I honestly think we could not be more thrilled at this pro tour. A similar WUR deck wins, our deck does really well, and fae was barely present. Plus the meta looks amazing now, almost legacy like with how much variance there was in having control, combo, aggro, and midrange all well positioned to win. There seemed to be very few total blowouts.
We just need a good plan of how to deal with Blue Moon post board.
Fae is going to come back now that combo and control are the top decks.
I feel like I should be including at least 1 Celestial Purge, but I'm not sure what to cut, maybe the thundermaw? Also was thinking of toying around with Celestial Flare, but in essence its just another removal, that in a way runed halo may be better in some circumstances, i.e. it can hit hexproof creatures/emrakul etc.
I would run 2 Stony Silence I think. Stops Pod right? Plus Affinity and Tron. I would maybe drop Pithing Needle for it but that's a Meta call. I would maybe drop Rest in Peace for Anger of the Gods. I also think Izzet Staticaster is good. I know we didn't see much Fae at the PT but I think it will still be a thing.
I am actually interested in Detention Sphere and am going to try 2 mainboard. Will help with Spreading Seas, Blood Moon, Bitterblossom, and the Big Zoo creatures that are normally out of our range (Loxodon Smiter for example).
So is Blue Moon just a fling or will it be around for awhile(ie. at Richmond)? If it is the latter, would we need to tweak the mana base to fit more basics or just fetch the basics early?
I think we have a not so good game against them. Blood Moon really kills us if we can't get rid of it. In Game 1 we have very little answers to a resolved one.
Also, what about Swan Song it is a 1 mana answer to Blood Moon, Bitterblossom, Splinter Twin AND all instants and sorceries. We dont really care about the 2/2, we can kill it with anything.
"BEHOLD MORTAL, AS I SUMMON THE MIGHT OF DIVINI-"
"oop, presto change-o! It's a duck now!"
"I...but...divine..."
"Nope"
"But it's a god!"
"No it's a duck. You have a duck now"
"*weeps silently*"
"quack quack!"

I wouldnt be so sure of that. Still, the fact remains that you can always answer blood moon with counters, it has been our best way of dealing with such threats. Besides, if you resolve a geist early enough, i dont see how they can deal with that.
I imagine the Gifts sideboard can lead to some "oops I win" moments, I'm just not sure about consistency.
I have a Modern FNM this week, and I'll probably try this configuration.
Blue Moon was good because nobody expected it, next time people will be ready for it.
As much as you can expect a deck, when it plays 4 MB blood moons, plus spreading seas and counters, one of them is bound to resolve and screw you up. Sure, you might be able to fetch for a basic or two if you realize what you are playing agaisnt on the first or second turn, but thats it.
Modern mana bases dont run more than 3~4 basics anyways, and half the decks cant search for them because they dont have the allied fetchlands.
@akroma: i would prefer 4 gifts before the second rites.
Yea, I'm sorry guys, but U/R Delver-type and U/R Control variants will now invariably be around. It's just that NOW people are realizing just how much Blood Moon hoses the mana bases of most of the best decks in Modern. Most assuredly good enough to warrant a soft-lock/permission style deck. I could see something with Blood Moon and Thorn of Amethyst or other locking-types to create one hell of a lock.
I've had Porphyry Nodes since Avacyn Restored came out originally (I tried to play it Mainboard in a Modern Miracles deck I was building) and I absolutely love it in this controlly midrange deck. Comes down T1 and obliterates so many decks out there. I've played around with it mainboard, but there were a lot of combo decks in my meta. I would 100% run it in an aggro-heavy meta in the mainboard. And to think it was $0.50 a couple of days ago haha.
Note: There are not many Pod decks in my local scene. If there were, I would have 2 Anger of the Gods and 1 Supreme Verdict in the mainboard. It's just a superior card against them.
@ MeinKampfire but what to cut then? the two mana leaks? I have the same problem while playing 3 electrolyze 3 remand 2 spell snare and 1 mana leak.
I dont know if I should cut the snares and play 2 mana leaks and 3 commands or vice versa
I'm really happy with my list right now. It's just the 1 Electrolyze that I'm unsure about. 2 Mana Leak, 2 Remand, and 2 Spell Snare seemed to be more than enough.
I wouldnt be so sure of that. Still, the fact remains that you can always answer blood moon with counters, it has been our best way of dealing with such threats. Besides, if you resolve a geist early enough, i dont see how they can deal with that.
the deck rolls over and dies to twin and affinity. And probably won lots of games from opponents misplaying against them, the deck underperformed from its initial group to the 18+pts group. In a less insular meta than the pt (ie: less pros playing 3 colour greedy decks because they don't play modern much and want options, and to be given the opportunity to outplay opponents) will get run over by its bad matchups. Sure you might run into but thats magic.
Hey everyone, I just joined the forums in search of some help when building my first modern deck. I´m going for uwr geist, after a while of looking up decklists and looking at the protour I basically took Dezani´s decklist as a jumping off point. I just enjoy the pressure it can build up and how reactive it can be to certain threats. I´ve been looking at the meta locally and decided to cut the clique due to the heavy presence of electrolyze and include ajani vengeant along with one more cryptic command and restoration angel due to the synergy with other cards in the deck, dunno if it will make a difference until i test it out thoroughly but at least its a starting point.
I have yet to get any fetchlands, this is a huge drawback in filtering mana but it is mainly due to budget concerns. In the long run I´ll be able to get them; in the meantime, do you think the shocklands will do? Or should I include more filterlands or glacial fortess?
I´ve been thinking of cutting the porphory nodes from sb since it can potentially take out my own creatures (considering geist is a 2/2) but it seems somewhat useful against big zoo, though there are still drawbacks.
If it becomes an issue I guess we board more wear/tear. But that single plains becomes a problem. Fetch it early i suppose.
That just isn't good enough though.
Fae is going to come back now that combo and control are the top decks.
Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
This is its current list
1 Runed Halo
2 engineered explosives
2 counterflux
1 Disenchant
1 Sowing Salt
1 Rest In Peace
1 Thundermaw Hellkite
1 pithing needle
1 timely reinforcements
1 Supreme Verdict
1 Stony Silence
1 Batterskull
1 Damping Matrix

That too. I run two Wear // Tears.
I think we have a not so good game against them. Blood Moon really kills us if we can't get rid of it. In Game 1 we have very little answers to a resolved one.

These are just some thoughts.

UWR American Geist-Control RWU
Well that makes me happy lol.
What are we thinking that the Richmond field will look like?
Modern
UWR American Geist-Control RWU
I'd run Batterskull most likely. Feast and Famine is awesome though, I use it in my black control deck.
Mine as of now:
3 Gifts Ungiven
2 Unburial Rites
1 Iona
1 Elesh Norn
2 Stony Silence
2 Wear/Tear
2 Relic of Progenitus
2 Supreme Verdict
I imagine the Gifts sideboard can lead to some "oops I win" moments, I'm just not sure about consistency.
I have a Modern FNM this week, and I'll probably try this configuration.
Any opinions are welcomed!
