I've been running Timely Reinforcements to help with the burn match. 6 life and 3 bodies goes a long way, especially if you live the dream of following it with a Sorin. I had Leylines, but I just never saw them in my opener and I would make bad mulling decisions to try and find them.
Each time i've played against affinity, souls and spot removal keep me in game 1. Game 2 Stony Silence usually wins on the spot. I still bring in disenchant just in case.
Against tron it is tough, but winnable. Our discard goes a long way in each game, then Fulminator can usually keep them off Tron while you attack or setup walkers. Rain of Tears isn't a bad budget replacement for Fulminator if you are worried about Tron. The one upside of rain is that it can even hit basics if the need ever arises.
Here's where I'm at SB wise right now. I would appreciate any feedback/suggestions about cards or my numbers. The idea is to be prepared for a large, open meta.
Leyline seems great. Don't have any though... sad face. Runed halo naming Eidolon of the Great Revel is fine but very narrow. Chalice of the Void on 1 shut down half of their deck. That could be a thing. Chalice on 0 could be good against Affinity to, but you probably need to be on play and have it on your starting hand. Chalice on 1 might be good against Tron too, to counter all of their eggs.
I have not played that much against Affinity but Lingering Souls seems awesome against them. Also with Zealous Persecution, Stony Silence and maybe Disenchant in the sideboard game two and three couldn't be too hard.
Tron is probably harder. I have played that match up a lot and I feel it's maybe like 50/50. After sideboard I think we can tip the scales in our favor though. Stony Silence shuts down all the eggs and Oblivion Stone. I'm also thinking of maybe adding two Aven Mindcensor for this match up, which I think would be great agains Bloom Titan as well. The card that is the hardest to beat is Karn. I don't really know how to handle that dude.
I'm now on 4x Rain of Tears because Tron in my local meta is preatty hevy. I'm using 2x sadistic sacrament u_ù let's remove that urza's piece!!!
Today i lost really bad from leeving end =_=: it's not so played but still hard; i have only 1x Rest in Peace, and Discard suck with all the cycling plan.
Mindrotted:
Rain seems not so bad thxs.
Abount affinity probably i'm overeacting: if he had a good start i belive really few decks can do somethings, but, still, probabli you're right about lingering and stony; i play 2 wrath too, shoud be easrier

- No, thats not a typo: I am trying out good old Sorin, Lord of Innistrad over Sorin, Solemn Visitor. I'm quite unsure of this, but here is my reasoning: he makes tokens with his +1, so he protects himself. Contrast with Solemn Visitor, who makes tokens with -2. But, I am thinking I will switch over to Solemn Visitor for the lifelink, which the deck really needs. We lose a lot of life with Dark Confidant, Thoughtseize, Dismember, and the lands. Lord of Innistrad makes 1/1 lifelink tokens, but its not quite enough. Thoughts?
- The sideboard is a toss up - I am trying to shore up decks / cards I am soft to, but there is literally no way to cover all of the bases. There is a strong argument that certain cards should be dropped in favor of others. This is me throwing my hands up in the air.
- Thoughts on Murderous Cut? I chose Dismember over it, because I can potentially use Dismember on turn 1 to kill mana dorks, which you def can't do with Murderous Cut. The problem, of course, is the life loss on Dismember. Burn is currently competing with Junk as the most popular deck (at least on Magic Online it is, which is what I play). Dismember, along with the large amounts of life loss in the deck, can bite us in the butt in that matchup. So I'm torn. Thinking about putting Cut in the sideboard

1. I Think you'll end up liking Solemn Visitor a lot more. The deck does a good job at protecting him and the lifelink is extremely valuable.
2. Sideboarding can be real tricky since we have access to so many great cards. As you play your meta more you can fine tune it. The one thing I doubt you'll need is canonist. With all our disruption and disenchant, storm shouldn't pose much of a problem. I would suggest some number of Stony Silence and Celestial Purge for that spot.
3. I would not run Cut and Confidant in the same deck. Losing 5 to reveal a removal spell you might not be able to cast doesn't feel good. I do think it would be fine as a 1 of in the Bob-less versions of Dead Guy.
How do you guys feel about edict effects? Like Geth's Verdict or Gatekeeper of Malakir? I don't think these are mentioned at all in the primer or in recent deck lists outside of Liliana of the Veil. I find that Deadguy Ale is pretty great at keeping the enemy board down to 1-2 creatures at a time, and edicts punish that board state so wonderfully.

