i'm playing 3 sweepers main (anger+2 bonfires), 2 sb(angers). also sweltering suns seems maindeckable instead of anger, but i haven't any.
without them 1st game against go-wide decks is bad, and even if you win the second one, third game will be on the draw, and sometimes in my opinion we are too slow for it. so i prefer to have a chances in game 1 in cost of having dead draws g1 against some other decks
This is similar to what I run, except different sweepers: 3 MB (2 Mortars + 1 Bonfire) & 2 SB Angers.
I switched from Bonfires to Mortars and it has been excellent. Interacting on turn 2 or being able to board wipe on 6 mana is the flexibility that can grind out a few extra percentage points.
The inconsistency is real! Lol. I tested it last night against a friend of mine who runs and BUG control list and out of 4 games I lost only 1 but I was not sure what hands were bad yet so I just kept starting 7 every time (every hand I had at least 1 land Sprawl or dork and a 3 drop except 1 hand was 3 lands and a couple of 3 drops.)
I already think I am going to change the list up some. I like 1 Courser but 2 might be wrong. I enjoyed the first one and drew the 2nd which felt like a dead card. So I may switch out 1 for another Titan or Stormbreath. I need to play test waaaaaaaaaaay more.
I don’t remember how to post a decklist but my current list is:
8 Forest
1 Mountain
1 Kessig Wolf Run
3 Stomping Ground
1 Cinder Glade
4 Windswept Heath
4 Wooded Foothills
You should run pia. Old hydra bro is a card I'm not a fan of though. Too pushable. And too many decks don't care about it.
Our best threats are imo
The best ones
Tracker
Pia and Kiran Nalaar
Huntmaster
Stormbae
Inferno titan
Wurmcoil engine
Chandra, torch of bae
Other decent ones tht are more meta dependant
Swagtusk
Chameleon colossus
Scavenging ooze
Dragonlord Attarka
Thunderbreak regent
Goblin dark dwellers (as a build around)
Thinking of buying this deck for Christmas - already have the important pieces at my SCG shopping cart.
Just one question to the residents of this thread. I notice that Stone Rain is used by several lists... but is it possible to use Molten Rain instead of Stone Rain? Is getting double R hard for this deck in the early turns? Thanks.
its not worth it. 2 damage is not very relevant, we still need a big beater to end the game, but the second red can be problematic. also with blood moon you'll want to kill mostly basics.

I'm always changing up my list, but I often run two Molten Rain alongside the set of Stones. You definitely don't want to run Moltens in place of Stone, but it's not unusual to see a few copies played in various pilots' builds. It's true that we normally want to hit basics with our LD, but that's still possible with Moltens; you just don't get to deal 2 dmg to the face, effectively making it a Stone Rain that costs 1RR rather than 2R. I've rarely found the cmc to be problematic, however, I still play with birds and that helps, but I know that some lists have moved away from them.
This deck seems to have changed a lot in the last month. What has caused the move towards mid-range creature builds? I am a big fan of the Huntsmaster inclusion however I must say. Just seems odd that most people appear to be running less land destruction, less control, and more creatures. I always saw this as a very control orientated deck, is that still the case?

Double red can be tough on turn 2, and the damage molten rain causes generally either costs us 2 damage (to shock for the double red) or is literally heling our opponent with all the deaths shadow builds

Going wide and presenting blockers is great against shadow and other midrange decks. It's about disrupting their curve then playing a hard to deal with threat early.
Ok, thanks for the replies.
I only have Stormbreaths, Titans, and Thragtusks as threats for now - have no more extra funds to buy the expensive Chandra. Will use what I have to practice with the deck. Modern land destruction is something new to me, and this deck looks fun.
Do you find Pia and Kiran Nalaar useful in any match that isn't the Deathshadow one? They seem to be very useful for giving you a couple of turns, but otherwise I can't quite see their usefulness in comparison to the other 4 drops the deck runs. What am I missing?
Pia and Kiran are solid against Affinity, too, as far as Tier 1 matchups. Plus they close the quite quickly (can do six damage with a swing/sac thopters). Also combo nicely with Tracker clue tokens.
However, it's also a meta call. If you are running Primal Command, one is usually fine. I prefer Huntmaster as a 4-drop though.
They stall the board. Beat 1 for 1 removal, are a removal spell, team up great with tracker, and just control the board in general by makeing your opponents combat maths a nightmare.
3-1 last night at modern. 2-0 vs Thop sword, 2-0 vs Tezzretor, 1-2 vs Blue moon and 2-0 vs Tron
Game 1 against blue moon I was burried in cryptics and snaps, game 2 turn 3 Thrun settled things pretty quick. Game 3 I put him down to 4 and I was on 7, but I had 3 huge ground creatures( 2 trackers and a baloth) and no fliers. He had 4 1/1 elementals, 2 thops, 2 torrential gearhulks, and was getting in with thops. I knew i was dead to a bolt or some such so I just did what I could with the trackers to draw ANYTHING that would change the outcome of a race. I had a moon and my opponent only had 1 island (which is why I kept 3 moons in) and it turned out he had no counterspells. A stormbreath or Pia and Kira would have been lethal, Inferno titan would have been lethal in my next turn, Baloth would have swung my life total, same with primal command. But instead the 7 cards I drew over 2 turns before he killed me were 3 land, a relic, 2 utopia sprawls and an Arbor elf:(
Other than that cancerous piece of variance a good night over all.
Long time lurker, first time poster. Just want some advice. I'm running more of a planeswalker theme with my ponza deck.
I'm using fiery conclusion which works well with all the dorks. Fiery conclusion: Instant, Sac a creature, deal 5 damage to target creature. I've tried mizzium mortars but I feel like 4 to 5 damage is a lot better especially with tasigur and angler around. Any opinions?
I'm running Pia, Xenagos, Garruk, Chandra, inferno and storm breath as my big boys!
Also anyone tried a 1 of Harmonize? The card draw would be nice.

Welcome aboard. First, are you confusing Fiery Confluence with another card? Confluence isn't Modern legal as it was printed in Commander '15. Second, if you're set on the Planeswalker theme then you might be more interested in playing Double Moon Walkers; the deck shares a lot of the same cards with Ponza minus the LD and big threats in favor of early Planeswalker win cons via Oath of Nissa & Doubling Season
Thanks Joban. I edited the post. I was meaning fiery conclusion, my bad. There's plenty of sac outlets, unneeded dorks, pia, Xenagos and garruk tokens.
I will have to go check that out the walker deck. My main problem right now seems to be getting over ran. I have anger in the sideboard but it kills my dorks and can leave me stranded on mana.
I might try a more control version with hour of devastation and harmonize. I only play on mtgo
