There are several changes since my last GP. I've removed 2 Sulfur Falls and the Seachrome Coast and added in 2 Spirebluff Canal and an Irrigated Farmland. This adds potential tapped lands but increases my number of T1 blue sources from the previous list.
I've swapped an Anger of the Gods for a Supreme Verdict as I expect much less low to the ground zoo type decks than before. I've cut a Remand to go up to the full 4 Mana Leak as I think the card is slightly worse right now than before but still fills a crucial spot for T2 tempo/disruption. I've cut the 3rd Lightning Helix in place of Castout. This card is very good. Cycle it when the match-up is incorrect, otherwise this sidesteps Abrupt Decay and Inquisition and lets you hold mana up and avoid tapping out. In the sideboard I'm leaning more heavily on Geist as I anticipate more unfair matchups in Kobe and it also works fine against control. Upped the EE count as it's not only a versatile sideboard all-star but it cleans up Death's shadows and Tarmogoyfs, affinity, elves, etc quite well. Added Ajani Vengeant. I wanted to keep my life gain spells at the same 4 count I had previously and this card also can come in for a lot of matchups.
Overall, I like the list and feel good about playing it in a couple weeks.
I'd try a couple of Stony Silence in the side. Great against Affinity, Tron, Ad Nauseam, Tezzeret, Krark-Clan combo etc.
I was thinking about this and I don't know where I'd fit them if I played them. There aren't a ton of decks in my meta right now that are hosed by Stony Silence, so I don't necessarily think I need them. If I ever expect more Affinity or Tron though, I always make room for 1-2.
i think electrolyse isn t a good choice in the meta right now. rarley u get 3 for one and often times i go for 2 to the face and cantrip. i ve found the card very slow. cryptic command proof to be more relvant in my match ups and more versatile.it cost 1 mana more but often times i remand t2 or t3 or kill somthing and have than cryptic backup.
I've actually done a lot of thinking when it comes to Electrolyze and the current meta, and I think 1 is absolutely correct. Affinity is one of the most played decks and Electrolyze is a house against them. It's also great against the CoCo decks. Also, and most importantly, the cantrip is HUGE on that card. It's important to keep up card velocity. But I don't think I would play anymore than 1 at the moment.

Just to let you know, there's another thread for UWr Control/Nahiri. I'll talk about anything UWr all day long cuz I love it, but it's possible the mods and other users would prefer it to be kept in that thread.
all you say is right :D. electrolyse is a realy good card, and i think in your list it is on the right place. it comes down to the whole deck construciton, if u need it or dont. so it isnt, like i said, bad in the meta. but in my list i don t see why i need it and until now i didn t miss the card. i got a izzet staticaster in the side for affinity 2 stony silince and maby engineered explosives and also 12 spotremoval main(snapcaster not counted). for the coco matchup i got 4 sweepers + izzet staticaster and dispel, if needed.
i mean there are different flavors of coco decks, but do you play more the tempo variation of the deck or the controly variant after sideboard ?
antoher question is: i never sideboarded enegineered explosives, when i also sideboarded stony silince for affinity ? is this the right descision or would you side both and hope that the cards come to the right time :)?
Control v. tempo post board matters on the matchup in my opinion. Like against Burn I'm the control deck but against Tron I'm all out aggro/tempo.
I think you absolutely bring in EE against Affinity even with Stony Silence getting brought in. It's another way to kill Etched Champion, which is really important.
ah, yeah of course. in some matches it is clear, if you play the aggro part or the control part. but it some matches you can probably play both roles and often its important to guess on which sideboard plan is your opponent. the question was for the coco match up
Round 1: Dredge
Game 1, Dredge did what they want to do and I lost. Game 2 I played a turn 2 Rest in Peace followed by a backup turn 3 Rest in Peace and he just couldn't ever come back from it. Game 3 was very back and forth. I saw both of my RiPs, he hit the first with a Nature's Claim and I drew the second a few turns after. Spell Queller did work in being able to counter his spells when he actually cast them, as well as providing a bit of a clock. I fought through quite a few Stinkweed Imps, but eventually got the win.
Round 2: RG Valakut
I mulled to 5 Game 1, which should tell you how well that game went. He cast a Prime Time something like 6 times, with 5 of them eating a counterspell of some form and one resolving, which basically spelled my doom. Game 2 I was able to play a Geist on turn 3 and just bashed as fast as possible. Game 3 he domed me for 18 at one point and I was just super dead.
Round 3: Sultai Shadow
My opponent lead off on Watery Grave untapped, pass, so I put him on Grixis Control or Shadow. He played a Thought Scour at the end of my turn and cycled a Street Wraith. Eventually he played a Misty Rainforest, So I figured he was on Sultai Control or Shadow. I played a Geist as fast as I could and clocked him quickly. Same thing happened in Game 2 for the most part.
Round 4: Brave Sir Robin (4c Retreat)
Game 1 I kept a hand of something like 3 lands, double Bolt, Helix and some other card. Him leading on turn 1 Birds of Paradise was perfect for that hand. I played a Geist and started cracking in, getting him down to 4 before he handled it by blocking with a Courser (totally forgot that that creature was a 2/4). Ended up just Bolting him dead. Game 2 he basically picked me up by my ankles and threw me around a bit, absolutely stomping me. Game 3 went much the same as the first.
I like this maindeck, though I'm probably going to try a Spell Pierce over the Snare (partially because I just picked up foil Pierces).
Anyone running Elspeth, Knight-Errant? I picked up a copy this week, to see how well she plays with my Geists, but figured I'd seek the wisdom of other players before sleeving her up. She seems like she'd be pretty bad in this meta.
i ran her in a uw devler deck with geist. i was a realy fresh and exotic deck. she was great in there. to hit for 9 with geist turn 4 feels great and has won some games. when the elderazi winter came, and she didnt feel that great anymore. but i didnt played her in my uwr midrange lists, and didn t tested her for a long time. maby its realy good with the extra range of bolt. i always compare her to Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and i thik he s a little bit stonger in our deck.
I'm inclined to agree here. I run 2 Gideon, AOZ in my sideboard and he is a house. Just thought I'd get a feel for anyone's experience with Elspeth. She feels a little win-more in the matchups where Geist is already good.

