I'm on mardu nahiri too I don't think you want to be on bitterblossom, makes you a dog against burn, if you were running some number of sorins it might be worth it but its slow. I think 3 collective brutality main might be one too many and you could play some number of nights whispers for card advantage
Played this deck for the first time yesterday on a small 3-round tournament at my LGS. I had to improvise a few cards, so that's the list I ended up registering:
Round 1 - UR Wizards - 2x1:
A guy around here owns basically every playable card in modern and likes to brew. That's what he played yesterday. The deck is based around 1 and 2 mana creatures and a few cheap spells. I ended up losing game 2 because I got stuck on two lands and did not draw any 1 mana cards, so I had to cast one spell per turn, and a Remand on my Liliana was enough to put me behind. Games 1 and 3 went as expected.
Round 2 - Gr Tron - 1x2:
This guy has the best draw skills ever.
G1: I was on the play. Turn 1 IoK and I saw something like: Urza's Mine, Chromatic sphere, Ugin, Oblivion Stone, Sylvan Scrying, Ancient Stirrings, Pyroclasm. Sphere out. His first and second turn draws were: Expedition Map and Urza's Tower. He -2'ed Ugin to exile a pyromancer and a token, and I double bolted his planeswalker. The issue was that he found Karn, which was a little annoying, and World Breaker, VERY annoying. I killed it twice, with Liliana and Terminate, and managed to stall the game a little bit, but ended up losing.
G2: Turn 1 IoK taking Nature's Claim. Turn 3 Blood Moon. Turn 4 Bedlam Reveler. And that was almost NOT enough. I drew 2 Thoughtseizes and 1 Lightning Bolt on the following turns to kill him in 4 turns.
G3: He mulled to 5, and played turn 1 urzaland #1, pass turn. Turn 2 draw, play nothing, pass turn. I kept my 7: 3 lands, Inquisition, Looting, Molten Rain and Surgical Extraction. I Iok'ed him on turn 1, his hand was O. Stone, Nature's Claim, Wurmcoil Engine and Chromatic Star. I chose the star. Then on turn 2 I played looting, drew a second Extraction and thought "i dont even need this, the first extraction will keep him off tron for the rest of the game. And I need instants and sorceries in my GY to fuel my reveler". I discarded surgical + l. souls and played seize choosing o. stone this time. Then he played another tron land and a relic of progenitus. On my turn, molten rain his land and extracted it on his draw step. Then I realized: both the lands he had in play were the same. He plays different arts on his Urza lands (God I hate Tron players). On the following turns he drew the second urza land, and stirrings for the third urza land and pyroclasmed away two pyromancers and played a Thragtusk. I molten rained his last tower, and drew and played two K. Commands on the next turns, shattering an O. stone, making him discard an ugin and returning both my pyromancers. So I played the first Pyromancer, the second K. Command gave me a token to block tusk for a turn. I was at 5 life, he was hellbent, and my hand was: pyromancer, pyromancer, reveler. I attacked him for 2 and played two pyromancers, so next turn I could play reveler and generate a bunch of tokens. He had 4 lands. Guess what? He draws ballista, kills both my untapped pyromancers and my life total as well.
Round 3 - Infect - 2x0
New guy, playing with a new deck on a really bad match up. Nothing to say.
I agree. It was the last card I chose, because I wanted a 3rd Marsh Flats but did not have one. I also already managed to get 2 Goblin Rabblemaster to put on my SB. Besides that, deck felt a blast to play. Really solid.
Hi guys, I'm looking for help filling out my MB flex slots in a way that prepares for a local meta exceptionally heavy on aggro, with a bit of Bx Midrange + Tron, and then a smattering of control, prison, and combo. Full meta below:
2-3 Humans
2-3 GW Elves
2 Affinity
2 Taxes
2 Merfolk
2 Death's Shadow
2 Jund
2 Gx Tron
2 Lantern
1 Storm
1 Mardu
1 Burn
1 Ux Control
1 Titanshift
1 Hollow One
1 Abzan Company
Blood Moon seems good against Humans, Tron, Titanshift, and Ux decks that lean on Colonnade... but that's only ~20% of this meta. Is 20% enough to run Moon in the main? Split one main, one side? Or leave them all in the side?
Main-boarded sweepers seem good here. I could imagine moving the usual SB 2x Explosives into the main. Or Anger / Sweltering Suns?
Alternatively I could run more point removal that excels vs aggro such as Forked Bolt, Abrade, or Liliana TLH.
Another way to speed up the deck to handle fast aggro and Tron matchups might be to use some of the flex slots to go up to 4x Manamorphose. This could backfire against Thalias, though.
Right now I'm leaning towards 2x Manamorphose, 2x EE, and 1x Abrade main, with Moons in the side. Any other ideas?
Blood Moon can be good in any matchup naturally. I would still play it in the maindeck, but you can cut it down to a singleton if you wish. Your meta seems really good for Mardu, I generally consider Humans, Elves, Affinity, Taxes, Merfolk, DS, Jund, Control, Abzan CoCo and Hollow One to be very beatable. The only really bad matchups are Titanshift and Tron. Storm and Burn can be dicey but I personally wouldn't mind playing against the decks. Lantern depends on the clock.
I would not play mainboard sweepers, but I would maybe up my count on Fatal Pushes and lower the count on LoTV. I would also consider LtLH maindeck. A singleton Forked Bolt would also be an option.
I don't think you need speed really, but I would probably play a couple of Rabblemasters to have a decent clock against Tron, Storm, Titanshift and Lantern.
I think you can skimp on GY hate easily. The only matchup where you really want it is Hollow One and the mirror. And therefore I would cut down to 2 Spellbombs for example.
It seems you had many tough matchups. Big Mana, the mirror, Burn, E-Tron and Eldrazi are all pretty loosable. Affinity, Merfolk and Humans are the only good matchups.
Would this be the sub to discuss the Mardu Pyromancer build? I recently acquired the pieces for the deck and am looking for suggestions on piloting the deck and build tips. Was looking for a primer.
This is the spot! Unfortunately, I believe the forum head is inactive so no primer currently, but the folks here can give you a pretty good run down of whatever you're curious on.