I've played with gatekeeper a little bit. He wasn't bad, but he competes with Lili for the 3 drop edict spot and getting triple black was a little tricky in my build. Geth's Verdict is something that I have only played in the sideboard. I liked it there, but was nervous about main decking it for fear of souls and pyromancer tokens. I'd be curious to know if anyone else has tried it.
I saw that Shasheen Soorani played a B/W Control deck I'm modern at SCG Open this weekend. Would love too see the decklist but I'm not sure he will place high enough for them to post it. Guess we can always hope.
Any news on who is going to get the primer?
Yesterday i taked our BW in a small tournament, went ok i suppose:
- T1 vs Restore Balance 2 - 0
A really tough g1: Seize on Violent outburst geve me enough tourn to hit him and playng liliana.
He played restore balance and i keept only Lily. At that point i kept 2 land in hand: two turn later i played Soulflayer and 4 damage at the time i won.
A piece of cake: land, IoK on Violent outburst, Land, Pack Rat, land Sadistic Sacrament on Restore Balance. GG.
- T2 Esper Mill 2 - 1
G1 i keept a strong hand but with hig risck of mana screw: only mutavault and Godless Shrine.
Liliana of the veil, Phyrexian Arena, Pack Rat, IoK, Toghutseize.
Land, Iok on random mill, Land, Seize on Snapcaster, no land, then i started mutavault attack. Two turn like those, then he saw Path to Exile, i was dumb enough to search in the library, Archive Trap and in a few turn game was over. 0 - 1
G2 in: 3xLeyline of Sanctiry (eh eh eh eh) out 3xPath to Exile
Perfect hand: 6x Random card 1x Leyline...(was ok, i dont' remeber all cards but like 4 land, discard, creature and something i was blinded from leyline!)i started game with it, the guy looked me, thinking, looking his heand, still tinking, like...40 second of silence. Suddenly "i didin't see that caming. I give up." and he started to side again, for sure looking for Desenchant. 1 - 1
G3
I knew that leylyne and discard was the point. I take a 5 card mulligan: an hand of s**t ...exept for (land, Iok, Lelyne, Baneslayer angel, Pack Rat)
Leyline, then Iok.
He kept playng, probably for Ecoing Truth, but i saw, some turn after, 2 lands, then Pack Rat did the rest. 2 - 1
T3 Naya Zoo
G1:
I kept a good hand, discard, removal, 3 land, some stuff, by i swear, by turn 3 the game was over o.o.
I was against Nacatl 3/3, Kird Ape 2/3, loam lion 2/3, Goblin guide 2/2 Goblin guide 2/2 and the land who gave duble strike. I mostly watched him plaing against nothing...and i knew that g2 wudunt' be so different.
G2: In: 2x Wrath of God out 2x some slow stuff
This time game was better: his star was normal, with an onest nacatl and an ape secon turn...nothing unbeateble. I discarded an helix, he did anoter creature 3 turn. Then i used wrath, he was with a path and bolt i think, and i was quitly sure that i can so something. after that, he saw loam lion, i didn't saw more removal or liliana...and i lost.
T3 Mono G infect
About that i was just unluky i guess.
G1 bad dice roll, he strdet, drop 1 with infect, ok.
I did Path before he can do something else like hexproof or protection.
Then he passed, i was all happy and then i use Seize on him. He haded a 3 drop infect but just 2 manas and no land, i had anther path so i left that. Only problem he haded 1 postole blessing and 1 instant cmc 1 that gave +1 +1 and hexproof (and that one with phyrexian mana that gave +2+2).
I was on board with pack rat and one mana open, he topdeccked cmc1 elf with infect =_= form there was a disaster.
G2 in: Wrath of God 2x out 1x Utter End (yeah i'm playng that and i like it u.ù) and 1x banelayer angel
No luck here...mulligan at 5 with only 1 colorless mana. Game loss widout playng.
------------------------------------------
I was thinking that we shoud write some accurate MU analysis because honestly it's what this trhead miss.
I was totaly unprepared against zoo actually...in my meta, and in general, becamed a rare deck. With affnity it's different, we have stony silence, but only 2 wrath sometimes can be not enough against that kind of fastness.
What guys do you think?

I'm using 1x Baneslayer and 1x Baron, and honestly i'm starting to belive that baron is better then baneslayer: he survive all modern removal and hit really hard.
I'm considering replacing Baneslayer with another Blood Baron.
I'm running 1x Sword...but i dont' know, i'm not sold on it. I'm thinking for someting else.
About Tron: 4x Rain of Tears / Fulminator Mage and 2x Sadistic sacrament 2x Stony silence and can be done. Still hard tough.
About your last question: people in modern don't test in my opinion. But honestly biggest problem in this deck is that miss a low-mana hitter, like Goyf.
I'm playng with success Soulflyer, from Fate Reforget.
Is not goyf but helps.

