Mardu Pyromancer with Death's Shadow felt underpowered some times. The DS package use too many valuable slots, lowering the spell density needed to fuel Bedlam and Young Pyro.
For now, I'm back to Mardu Pyro but on a Prowess route:
I'm sticking with 2 Manamorphose, took out the Blood Moons, and put it a Noxious Revival. That's a lot of synergy with the rest of the deck: Free spell (helps Pyromancer and Mentor), feeds bedlam, you can even return a card to the just before Bedlam's trigger or Manamorphose trigger.
The Mentor is there as a threat that must be answered. Like a removal magnet.
Red should be burn, Goblins, Dragons, draw/discard, and Standard-unplayable 5CMC cards with insane, lengthy effects that take 10 minutes to figure out what they do and another 20 to actually make their effects work on the field.
Hey Gang, Finished putting together my list for Pyromancer yesterday. Went 3-1 at FNM. Trying out a one-of Chandra, mostly because I had her, and there are a ton of control decks in my LGS (You will notice based on report). Pretty happy with the deck; I crushed Humans, then lost to Jeskai Breach, and went on to beat two U/W control decks. Here's the gist:
Round 1 Humans (2-0)
Game 1 Felt like a bye; he didnt really have anything going on that would have disrupted me, and I was able to keep him off of Mantis Rider with souls and stuff. Reveler got bounced by reflector mage but I just waited a turn and cast it again. All good from there.
Game 2 was similar. Kinda gave it to em with EE on 2; ripped it off the top to kill two freebooters and got back some spells. I think Pyro wrapped it up from there. Went pretty well. (Side note: If they have Xathrid Necromancer, Try to buy time to kill that first, can make for some awkward spells/blocks)
Round 2 Jeskai Breach (0-2)
I dont even know how to describe the absolutely thorough butt-kicking I took both games. Boarded in two Brutalities, Fulminators etc. but It wasn't near enough. Surgicals never showed up either. I don't even know how to approach the matchup. Feels awful; help is appreciated.
Round 3 U/W Jace Control (2-1)
Game 1 I got locked out by a turn 6(?) Jace. Not really much to say there; my opponent played very tight and took away all of my outs.
Game 2 I managed to hit the nut of T1 Seize, T2 Pyro, Surgical extract your Verdicts, T3 Faithless looting, Flashback souls. An easy wrap up from there with close to 8 Power on board.
Game 3 was a nail biter. In fact, I think I almost punted. I had totally forgotten that Engineered Explosives says NONLAND Permanents, so My opponent swings for 4 with Colonnade, and I crack thinking that I got em. Instead I kill my Pyro tokens, leaving me with just Reveler. My opponent Plays Jace and Fateseals me, leaving it on top. I draw and its....Manamorphose? I chuckle as I Manamorph into faithless looting and flashback another souls, then smash for 6 with Reveler. Opponent untaps, bounces reveler with Jace (HUGE MISTAKE ON HIS PART, Dont think he knew what was what), and attacks with Colonnade. I untap, jam Reveler and Draw into Fulminator and Kommand. It was a wrap after that, I think I blew up his colonnade and killed his Jace, putting him in topdeck mode.
Round 4 vs U/W Miracles (2-0)
I'm going to chalk these games up to my opponent trying something new in modern, and although Terminus is definitely strong, He never saw Entreat to finish off most games. His lack of counterspells definitely cost him, as Souls was easily the MVP of the matchup. Couldn't tell you anything specific, next time I'll have to take better notes!
Only thing I noticed is that Jeskai is absolutely brutal. Maybe its just inexperience or a lack of sequencing, but I couldnt do anything in the face of Snap-Bolt and Snap-Electrolyze. Feels absolutely awful. Tips are appreciated. Cheers![/cards]
Just put a Rabblemaster or Hazoret instead of Mentor. If you need to run a plains, you are hurting the deck more than you are helping it.
Rabblemaster is only useful with a clean board and you're trying to race the enemy (Big Mana decks).
Hazoret is wonderful but I'm trying to lower the curve and endorse the main plan: generate a lot of value due to our spells density. Incrementing value over time.
If you're facing big mana decks you have to sideout a lot of cards, mostly kill spells. If you do this, Bedlam and Young Pyro becomes weaker, not impacting the board soon enough.
That's the role of Hazoret and Rabblemaster in SB. Big mana decks that don't care about my spells. Bring race cards that don't care about my spells too.
Only thing I noticed is that Jeskai is absolutely brutal. Maybe its just inexperience or a lack of sequencing, but I couldnt do anything in the face of Snap-Bolt and Snap-Electrolyze. Feels absolutely awful. Tips are appreciated. Cheers!
It is awful, indeed. We maybe need a threat that doesn' die to bolt/path...

