Hollow One matchup is awful. They are quicker than us, they don't care about blood moon, and can often play Hollow One(s) or Gurmag Angler off of only 1 or 2 lands. Our sideboard is hit and miss - Anger is great Vs. Souls, Adept, Bloodghast, and Phoenix but embarrassing against Angler and Hollow One. Trinisphere is amazing against their enablers and Hollow One but does nothing powerful enough against Angler and the rest. Grudge and Artifact hate suffer from the same polarization.
Humans match up is pretty swingy. In most game states they are favoured. The states in which we are favoured are those that involve a fast Inferno Titan, or the specific, low-probability scenario that involves them having neither Noble Heirarch or Aether Vial, and us having a t2 Moon. P&K is also great in the MU but humans have this unfortunate tendency to get to 3 toughness quickly, which blanks her shocks.
Jeskai Control is still a very favourable match-up.
Anyone running maindeck Abrade(s) in place of bolt(s) to hit Aether Vials? Feels like it could be the right play to run at least one, maybe with a roast in the side to swap it with so we can hit Anglers, Tasigurs, Goyfs, and other larger creatures in non-Vial decks?

Yeah, I run 1 MD Abrade, no Bolts. Also 1 Mizzium Mortars.
Looking at other Blood moon decks, what is the reason that we run 4 of the card? All other Blood Moon decks currently (aside from Mono Red Prison lists) only play 3, sometimes 2.
Despite the ability to ramp into Blood Moon sooner, having other means of land disruption, and having pretty significant card advantage, why has the general consensus settled on 4 Blood Moons over, say we start with 3?
I'm specifically considering cutting a Blood Moon slot to get the 8th Rain.
My thinking is that we want T2 land disruption, but once we get the first Blood Moon down, the others can feel really bad. Sure sometimes its nice to have a second in hand against a thoughtseize, but I usually wish it was just more LD.
I get that Blood Moon is a persisting effect and the sorceries are not, but the sorceries also permanently keep the opponent behind on land, and are never a blank G1 against decks full of basics.
Seems like a decent list. Nissa can be good to great, but I'd cut her to run 1 if any, especially since you've cut half the reasons to have her in your deck (Kitchen Finks / Pia and Kiran Nalaar). What matchup are you bringing in P/K for, and what's the logic for running it in your sideboard?
I like MB Sweltering Suns, haven't seen that yet. I'd consider it if my meta was rich in hyper-aggro decks like 8whack.
Knowing nothing about your meta, I would go:
MB
-1 Nissa
+1 Pia and Kiran Nalaar
-1 Forest
+1 Misty Rainforest
SB
-1 Obstinate Baloth
-1 Chandra (or the SB Pia and Kiran)
+2 Kitchen Finks
Multani, being a 6cmc card, competes with Inferno Titan. Inferno Titan has an ETB Trigger, is a mana sink, and clears the board. I would need a very convincing reason to run anything other than Wurmcoil Engine over Inferno Titan at that cmc in this deck. Multani specifically doesn't have enough synergy with our deck, doesn't have an ETB trigger, isn't harder to remove, and while it has Trample/Reach, those are mostly nice to haves stapled to an otherwise overly conditional finisher that we have a hard time setting up effectively. If only we could get a Terravore reprint...
Thanks for that ! I've been playing the deck for sometime now but that was definitely enjoyable to read and realized I've been overlooking a couple utility cards to fight my meta.
On a similar note, I just recalled there was a premium article on SCG people were talking about a while back about ponza. Does anyone know if that article is free to read now / have a link ?
Tron is a strong matchup. If they are used to playing against Ponza it is only a good matchup.
UWx normally is a good matchup that turns into a great matchup with sideboard (I've run Boil, Choke, and Thrun at times) A few card choices on their end can swing it closer to even such as: Spreading Seas and Wrath over Verdict.
How do you guys feel about the cards coming from M19?
Runic Armasaur 1GG
Creature - Dinosaur
Whenever an opponent activates an ability from a creature or a land that is not a mana ability, you may draw a card.

Well it might pay off against opponents with fetches, but I think I'd rather have run Harsh Mentor and increased my clock. At 3 cmc you're up against tireless tracker for the creature slots, its a pretty tough fight. Tracker really carries some weight there.

I'll be testing Sarkhan, Fireblood in a Ponza shell with Dragon threats - Stormbreath Dragon, Thunderbreak Regent, Chameleon Colossus, Scourge of Valkas, maybe Glorybringer, I dunno. So we'd have a dragon that provides pseudo protection, a pro-black, a pro-white, and 2 creature-removal threats. Your god-hand would be something like T1 arbor T2 sprawl into BBE cascade into Sarkhan, filter a card. Untap, if you make a land drop you have 7 mana at your disposal, you could cast one of the 4 cmc dragons while hitting a land or dropping a moon.
I actually feel a little giddy thinking about it. Decks like ours have no business doing multiple big things that early.

This is the only Build of any deck outside Commander I can see Sarkhan being played in. He's still too slow at reaching his ult for a guy with no way to affect the Board, but at least his ramp AND his filter are incredibly useful here.
Hi
I'm buy ponza recently and I have not played with it yet.
I come from a few months playing just jund moon and burn.
I would like a help with sb, the list I Want to play is the "traditional" without changes.
I need help mainly because I do not have trinisphere, do I really need it?
my idea of side:
2 Ooze
2 Damping Sphere
2 Kitchen Finks
2 Ancient Grudge
1 Beast Within Or Reclamation sage?
3 Anger of the Gods
1 Obstinated Baloth
1 Thragtusk
1 Crumble to dust
My meta:
Valakut - a Lot
Burn
Jund and abzan
Tron
Storm
Humans
Bw Tokens(terrible match for my jund, lol)
Folk
I used to play ponza before the unbanning of Bloodbraid Elf, and decided, after playing the deck as is, to change it towards BBE build.
Looking at this thread, this is what I have so far :
I have some questions about the numbers on some cards, such as Abrade, Primal Command and Sweltering Suns.
In theory, I guess Abrade is pretty good against human and hollow one, but anyone has some experience with it ?

I wouldn't play Damping Sphere, it is only really good against Tron, which is an already good matchup. I feel the same about Crumble to Dust, it's targeted at either Valakut or Tron, and both are ok.
You can probably add Boil or Choke if you feel you might face some blue decks. Trinisphere is really good against storm. You might want to add Grafdigger's cage if they play CoCo.
Considering your Metagame, I think the hardest matchup is Humans, for which there isn't really a good card.
Second the above, except to say Choke is probably better than boil, and that while UWx is generally favored for us, UR Moon is not, so its worth running a choke for them.
Also, for Humans, Torpor Orb is great. Unfortunately it hoses PKN and Inferno Titan ETB triggers though.
I've seen a few lists experimenting with Scooze or Stormbreath over PKN, and I can't really get behind it. The ability to machinegun clues while growing your tracker is too good. If it weren't for their being legendary I'd run 3. I'm actually still tempted to go up to 3 anyways, its just hard to cut anything for it.