Thanks for the reply and your insight. I'll give Blood Baron a shot ahead of Baneslayer for a while.
I'm a big fan of the sword - it has performed well above expectations. I usually try to use it as a "5 drop" (play and equip) while they're tapped out to guarantee some use out of it. If you get to hit again, then you'll usually win the game. I am even considering a second sword (probably fire and ice) in the board, but don't know what I'd cut.
I'm really not a fan of Soulflayer, though I do play 4 Bobs. Flipping a 6cmc vanilla 4/4 who can only gain value off around 4 cards that can end up in your yard isn't what I'm looking for I'm afraid. Rather than trying to find a 'goyf replacement, I think BW is better at being an even more disruptive deck than Abzan to compensate for the lack of a fast early finisher (although Pack Rat is very good when it gets going!). You have both Pack Rat and Liliana to feed your late game discard to, so you can afford to run even more disruption.
Would you mind posting your current 75? There don't seem to be many new lists being posted in here at the moment and I for one could use some inspiration
I'll post my build today
Mine is pretty different from others, and not just for budget: 1°Phyrexian Arena is my card-advantage source, because my midium mana cost is high, this mean that i cant' afford Bobs.
About soulflyer i'm really sold on him, even better then Tasigur in my strategy: you can cicle discard from liliana and make him bigger when baron or baneslayer die or if you discard them.
You will see as soon as i can post the build

So I'm playing a BWr version of this deck. I really liked how much removal you could carry between Bolt, Helix, Path, Pact, and Dreadbore. Here is the decklist. I would love opinions on it. I'm also getting back into magic after like 6 years, so if you guys could suggest better cards for what I'm trying to do that would be helpful as well

Hi, sorry for the delay - been doing other stuff!
I like your list on the whole - I can see it being very good in long, grindy matchups such as vs. Abzan and UWR. I'm not sure about utter end in Modern due to its high cmc, but having an answer to just about everything is quite appealing. I chose go for the throat over victim of night as removal due to its more manageable casting cost. Obviously GFTT is a completely dead card vs affinity but on the whole I think its more manageable casting cost makes it better than victim of night. One spot where GFTT is actually better is vs. twin when they have a spellskite out - they will often jam the combo and it can't be re-directed to the 'skite! Quite narrow but it does come up from time to time!
I'm really not sold on the Soulflayers - there are only 2 creatures whose abilities they can inherit, and they are creatures you ideally want to be casting anyway. Most of the time Soulflayer will be a vanilla 4/4 for 2 on turn 3/4 at best I imagine? Not awful but there are better things to be doing in Modern. There is also the tension of not wanting to dredge away your Lingering Souls. I honestly think Soulflayer belongs in a dedicated dredge/re-animator strategy.
Discounting adding Dark Confidant (which would require the whole deck to be re-engineered for CMC reasons) and the mana base (for presumably budget reasons), the only obvious change I would make would be to drop the Soulflayers, probably to make way for another Tidehollow and either two more pieces of targeted discard, or one more targeted discard and another Lilana (she's that good!). This drops the average CMC of the deck a fair bit and adds more disruption, the excess of which you should be able to discard to rats or Lili later in the game.
Thanks for the recommendation to add Blood Baron by the way. I tried him out in the Baneslayer spot and although they are very similar, there is always the fear that Baneslayer will eat a Path off the top and that is never the case with Blood Baron. He is worse vs. Flame Slash but that's far less widely played than Path and also at finishing the game when your opponents gum up the ground with lots of little non-black-or-white guys, but at the present time I think he's the better option so cheers
I love to discuss my build with other players because is always something that give us someting to work on.
Let's talk for points:
-Soulflayer:
I cant' immagine someone who can actually agree with this choise.
I've understimate them too, but having a vanilla beater with CMC 2 it's a strong card.
I've NEVER delved Lingering, and he can be cast in turn 3.
Honestly i'm sold on him and after several tests i'm fully satisfied.
-Utter End:
It's a recent add and, still, i'm testing: CMC 4 it's havy, but he can remove everityng and he was usfull untill now.
Still...is not Decay or Vindicate but it's a mono-champagne and i guess it's ok right now. Still hope to find someting better, and i'm looking advices.
-Victim of the Night:
I love victim: is what is closer to Terminate, is always usfull (exept some strange MU with unprobable tribal vampire/wolfs/zombie decks), and personally i've never had a problem with BB but i think that the difference between 2 CMC removal. I think is personal chiose, not much to discuss here.
-Tidehollow Sculler
I'm unsatisfied with it, i'm looking for another CMC 2 drop. Sculler is a grate tempo card but he don't stay long in play and get all kind of removals, can't attack because his dead give back a card to he opponent and so on...looking for advices here too.
About Marsh Flat and Liliana...is a budget reason

About Tron: 4x Rain of Tears / Fulminator Mage and 2x Sadistic sacrament 2x Stony silence and can be done. Still hard tough.
About your last question: people in modern don't test in my opinion. But honestly biggest problem in this deck is that miss a low-mana hitter, like Goyf.
I'm playng with success Soulflyer, from Fate Reforget.
Is not goyf but helps.

Liliana of the Veil will not be in MM2 since it won't contain cards from Innistrad. Fulminator Mage seems a lot more likely and even Dark Confidant could also see a second reprint.
