I had rough day at a pptq. 54 people for 6 rounds but I dropped after receiving my second loss in round three. I had land issues in both deciding games of my losses. The deck still played hella well besides those two games.
Round 1 vs Bushwhacker Zoo L 1-2
Game 1 He was on the play and we went back an fourth for a bit until he finally got me. Game 2 I answer all his creatures early and won the long game. Game 3 I had a couple bolts to slow down his start but I only drew lands and the game was over pretty quick.
Round 2 vs Grixis Shadow W 2-0
Game 1 he did a fair amount of damage to himself and I was able to finish him off with a Geist attack and bolt to the face. The mainboard Negate and a timely path helped seal everything up. Game 2 was a longer game but he didn’t have enough to kill all three of my colonnades. After dwindling him down with some burn, I was able to finish him with a couple colonnade attacks.
Round 3 vs RG Ponza L 0-2
I had bolts for his dorks early and countered his first Blood Moon but the second one ended it. I didn’t draw any basics or fetches in between the two Blood Moons. Game 2 I mulliganed a no land hand into a two land hand with a Serum Visions but I never saw another land the whole game.
The deck was great. After running Spirebluff Canals for the last couple months, I switched back to Sulfur Falls for today and I plan on keeping it that way. Untapped lands after your third can be pretty crucial. It is a Snapcaster and Cryptic deck so untapped lands play a huge part. Playing two Mana Leaks was also great. I wanted better turn two plays and they were the answer. The first Vendilion Clique over the third Geist was also a new choice for today and I liked it. Saw a Geist as often as I wanted to. Even though it wasn't the most successful day, I would run this 75 again without any hesitation.
Hello. I was surprised to find this thread in the Developing Competitive section with the number of finishes for it online and at events. In any case, I was wondering how most Geist pilots sideboard against Eldrazi Tron.
All the good finishes with the deck list them as Jeskai Control. That thread got moved up. This is the thread that has had the similar build to the good finishes since forever. Hopefully we can at least get pinned the the top of this section.
@lynii - I would ditch the Blessed Alliance for another Runed Halo. How's the Batterskull treating you?
Halo is definitely reasonable.
Its more like path to exile than leyline of sanctity in that matchup, but it cleanly answers cards like reality smasher, thought-knot, and walking ballista.
All on one, 2cmc card.
Sometimes you have to slap it down early, and sometimes you'll "guess wrong" for their first threat, but if the game goes long enough, they are likely to draw the named card at some point.
It also answers every single copy, which is nice.

The named creature can still block, though, so Runed Halo doesn't help your geist get through in the way a removal spell would. And Ballista can still ping your creatures.
That is definitely true.
In decks playing a lot of creatures like that, its possible that runed halo isn't a card you should be playing at all.
If your wincon is something like secure the wastes, then halo is going to do a lot more for you.
I'm more into dusk / dawn, engineered and staticaster in those lists, as they don't kill our creatures. I guess pyroclasm can work against swarm with queller's 3 toughness.

Supreme Verdict can be a nice emergency out to have against creature heavy decks that either have a risk of going too wide for our point removal or too big/resilient for our bolts, like against Eldrazi,Death's Shadow, Affinity, Merfolk, Zoo, white weenie, elves and other Company-decks, Merfolk, BGx, Bogles, maybe Living end.
I have not been around in long time but i wanted to talk about the deck a bit. I'm going to the SCG Open in Charlotte, NC come October. I am most likely going to go with this version of the deck. The only real difference in my deck compared to the "normal" ones is that I'm running the full set of Geist of Saint Traft and a Vendilion Clique in the main.
I have not tested Opt yet, but does anyone have data on how much better the instant speed is or how much worse the 1 scry is? Opt obviously plays way better with snap and we can almost be full flash/instant deck.
Does anyone have any spicy cards they been playing with? I know GreatNate is playing(testing?) a Runed Halo in the main and 1 in the side.
"BEHOLD MORTAL, AS I SUMMON THE MIGHT OF DIVINI-"
"oop, presto change-o! It's a duck now!"
"I...but...divine..."
"Nope"
"But it's a god!"
"No it's a duck. You have a duck now"
"*weeps silently*"
"quack quack!"
Uhhhh, question guys, why on earth is this a tier 3 deck, the geist decks that Great Nate has been playing is the tier 1 decks that's been doing well in the tournaments and on mtgo. Meanwhile, the tier 2 jeskai thread is playing all sorts of jeskai decks

Seriously, what gives?
I don't think we can call the deck Tier 1 at the moment (don't think it has a big enough meta share), but we should at least be bumped to 2.

The aggro decks are your good matchups, midrange decks are fair and very skill intensive, and big mana decks are the struggle.