Do we need another threat or a win con. Mogis, God of Slaughter would offer us either constant removal or 2 damage every turn perhaps this is good enough even thou it will never be a creature.
It all depends what you want from this slot weather an other swarm creature is needed or card or haste creature or industructable i dont know what the answer is...but food for thought
Against Control play Fulminator Mages and bin those Molten Rains and BMs. Play a value based game against them. Its not too hard, we have good CA sources. And Fulminator is really good vs Control.
I’m playing what I call Mardu Bedlam Rat. So I’m still on reveler but I don’t play Pyromancer I play Pack Rat instead. Have had good results so far. Going 3-0-1 and 3-1 since playing it. Here’s the list.
Mardu Bedlam Rat
Instant
1 x Kolaghan's Command
4 x Lightning Bolt
3 x Fatal Push
2 x Terminate
Planeswalker
2 x Liliana of the Veil
Enchantment
3 x Blood Moon
Legend
1 x Hazoret the Fervent
Creature
4 x Bedlam Reveler
4 x Pack Rat
Land
2 x Polluted Delta
1 x Mountain
2 x Blood Crypt
3 x Marsh Flats
4 x Swamp
4 x Bloodstained Mire
1 x Sacred Foundry
4 x Blackcleave Cliffs
Sorcery
4 x Faithless Looting
4 x Inquisition of Kozilek
2 x Thoughtseize
4 x Lingering Souls
1 x Dreadbore
So there is a bit of a proliferation of Bogles decks with 4x Leyline of Sanctity in the main in my local meta.
Has anyone got better tech than Crackling Doom for this match up? three colours is awkward but not back breaking with multiple copies of Manamorphose.
Doom seems perfect for the match up, a non targeted edict effect that always hits the largest creature. I'm thinking of sideboarding 2 copies because Bogles is such a weak match for the deck.

If you can afford it, I think Liliana is probably more general purpose and more playable in the deck. But Crackling Doom could certainly be playable.

Well, I can saw a woman in two, but you won't wanna look in the box when I'm through.

Selfeisek new list. Any opinions on Nahiri? I'm surprised he still plays 2 Helix + 2 forked, 1 dreadbore, 1 terminate, list seems weird. I'm a big fan of the pithing needles in the side.
1. If we play Bloodmoon we don't want to give the opponent a chance to search basics. Fetching for white in the first two turns also seems bad
2. 2 Black in Bloodmoon is heavy... I don't own a LotV so I can't really tell another reason
3. Some people report that bloodmoon doesn't support our own gameplan and is just in there because we have no better option against tron etc. Others say they like the one-off chance to totally kill some decks with just one cards... having the second in hand is often aweful.
4. Some people like it, some don't
5. Personal Preference... I try 2 Push, 1 Terminate, 2 Dreadbore atm but you just wanna play what your local meta demands or what you feel comfortable with.
Hey everybody!
I'm new to this deck and are about to try my first games with it.
I don't have any experience with this deck at all yet, so I got a few noob questions to get started.
1. path to exile seems not be featured in most recent decklists (saw it in lists a month ago), is that due to terminate or dreadbore not accelerating the opponent?
2. why just 1 LotV? If I look at it I'm wondering why all lists seem to run only 1 LotV main? I absolutley love this card and if I go blind towards this deck I'd feel like putting 2 or 3 in the main.
3. Blood Moon is a card i want at least twice in the maindeck, since I think its overall a great card in the meta atm. Think 3 is too much though but most decks play 1, why is that?
4. Manamorphose is a great card with pyromancer, thats for sure. But is there enough space to cut? I'm just not feeling so sure about this card.
5. I'd feel like playing Terminate or Dreadbore way over Push, since i think it might get hard to trigger revolt for push if we play ourself Bloodmoon main, I dont have a full decklist yet but is 2-2 too much?
Thanks everybody!
1) We are a midrange-to-control deck, we don't want to ramp our opponent and we don't run into too many things that can't be terminated/dreadbore'd.
2) Liliana is not a card we rely on, she's just a goodstuff card that can regain a lot of tempo as we force our opponent to deal with her. When we're behind topdecking her can put us at parity. When we're ahead she can close it out.
3) Blood Moon is pretty much the opposite of Lily. It's a horrible topdeck that doesn't save us when we're behind and rarely finishes the game when we're ahead. If it comes down later than turn 3 it's effectively a blank, and in many times even a turn 3 BM doesn't really affect many opponents. About the only deck it actually does something against is scapeshift. (No it doesn't affect tron, we can't assemble enough threats to win before they just hardcast karns and eldrazi off 7-8 lands.) It's no longer worth consideration.
4) Manamorphose is to this deck what street wraith is to death's shadow and gitaxian probe was to storm. It effectively makes us play with a 56 card deck, it fixes mana for weird situations (having only 1 red source but needing to cast FLooting and Bolt) and more often than not should draw into another spell to cast.
5) One thing so many people miss is that you can cast push whenever as long as there's a creature in play - it reads "Destroy target creature IF it's CMC..." - if you need exactly 1 more point of damage or 1 more blocker, push your own bedlam reveler or or opponent's fatty. It also kills manlands, all sizes of tarmogoyf/death's shadow, snapcaster, and several others. That said we only have room for 5 hard removal spells, with jace being unbanned it's been preferred to play 2 terminate, 1 push and 2 dreadbore (but don't be afraid to have 1-2 more in the board as needed)

Aha, forgot that. Makes sense. Doom might be the best option, then.
WotC pls reprint Innocent Blood in Standard...
Vona's Hunger is probably your best option.
Other cards to consider are: Fleshbag Marauder/Merciless Executioner, Oath of Liliana and even Smallpox.
