There have been several lists in the past using Chord as a 1-2 of (such as this or the spiciest list I've ever seen). I'm not a huge fan because GGG can be challenging with our awkward manabase (though convoke makes it easier), but primarily because I've found this to be a grindy midrange deck first, and a combo deck second. As powerful and versatile as it is, Chord is an overcosted creature where Company provides card and mana advantage.
Really cool to see landfall coming up again, certainly got a lot stronger now that it has a three drop to double up on landfall triggers turn 3. I remember when coralhelm had just been spoiled and people where thinking of running the landfall duo with the combo as it has some obvious synergy. Problem was sometimes your landfall dudes just sit there looking foolish but hopefully rallier is going to keep them swinging. I adjusted the landbase for blue and just swapped out the seals for 2 coralhelms.
Simple and fair enough adjustment, but cutting Seal of Fire loses the awesome synergy with Rallier: it both enables Rallier by triggering Revolt, and acts as a payoff for Rallier since Rallier can return it, turning him into a mini-Flametongue Kavu. Removing Seal of Fire also weakens Tarmogoyf.
That being said I'm going to ask the question that's probably on the mind of any budget-conscious people who would be interested in this deck: what's a good replacement for Tarmogoyf, if any? In the videos Jeff Hoogland basically answered this question with "play another deck" but... What do you guys think? If anything, Selfless Spirit seems a reasonable candidate: good to return with Rallier, can enable Rallier in a pinch, offers protection to Knight and our landfall dorks, and it's an evasive threat.
Not to mention, I've never been impressed with Goyf in decks like this one that mainly only run creatures, lands and instants.
Honestly at 2 mana the best goyf replacement I've seen in a deck that wants to be attacking is Greenwheel Liberator. Revolt is trivial to trigger and frankly this is just way better than something like Flinthoof Boar which is the typical suggestion before Greenwheel's printing. But frankly, it ain't goyf. It's dying to lightning bolt. With That said Goyf is never going to be as good in our decks as it will be in a deck with targeted discard, but it's still trivially easy for it to get big on it's own based on what our both we and our opponents naturally do throughout the game. That's always what this argument comes down to in the end. Goyf is just typically going to be bigger, badder, and more bolt proof that anything else in the two mana slot. Yeah, sometimes he'll just be 1/2 in our deck but those games are far far rarer than the games where he's in the 3/4 to 5/6 range.
Also I didn't want to discount the Seal of Fire synergy with Renegade Rallier but if we have to make cuts I'd rather be full up on bolts and paths then cutting them for Retreat to Coralhelm. With that said this list is very very early and we might find room yet for Seal of Fire
Hey everybody! I'm very strongly considering buying into knightfall (I love a lot of things about this deck) but I have to ask before I start getting the pieces, is there any chance that a version running Eldritch Evolutionor Chord of Callingcould be competitive? I think I personally would just like something with a little stronger of a creature toolbox, and I don't think Collected Companyis the best enabler for cards you're running a low count of.
If you want to try eldritch evolution I could recommend you the version I brew and played for a long time
Problem is, there is no good toolbox version because both toolbox cards are not as good as collected company. And most of the time you dont need a specific creature to win the game, you just want to win the battlefield and collected does that amazingly well. I really, really tried hard to brew something with it but in the end I'm playing with collected.
Anyway, most of the cards are the same so building both evolution and collected versions shouldn't be much of a problem

I mean, if that's the best we've got then yeah, it's definitely no Goyf. There's Vinelasher Kudzu but that card also seems underwhelming, as it's far less explosive than other options. Although with a turn three Raliier to return a fetch it could potentially become a permanent 5/5 on turn 3. Nothing to write home about but it's an option.

I've run 1 Chord and yes, it's definitely viable. It's very slow in this deck, though, and it reduces your hits, so you likely don't want to pack more than one in the main and maybe one in the board for matchups where hatebears matter. I've moved away from it but it's definitely a good option.

After looking at this and going through some of the older posts, I think I'd like to try a version with a couple of eldritch evolution supplemental to the CoCo package. something like 2 EE, 2-3 targets, and some additional snags in the sideboard. does that seem reasonable, or is it too ambitious to try and fit that into the deck?
Also, eldritch evolution with renegade rallier seems like a solid synergy, since the evolution enables revolt.
Guys please opinions on japanese cards. Lost a 3/3 creature against Japan celestial colonade. This guy played all creatures and spells in english cards, but some cards in his manabase was japanese. I dont registrated this really ( my brain say its all fine and all english to me lets attack his empty board)...and i am sure it is a Kind of legal cheating. It is not ok, but i know legal. I Hate such people. I never forget colonade normally, but with this Tricks it can happen one time in 3 years and such people take advantage of this
If I am a customer spending premium amount of dollars, I expect a premium service. Jund falls into the category of a premium deck costing more dollars than a majority of the rest of the format. I'm not getting the desired performance ratio per dollars spent out of the Jund deck because WOTC decided to make the format more diverse.
Why is that deck running grim flayer? It only has 5 enchantments to enable delerium.
I have no clue. Like I said, it's a spicy one. It's worth noting that the pilot, Shawn Becker, did well with that list then reverted to a more standard Knightfall list (and still did well).

