I am trying to pull together a Jund list that uses Eidolon of the Great Revel and Hooting Mandrills instead of the regular beaters. Still very much a work in progress but I feel like it could be a good new take on it
revel is the best card in modern right noe but its a nonbo with the whole deck. but yes if you arent using a new delve card you are gimping yourself. I like 2 or 3 mandrils potentially
Tombstalker is still probably the best delve creature available if you wanted to go that route. Fiend is probably a close second, however, with assault loam we really are more focused on getting assault online and using some retrace spells to abuse life from the loam as much as possible. In the RuG lists treasure cruise is definitely a great add. For the Jund lists, tombstalker is definitely the best option if you want to delve a creature onto the battlefield.
I was considering retooling RUG Loam for use with Treasure Cruise. I'll have to get a list together and give it a spin. I really don't like the idea of Eidolon of the Great Revel in a Loam deck. Games usually end up being grindy. Eidolon is a game shortening card. I can only seeing that being more hindering than helpful. I second everyone else's opinion that Tombstalker is better than Hooting Mandrils in a Jund list.
I'm thinking if you wanted to build with cruise that running commune with the gods could be a decent dig card that helps turn on cruise. It's what? 4 cards in the bin when all is said and done
Edit: 5 cards including the commune that goes to the bin. You have essentially paid for the cruise at that point.

Tombstalker is better than Hooter, but he is harder to cast. 6 delve vs 5 delve and BB vs G. There is no way Necrop Fiend is better than Hooting Mandrills. I think I might try something like 3 Hooters and 1 Tombstalker. Has anyone tried Pack Rat as a beater?

I've played a few games with it on cockatrice, and having Eidolon and Seismic Assault online at the same time is really really good. Even if you take 2 dmg to loam each turn your damage potential is huge.

I was thinking about Commune with the build I mentioned since it can grab Eidolon or Seismic Assault while filling the yard. Definitely worth trying.
I really don't like eidolon in the build. I can definitely understand why it would be in there, but I don't think I would actually try it. Fiend would allow us additional removal, has flying as well and is still a 4/5 so it can wreck a goyf which is important. Mandrills really just doesn't get around goyf or thrun which are my main concerns for it. I really think stalker and fiend are your best options, but I do understand why you like the mandrills for it's lower delve cost.
Commune I think seems nuts with treasure cruise. End of opponents turn 2, 5 in bin or more if we used fetchlands, discard spells etc., then turn 3 cruise for U. Seems pretty solid. Not sure if I would want to stick with a RuG build or go 4 color just using a small splash for cruise. I think jund with a watery grave and a steam vents is the route I would take to run treasure cruise.
This is what I had in mind. If life was a huge worry I would probably switch probe for bolt, but I feel like this deck could race. If I am in an aggro match up, probably switch the pyros out for rough/tumble.
That RUG build looks pretty fun, I'd probably run some Bolts and reduce the Faithless as I don't think you need 4 FL and 3 Commune. Definitely want some removal main deck beside flame jab. I dont have any blue fetches shocks, or filters otherwise I'd try a list like that too
The problem with Fiend is that if you delve him in for a lot, you will not be able to use his ability much.
Here's the list I'm trying, still very raw. I know you guys think I'm crazy but I really want to play Eidolon in a non burn deck and I think this has potential.
I feel like your list seems very aggressive. I am just not really sure how great eidolon would be. I suppose if you were dredging a ton and used removal like murderous cut, or cards that are higher than 3 mana to hit your opponents creatures that you would be better off. At the moment you have 5 creatures that don't shock you because you casted them. The reason I wanted to include faithless looting is because it is additional cards to essentially mill into a treasure cruise in the event that I don't have the commune. It also allows me to dig towards a seismic assault earlier. It I went turn 1 looting, turn 2 commune I am not at 8 cards deep including my draw for turn. That is a very significant dig down into my deck to find assault and really get myself ready to take control of the game quickly. But I do agree that lightning bolt would possibly be better in the looting spot. When I get the chance to start testing, I will test both.
I think your list is interesting, hovercraft. I have tested Eidolon a bit in GR and think it's fine but they aren't in my deck currently. Perhaps also consider Scavenging Ooze, I recently added one and may add another as a maindeckable anti-delve tool. My personal take on that list might be -2 Eidolon -2 Ghor-Clan -1 Mandrils +2 Scavenging Ooze +1 Seismic Assault +1 Life from the Loam +1 Flame Jab. Make sure you at least test -4 Eidolon +4 Swiftspear though. I will throw out a "crazy" idea too though I haven't tested it yet. I was thinking about how I could change my deck to hate on Delver/Treasure Cruise decks in case they are all over the place and I was thinking it might be worth giving Chalice of the Void a chance. Brainstorming:
I was planning on playing Scooze in the sideboard, but I'll consider him for the main. Chalice can be sweet, especially if you get it out T1 with Spirit guide
and in terms of list being aggressive, that's what I am aiming for. I am going to try to play a modern tourny with this or a similar list this week. I'll report back after
Chalice seems interesting in your list. I'm pretty iffy on it. Have you tested at all? I guess my concern is even though you have the gone half of dead and gone I am wondering if searing blaze may be better for you as it is removaland 3 to the face considering you can most likely get landfall at any point you want to cast it.
Yeah like I said it was just a brainstormed list I haven't tested yet, a thought excersize. You're right I would take out Dead//Gone. Just hoping to stumble on a deck that hates on Treasure Cruise decks!
Definitely. I hope you test blaze instead of dead and gone, it seems like the better option. But I like the idea behind your build. Spirit guide could help drop an early assault which can be nice.
Hi there, my name is Matt and i was working on a deck a while ago that was similar to these ones so i thought id give it a post here and see what people think.
To give some background,
I created this deck based on wanting a knight deck. I saw a few knights that looked very promising and then saw this card!
This can combo to destroy anyone that runs very few basic lands. so that is 2 combo's that i thought went together very well
Now, to continue on
I was looking at hands that i drew with these type of cards in the deck and noticed that i had no cards in hand after a few turns which is good for the deck but i was loosing a lot because they had full hands, so i thought, discard could be key, then these cards became important.
Edit: 5 cards including the commune that goes to the bin. You have essentially paid for the cruise at that point.

That's just one idea as a GR player, not sure how Jund or RUG Assault players would build it.

To give some background,
I created this deck based on wanting a knight deck. I saw a few knights that looked very promising and then saw this card!
Haakon, Stromgald Scourge
This changed the color of the deck to have black in it, but i was still having an issue casting him...
then i thought of just playing him from the graveyard and a friend explained the insane combo of:
Haakon, Stromgald Scourge and Nameless Inversion
Life from the Loam and Ghost Quarter and Raven's Crime
This can combo to destroy anyone that runs very few basic lands. so that is 2 combo's that i thought went together very well
I was looking at hands that i drew with these type of cards in the deck and noticed that i had no cards in hand after a few turns which is good for the deck but i was loosing a lot because they had full hands, so i thought, discard could be key, then these cards became important.
Liliana of the veil and Raven's Crime and inquisition of kozilek and thoughtseize

4 courser of kruphix
4 Life from the loam
4 Raven's Crime
4 Smallpox

Synergy with Haakon, Stromgald Scourge:
Knight of the Reliquary
Removal:
Abrupt Decay and Damnation and darkblast and flame jab