I thought about creating a primer for Mardu Pyro, but am quite busy atm. But maybe I'll do it someday. In the meantime, what are your questions?
Do you think that the split between 1 terminate / 1 dreadbore is still worth it or do we have to play 2 terminate ?
It just depends on the expected meta you're going into. Personally, with Jeskai on the rise and Teferi making waves, it helps to improve our matchup against thay deck and planeswalkers in general and is still pretty decent creature removal, so I would run it until decks with planeswalkers are at an all time low.
So, Mardu just won the SCG Open. His list was very interesting.
The one thing that really interested me was his use of Ensnaring Bridge in the board. It makes perfect sense to me, and shores up a few matchups that we'd otherwise be weak too.

Well, I can saw a woman in two, but you won't wanna look in the box when I'm through.

I know, but I am questioning bridge as with engineered explosives, discard and wear we are not really weak to bogles imo. I try to find reasons why I should run bridge when I have EE is the thing for me.
He also mentioned that it helped against decks like RG Eldrazi and Merfolk.
EE is honestly not as effective against Bogles as I'd prefer.
And then again, MOCS Champion Butakov said EE is the nightmare card for Bogles to face. I think EE is enough for Bogles sake, Merfolk is not an argument for me honestly, as I really don't think why we should struggle against the matchup despite the fact that it sees little to no play.
RG Eldrazi might be a decent argument for trying Bridge, but I am not sure either. I feel our massive tokens line up well against their creatures minus smasher probably. But it might still be worth it.
4 Young Pyromancer
4 Inquisition of Kozilek
4 Thoughtseize
4 Faithless Looting
4 Lingering Souls

Tron is such a bad mach up that it is worth keeping 1 dreadbore mainboard for Karn & Ugin.

GY Hate primarily. Removal is not a problem.
Like which matchups?