CoCo and evolution do different things (card advantage vs card selection) and don't play well together (CoCo wants to have as many hits as possible). Definitely don't recommend mixing both. Go either one way or another.
I've said it a lot in this thread. Renegade rallier is mediocre in regular knightfall (either coco or evolution). What do you want to do with evolution, sac voice to search for rallier and bring voice back? At that point I would run kikievolution (does the same but with pia and kiraan, which is a much better card overall). I only like rallier in the landfall deck that we were discussing earlier.
I've seen a few people running Surgical Extraction. Would we be running Rest In Peace over that if not for Knight of the Reliquary? If so, has anyone tested Wheel of Sun and Moon instead? I know it doesn't exile the graveyard on coming down, but it does almost as hard a number on Dredge as RIP AFAIK (they can still Dredge to get someone back on top, but the dredged cards just cycle as a replacement effect). And it's the same CMC and easy color weight. (Although I get that Surgical also lets you blow up a Tron land and then exile all of them, and also gives you information on their hand.) Any thoughts?

The theory I guess was that the deck loves its 3 drops, and evolution is just your choice of 3 drop when you cast it, and it can do other things if needed. If running EE is untenable, then I can drop it without too much complaint. a 4 mana dig through time that puts creatures into play seems stronger overall, even if I personally like it less.

Surgical Extraction is for sure the best answer. It`s free and has utility in other matchups (play it on a tron piece after a GQ and watch your opponent scoop). Wheel of Sun and Moon is too slow to matter.

I wouldn't dismiss rallier too quickly if I were you. Keep in mind that it doesn't just bring back creatures. It opens up multiple avenues of tempo/control plays. Ghost quarter into rallier bringing back ghost quarter for another activation for example can be a back breaking sequence against some decks. It can bring back destroyed wolf-run/townships, or it can even just be used to ensure you don't miss crucial land drops.

I guess the correct card to compare Renegade Rallier to is Eternal Witness. So the question becomes +1/+1 and restricted to 2cmc or less permanents but directly into play, vs unrestricted access to any card in the yard. Since Collected Company and Path to exile play such an important role in the deck, my inclination is to say that Eternal Witness is the better card here.
I'd certainly entertain the idea that Renegade Rallier's directly-into-play bonus could put it over the top. That being said, Eternal Witness hasn't been making the cut recently - although with a grindier metagame on the way perhaps she'll be back. Anyone doing testing should let us know how it compares to eternal witness (would witness have been better in that spot)?

How have people been feeling about Sejiri Steppe? I remember it was all the rage for a while, but aside from allowing Knight to swing with protection (which is effectively covered by Kessig Wolf Run anyways), it seems the protection kind of relies on your opponent being greedy and sitting on their removal. Plus you need to have a fetch in play to crack in response if they cast their removal in response to your activation.

You wrote exactly my thoughts. Witness has won me games just by bringing back path, blessed alliance or collected company. You are trading flexibility for mana and tempo advantage, and in regular knightfall I prefer the flexibility.
I get you. Eternal witness has been a very good one-of for me. Even in the linear match ups like affinity and infect, I've been cutting cards like voice, courser and retreat before even considering witness. Witness and Rallier are definitely competing for the same slot. They're both very good cards to have.
In my opinion, if fatal push becomes a big player in modern, rallier's ability to rebuild a board more quickly is probably slightly better. The only real potential problem I can see is if the deck cannot reliability trigger revolt, in which case, witness is definitely better.
Regardless, will try to jam some games as soon as I get my hands on some.

I just sleeved up my knightfall deck again and am going to play in some local modern events. It has been awhile since I followed Knightfall so if anyone has some time and can give me some feedback on sideboard cards and some maindeck creatures that would be really helpful! List is here: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/551798#online
Cards that I have for the sideboard that I'm thinking of putting in: Loxodon Smiter, Izzet Staticaster, Dismember, and Unified Will. Right now I feel like I should cut Fauna Shaman and a Courser of Kruphix for Spellskites especially since everyone I know is trying to run Fatal Push.
My meta is mostly burn, infect, jund, abzan, merfolk, bant eldrazi, grixis control and dredge. I have two friends that play bant spirits and grixis goroyo's vengence. From my own testing with them it felt like I had a good winrate against burn and infect. The goroyo's vengence deck is easy for me to beat after sideboarding Thalia in. If I can get her in it usually stops all Emrakul attacking out of nowhere. I don't know if this is the best approach to tackling the deck but it has been working.
A couple of questions too, does Narnam Renegade fit in the deck anywhere? The card looks fun and revolt seems very easy to trigger with Knight, Selfless Spirit and if I'm not mistaken the angel token from Geist. Also, I've only pulled the combo off about 20% of the time should the number of Retreats be put up to 3 instead of 2?
Melira isn't needed, switch those for 2 staticasters. Oozes are needed maindeck, that's for sure. If you're starting with the archetype I would leave apart fauna shaman... it's being tested more than being a proven thing in the deck.
Geists are also in a weird spot... if you have read this thread you know that there's a lot of discussion about it. I don't think that running geist is wrong but you might want to either change your mainboard a bit to support it (cards like dromoka's command, more selfless spirit, reflector mage, eiganjo's castle) or cut them. I don't know, there's no proven knightfall list with geist so all of this is just brewing. My experience is that geist is good when your deck can support it, otherwise it's bad.
Dismember is not needed. You might want to swap some negates for some unified wills, both cards serve similar purposes. You might want to fit a worship in the sideboard, for both merfolk and dredge.
Wouldn't try to fit a deathtouch kird ape in here. Number of retreats depends on your meta. If you say that it's "mostly burn, infect, jund, abzan, merfolk, bant eldrazi, grixis control and dredge" then 2 copies is fine (you only want it against eldrazi and maybe dredge and merfolk).
