Thats a fine list. Anger is great card with aplications against pod, affinity, zoo etc. Its really good and I think its woth it with the shaky mana cost. just my call.
Electrolyze is a weird one nowadays. It can be utterly insane or mind bogglingly useless but is most of the time a nice value spell. This makes it a meta choice. If your meta has pod, affinity, random creature decks like sisters, play it. But if your meta is 50%+ zoo, tron, twin other combo etc. Get rid of it or play very few.
Tec edge with mystic gate is sort of a nombo and can make for some awkward draws with it a rw land and the gate. In general I dont think you are playing enough blue sources. 18 out of 25 seems shaky with cryptic in the deck. Try for at least 20.
Its seemed pretty close for all your games... considering all the burn, it was unlucky not to win another game against merfolks.
As for affinity and Tron it just seemed they drew well and you didnt.
UWR is like that.
As long as you played your hands as best you could this happens. The beauty of Magic as they say.
all in all i was satisfied with my little changes (+1 clique - 1geist) and i think my meta is so strange that geist still shines so it is fine to have him in 2 copies. before the event i was tempted to remove them to add a couple of mincensors but i am happy i did not do that. i am not really satisfied about restoration angel.
Sounds like geist really won you a lot of games! From short aggressive kills to matchup where the players had no answers to him. I'm not so sure that your meta is weird tho, in mine I've played the same decks, won or lost in very similar ways. Paper meta is not mtgo, I haven't seen any sin of zoo since the unbanning and really things are back to the way they were before minus jund .
hi guys. i spent a while this morning whipping up a UWR midrange deck out of some of the cards i owned, and came up with this.
i'd appreciate some feedback:
i'm aware that this probably could (on a good day) compete in a modern event, with a little luck. most of the right pieces are there, although it's obviously not tweaked to be "optimal".
i really like ajani vengeant and he's done great things for me. if i could run 4 in the deck, i would... however the manabase just isn't there to support too many 4 drops.
the swords, on paper, seem like a great addition. i haven't ever managed to draw one with the deck, and i'd worry that topdecking one can essentially lead to a "wasted turn" while you play it, and don't really add anything to the board. playing one at 4 mana and holding up a path to exile seems decent though.
so... advice?
(just for the record, i'm keeping the serra avengers. for my metagame they are amazing... the baneslayer is a new addition, just for an experiment)

Aether vial although a powerful card just doesn't fit imo. You'd be better off trying isochron scepter if you want repeatable somewhat uncountable spells.
I like bane slayer, 2 ajani's might be much, the rest of your build looks very tempo oriented, and ajani is best suited for pure control imo . Although again its super powerful so it's not a bad addition anyway. I like batterskull over ajani for example.
What's your reason for serra avengers, love the card but...
I can't beat this deck for the life of me (affinity player). I would like to change that, but I need to know what hurts you guys most. I've heard Thrun and SoWaP are solid answers against you guys; however, as an affinity player both cards are hard to land due to a lack of colored land and stoney silence. What are your thoughts? (I asked my "thread;" however, we are all suffering. >_<)

I don't play this deck, but Blood Moon seems like it would be decent against it.
I play Esper but like UWR I have a greedy mana base. I beat Affinity Game 1 last week. Game 2 they land Blood Moon and it was an auto-lose.
Keep in mind they can still play their bolts and maybe their helixes, but their control game gets shut off. Also many decks have a Wear // Tear MB or a couple SB.

How to beat... playing around counters, baiting out reactions when you have something better and resolving a significant card like master or etched champ. Affinity against uwr is an underdog imo, there are just so many cards that shut you guys down that both all three if thr colors carry.
Lots of practice trying new tactics. Use torpor orb it shuts down snapcaster and makes resto angel useless.
The affinity decks is weak to its threats getting removed and then having an ubsubstantial force of useless artifacts. Thus it is extremely important to try ans stick one of the afformentioned cards (etched and master but also ravager and plating as ways to make combats alot more wonky for us) against us. Learn to bait with overseer and pest to try and resolve one of those cards.

I am no armature. I have been playing for quite some. Telling me to play around counters and baiting burn cards is not what I am looking for. You might as well say play Etched Champion and Cranial Plating...wait you did. I am looking for those who know UWR inside and out and can point its weakness with X card, while taking into account my type of deck.
Right now, I have Thrun, which can do a number on UWR; however, it is hard to cast for Affinity. Blood Moon can shut you down IF it sticks and IF you haven't already played Stoney Silence. SoWaP is slightly easier to cast, but again has to stick and I loose a turn due to the equipping cost if SS isn't already in play. That might be an option. This leaves me Defense Grid. It is far easier to cast early on and allows me to bait a EC and/ or CP into play. UWR can play around DG, but it seems to even the board.
Are their any other options I might have over looked? :/

You're putting sub optimal cards in your SB in a MU where it's quite dependent on winning the first game where you have the advantage and then leveraging high impact multi-use cards like Blood Moon, or dispel / spell pierce. You're just going to have to accept your MU gets worse in games 2 and 3. That's the nature of aggro...

