One card in fate reforged has got me into rebuilding this deck: monastery mentor. They say if you can get 8x of the same card (with young pyro) you can have a consistent deck. It even triggers upon casting seismic assault, and it is very good with flame jab + loam (and flame jab seems good right now with delver everywhere). Thoughts?
Yep Naya with Commune to the gods , mentor and YP will be sweet. I just pray that cruise and dig get banned. Really the entire meta is going to be based around if they get banned. If they don't no point in not having blue for them.
i'm at work right now. so i can't really type down a good mana base.
The knight might be good to mana screw your opponent. the Knight can fetch your LD lands and then you can go for their mana every turn. maybe they deck should even run a crucible in the SB for better mana recursion
i only spent 5 mins on making this list. But i wanted to know if it was something like that?
I'd change 1 Assault for 1 Commune, since tutoring creatures adds great value to the deck while digging for loam. Knight looks good there, but might be slow (same as Coutryside Crusher on RG lists). Anyway, it has a great upside.
Personally I liked the idea of running a build with delver and swiftspear using rough/tumble. Which mentor could still survive from especially if you add flame jab at least a couple of his tokens would survive as well
Just a light white and green splash as you can see. Mutagenic growth seems really good, it can save both monks from bolt, which is the most played card right now, and it saves our team from pyroclasm, which we should expect. It also saves our raging ravine from a well timed bolt.
Couldn't fit path to exile, i just figured assault would do the job for big guys. Still i'd like to play a couple but can't decide on what to cut for them.
4 jabs because it is a beating with any of our creatures, I've been playing darkblast in my doran deck an it is excellent so i figured flame jab would be great as well.
I'm skeptic about commune with the gods, is it really reliable with only 16 targets?
Don't know if I would run the growth or the swiftspears.
And I think I would cut one or two jabs. The thing with assault or at least what I think. Is that if you relay to heavyly on killing creatures with the assault, your not going to kill your opponent. It's better to pack removal and then help with the assault. But mainly go for the face with it.
If you play commune with the gods it not only finds creatures and assault but digs you to flame jab and dumps lands into your years. I definitely think it's a fine for and I might drop an assault, a flame jab and a mentor to start.
8-rack seems a good deal more popular than this deck. I've seen it at the local shop and heard about it elsewhere at least, also I have it mostly built and have played it a bit. Seems like a good matchup to me, at least for my GR build. You can just play out of the graveyard and refill your hand with Loam to avoid the Rack. Manlands, burn, and Seismic are all great against Lily. It's tough if they keep Seismic off the board with discard and maybe Abrupt Decay, but it doesn't seem like a bad matchup to me.
I will note though that I haven't played against Waste Not yet.

The 8-rack I played against had maindeck Surgical Extractions, which were very effective.
That considered, the matchup should feel a lot like a race - but Waste Not kinda changes everything. I highly suggest you playtest Assault-Loam against it, could be relevant for this matchup evaluation.
ok so this is my current version, only r/g for now, when FRF comes out i'll change some lands and turn guttersnipes into monastery mentor. Still i think much value can come from guttersnipe, and it can be protected from bolt with growth as well.
I'm considering stoke the flames in the main. Seems good with tokens, just play a bunch of spells then stoke for free. Also it can kill deceiver exarchs if needed, and you can trick your twin opponent by leaving a few or no mana open and then just convoke it for a blowout.
I strongly advise you to drop at least 1 Flame Jab - the card is good, but it's a lackluster in multiples. I'd play 2 or 3.
I get the idea of obtaining value with Mutagenic Growth, but doesn't the deck lack some CA/dig effects? At least I don't think 4 Looting are enough.
Interested to hear how everyone is doing with testing Monastery Mentor. I have just played about a dozen games so far and changed up a few things so I'm still brainstorming, but it seems pretty impressive so far. I like it a lot better than Young Pyromancer (biased against it for some reason, just a bit too fragile - the type of card I like to beat rather than play). Here's my Naya list as it stands:
I do have a sideboard but it's so early in testing, plus who knows what will happen with the ban decision so I'll leave that out for now. Currently testing Dangerous Wager and Ajani, those are the most flexible slots (3 Path to Exile might be better). I like having a maindeck sweeper and usually run Anger of the Gods but Pyroclasm is obviously much better with Mentor, and might just be better anyway. This is less lands than I usually like to run and especially less man-/utility-lands, but Mentor is probably worth it.
Who else is testing Mentor? Constructive criticism/thoughts (4 Assault/Loam isn't going anywhere )?
hey i think this would be the true direction of the deck the deck, i really think dredge unburial rights is the way to go, there are so many combos that can race your opponents and force them to play into your schemes. i just took 3 modern tournys in my area 2-0 each round. i dont net deck but i wanted to see if my deck was on here and i guess this would be the forum. but i dont know how to post with the list. even with bad hands its truly beast... the point is to dredge as much as you can till you get combo pieces in the yard. while bieng able to flashback creatures.. dont be afraid to flashback aka unburial rights a knight. it can be quite nasty. stinkweed imp hoses most if not all big creatures that come early. and he can come back each turn for you to peck off creatures. but he dredges at the same time so you can fill your yard to get your combos out. and courser with dredge... is just love.... sun titan really is key. brings back a seismic ass, a creature, a sideboard card. a land so you can have protection or trample or graveyard hate. all in all great.... and knights... omg... knights will be your savior. adds mana when they think your tapped out. adds mana so you can get reach. reaches for tech cards. is a huge monster... just great overall for the deck. and birds.. yes birds can block... but kessig ftw!!! anyway... all in all ive been editing this deck for like a year and i found this forum and was amazed that people found this deck idea just as great as i did. again.... 2-0.. 3x times.. even graveyard hate can be played around... its nasty.. truly nasty.

Okay so with cruise and such gone blue is done. Its back to a Jund version, which could be decent in this meta. Naya is also a possibility with mystic mentor coming out. Card seems strong against junk which is the new pod.
Yep Naya with Commune to the gods , mentor and YP will be sweet. I just pray that cruise and dig get banned. Really the entire meta is going to be based around if they get banned. If they don't no point in not having blue for them.

Of course, it's a bad matchup [RG version], but I managed to steal 2 wins thanks to Young Pyromancer, giving me wincons through Surgical Extraction->Seismic Assault and Tarmogoyf. It was crazy.
Early Waste Not looks unbeatable.
I will note though that I haven't played against Waste Not yet.

I really hate his mana cost @3, but for his effect and otherwise for longer grindy games he is nuts.