I've played as many as two Elspeths in the main before. I think the card's great actually, but I would only play it in a non-Cryptic, 4 Geist build. I don't like Gideon in the mainboard, but I think the card is an auto-include in the sideboard right now, and it's actually replaced big Elspeth in my sideboard for now since 6 mana is a lot in this meta and they're both good in basically the same matchups. I highly suggest trying her out if you're on 4 Geists.
played over 20 matchtes and won most of them. stormbreath dragon was realy good. won me games against blue moon decks,white/black tokens or with the last needed damage. vs midrange decks like jund or B/G rock it often came down to an topdeck battle and geist or stormbreath often won me the game, with the help of snapcaster and colonades. also got lucky and won more games with the 2 ghostquartes/surgical combo vs different types of tron decks. i ve got big problems vs temur delver. maybe i sideboarded/palyed that match wrong. i wanna test new fatties for keranos and torrential gearhulk to improve the elderazi match ups. wanna test Baneslayer Angel, inferno titan, gideon jura and another Elspeth, Sun's Champion.
another card i would like to test is the new gideon.
Is Stormbreath better than Thundermaw?
Elspeth is your key to the Eldrazi matchup, as well as cards like Ceremonious Rejection and Spreading Seas. You also have 2 Verdicts, so I really struggle to think that you are having issues with that matchup.
The Eldrazi matchup is the reason I think Spreading Seas should see play in everyone's board. At least 3 of them. Turn 2 disruption is very important. The card's also very good against the Shadow decks, BGx, and even Affinity. Elspeth is vital as well, but it doesn't matter if you can't find enough siruption to get you to turn 6.
I've always preferred Hellkite, but that's partially because it's a 5/5 so it kills your opponent quicker. I think both are totally fine options though.
In my most recent list I had gone away from Izzet Staticaster but since then there has been a sharp uptick in Vizer COCO decks which have a large number of Staticaster targets. I'm on the fence on whether I will run the Staticaster in the board next weekend for GP Kobe.
I always like having a Staticaster. It's kind of like a Wear//Tear slot, I just always have one with me in the board. The matchups where it's good, it's a beast of a card.

I also love the card. I just don't know if I'll have the room for it this time around. In my last GP I almost never brought it in.

That's fair. Like I said, I personally just always like to have one. Granted, I also have a couple foils which are gorgeous, so maybe I just like having one so I can look at it.
I still keep bringing Staticaster with me. Storm is getting so populair and I like having an anwser to all those goblin tokens.
I'm trying something new this saturday. Mainboard an Moorland Haunt and a Grim Lavamancer. Sideboard will have 4 Nahiri and 1 Emrakul for the matchups in wich Geist is horrible. It's not my idea but after talking to another Geist player who has a ton of experience, I'm giving it a trie.
I don't like either of those inclusions. I've played a Lavamancer, and the card is great, but I don't think it's good enough in the current meta. Back when Infect was big though, there were multiple times that I won matches due to turn 1 Lavaman. As for Moorland Haunt, I don't think the deck plays enough creatures to take advantage of it.

Yeah I have it in foil, too = p
Outside of the AV and 2 Flooded Strands my whole 75 is foil.
The Lavamancer is primairly for Abzan Coco. I find the new versions with al those combo pieces to be a tough matchup. The deck is quickly becomming a tier 1 deck.
I suppose that's fair. If that deck does end up being more popular, i'll probably have to consider Lavaman again as well.

I sold almost all of my foils at GenCon last year (the only foils I kept were promo Geists, Paths and Remands and 8th ed. Mana Leaks). I regret it a whole lot.
If you guys want to know anything specific about the matches, let me know, I just have to be up early and don't want to spend the time tonight to write up a whole report for the night. Also, I know these are just FNM reports, but I figure any content on the deck is better than nothing
Why play Fulminator when you could play Molten Rain instead?
Yes. Fulminator seems incorrect. Molten Rain can be flashed back with Snapcaster and Crumble to Dust is more permanent hate. Fulminators are good with K-Command in Grixis.
I liked the idea of getting some attacks in before having to use FMage to blow up a land. And selfishly I wanted a reason to dust mine off and use them again.