Lol so angry, how would I know that? And as the next poster said, your playing aggro, UWR has all the removal and whatever else to be extra hard to deal with. Sounds like you know what your doing. Better sideboard Blood Moon is a start, sound like you know what hurts this deck.
Sorry. lol I do have a good idea on what to do and what not. I was just hopping to be told, "look over here - win-con!" But, that's a pipe dream. lol I've only ever won once against UWR and it was a mid-range deck and the kid was making several mistakes, but the worst part was it was still kicking my hide! Against the all foil UWR opponent I play (my affinty is all foil too) I've never won. And, after post board without fail he slaps SS turn two every. single. time. in. tournament. play. wtf. lol
My strategy is 4x Wear/ Tear to pop SS and Defense Grid to better bait a EC and CP onto the battle field.
There are other combinations; however, I'm going to try this first. However, it still feels like I need the stars to all line up.

Spec, maybe the best approach is figuring out when it is that the tides turn, you know that point in the game where you feel a shift happening where your opponent is suddenly not taking the hits and is gaining advantage. If it's always stony silence, lol.. seems like wear//Tear is best
I find welding jar to be annoying, you have to two for one yourself to get a creature out of play if you haven't drawn onto any paths. I've seen guys run spell pierce, it can really just be a tip in the right direction sometimes.
It's hard to say that any one thing would shut uwr off, really bloodmoon can just outright win a game that's the closest, but people are a little wise to it they run more basics lately.
Uwr is very resilient against almost everything.
With SB even thrun is manageable. ..
On that note. Can someone tell me what our match up against mill should be?
I have lost pretty much every time I have played it...
Sure. They seem to draw well.. but a turn 1 heron crab, then glimpse followed by archive trap in response to our fetch is half our deck!! On turn 2!!
Any ideas on the strategy besides leyline? Or elixir? And what r your thoughts on just putting the whole SB in to increase our library to 75?
Hello, I have not tweaked with my American modern deck in a while, but I was wondering what your guys thoughts or recommendations are on this list I have. The last time I worked on it was about a year and a half ago. I do not have any Vendilion Clique, Batterskull or Cryptic Commands, and as result I was going for a more aggressive tempo build. However, I haven't really seen many aggressive lists with steppe lynx in a while is there some glaring weakness or meta change for this style of deck that makes it bad? Also I do not have a sideboard any more so I need to get that all worked out.
Its (steppe lynx) a horrible topdeck, overly aggresive, and to an extent, a card with variance. which is not what you want. You want a good body (power over toughness) hopefully with resiliance, evasion and flexibility in your creatures. Although the creatures we run dont fill all of the criterea. They generally fill certain roles very well like geist and splicer as aggresive beaters. resto and clique and snapcaster as excellent tempo cards and ocassionally thundermaw as a wicked clock. Delver is ok, but the format has too much removal and flying stonewalls for him to be effective.

i'd appreciate some feedback:
3x vendilion clique
4x snapcaster mage
2x serra avenger
1x baneslayer angel
2x cryptic command
3x remand
2x electrolyze
4x lightning bolt
4x lightning helix
4x path to exile
2x swords (currently sword of fire and ice)
23 lands:
4x scalding tarn
4x arid mesa
3x hallowed fountain
4x steam vents
1x sacred foundry
2x plains
2x island
2x mountain
1x seachrome coast

3 Geist of Saint Traft
4 Snapcaster Mage
4 Delver of Secrets
4 Steppe Lynx
Spells
4 Lightning Helix
4 Lightning Bolt
3 Path to Exile
4 Remand
2 Spell Pierce
2 Mana Leak
4 Serum Visions
2 Misty Rainforest
4 Scalding Tarn
4 Arid Messa
3 Hallowed Fountain
3 Sacred Foundry
3 Steam Vents
1 Island
1 Plains
1 Mountain
I loathe creatures! Praise Prison and Land Destruction!
My Peasant Cube (looking for feedback)
Something like:
4x Snapcaster Mage
3x Restoration Angel
3x Geist of Saint Traft
3x Blade Splicer
Then I would drop Serum Visions for more early game control. Maybe another Mana Leak, Remand, and a 4th Path.
Resto is just too good with all the other creatures.
