have something that can trade with their creatures or block a couple times by turn two. I'd cut an E wit and 2x viziers, bring in 2x voice, and the courser. maybe cut another mana dork to add in the eidolon of rhetoric, if you're on the play.
Tron, you need those unified wills and kataki can be disruptive if you get him early enough. so cut 2x tracker, 1x scooze, maybe 1x path. Reasoning for the path cut is when you really need it you're almost never at a point when you can win on the crack back.
Burn:
- 1 Eternal Witness
- 2 Vizier of Remedies
+ 2 Voice of Resurgence
+ 1 Courser of Kruphix
Knight of Autumn Maindeckable? Or is it sweet sideboard tech?
In case this link isnt up yet its:
Knight of Autumn 1GW
Creature — Dryad Knight {R}
When Knight of Autumn enters the battlefield, choose one —
• Put two +1/+1 counters on Knight of Autumn.
• Destroy target artifact or enchantment.
• You gain 4 life.
2/1
In the vizier version of the deck I still feel like its better than finks out of the board for everything except burn. Its better than manglehorn/rec sage/kataki/pridemage and when you need to put on pressure, its a good solid beater. Im going to put two in the board right away over a pridemage and a manglehorn. In fact I think I'll go up to three in the board cutting 1 of my two kitchen finx. Heres my new sideboard for this card.
I'd love any tweaks or suggestions to my sideboard
Also total side note, what do people think about vendilion clique in the vizier build it can serve as a threat, removal bait, and combo protection. I have no issues with the UU cost either. Im currently on a 2/2/2 split of reflector mage, spell queller, and vendillion clique mainboard and it feels great
The card seems absolutely nuts. I for sure wouldn't maindeck it in the Vizier version but I'm willing to try one in traditional. Either way I'm playing at least two in the board. If only it's P/T were reversed so it could dodge bolt, but I understand why they didn't do that lol. Anyways I'm excited for it
I think maybe one copy of Vclique is fine in the board but I really don't think it's where you want to be in the main. High I'd be more inclined to play a 3rd Queller and 1 something else than the 2 Clique
do you have some time for our new lord and saviour Knight of Autumn? I will just main deck a playset for my Rhonas and 4+ attack friend knightfall company and go wreck some burn/aggro deck's day. Knight of Autumn will also destroy quite some number of Tron's Expedition Map and UW's Search for Azcanta
I just did some testing and I think that vclique as a 1 of in the main is fine. 2 is less than ideal. I couldn’t keep a 2 clique hand. I’m going back up to 3 witness. I’m going to use 3 knight of autumn in the board because I feel like they are better than finks even with Vizier letting them block even more. They also free up an extra sideboard slot due to their multipurposenes. Knight of Autumn is a godsend

I unpacked and sleeved this up again the other day as my other pet deck is on shaky ground in the meta. This is where I'm planning to go once Knight of Autumn, but I only got 2 matches in last night. (Soulflayer Combo 2-0, BG Aristocrats 2-0) and its been a good while since Ive played it.
Expected meta of Hollow One, KCI, Tron, Humans, Burn and UW the usual, but also a spike of BGx decks (3 Spell Snare).
Not sure if anyone else is playing actual Knightfall, I have run into more Value Town and Counters Combo than actual Knightfall, but the old deck still does work.
Have not changed much but went up to 3 Retreat for the improved Turn 3 win odds.

Tron:
- 2 Tireless Tracker
- 1 Scavenging Ooze

In case this link isnt up yet its:
Knight of Autumn 1GW
Creature — Dryad Knight {R}
3 Knight of Autumn
1 Eidolon of Rhetoric
3 Path to Exile
2 Scavenging Ooze
1 Izzet Staticaster
2 Unified Will
1 Selfless Spirit
1 Worship
1 Bojuka Bog
I'd love any tweaks or suggestions to my sideboard
Also total side note, what do people think about vendilion clique in the vizier build it can serve as a threat, removal bait, and combo protection. I have no issues with the UU cost either. Im currently on a 2/2/2 split of reflector mage, spell queller, and vendillion clique mainboard and it feels great
I think maybe one copy of Vclique is fine in the board but I really don't think it's where you want to be in the main.
Expected meta of Hollow One, KCI, Tron, Humans, Burn and UW the usual, but also a spike of BGx decks (3 Spell Snare).
