Then if u have two slots on main deck, what u prefer to play in a unknow meta? Vendilion or Blade Splicer? I have a tournament in... 4 hours and idk what to do
Clique. Every. Single. Time.
Yup, its not even close. Clique, always. Its a toughseize with a body, it beats in the air, it has flash, i would play 4 if it wasnt a legend.
About colonnades, the pointof it its to be used when you are at 0 cards or with 1 or 2 useless ones in hand. At some point in the game bluffing becomes useless, so you would rather give the opp something to think about instead of just bluffing counters/removal that you really dont have.
And a 4/4 vigilance flying beater is definitly something i would be worried about if i dont have a path or a tectonic edge.

I use my Colonnades a whole lot less than you'd think I do, but the threat is always there. That 4/4 body that swings in the air and still taps for a PtE is always on the board, taunting your opponent. Even if I don't animate him, I'm sure he's done something in some way or another.
Also, UWR Control use Colonnades as a win-con. Why not have something that UWR Midrange can fall back on?
yah Colonnade is awesome. Very little consequence to run it, and is just amazing in a top deck war as it both blocks and lays down the pressure in the late game. Plus I've had more than one person forget it was there and attack into it for the loss.
Hey man, you play in your meta, we don't. If you think it's too slow then cut it, it's not like it's set in stone. Don't keep playing something that you don't think works just b/c some stranger on the interwebs tells you to follow the net deck masses (I'm one of those strangers so there ya go.)
Colonnade keeps people honest as a blocker, too. I am down to 3 but I still like having the ability there. You've gotta have something to flip quickly into kill mode; Colonnade fits that. As someone upthread said, it's for when you have only 0-1 cards left. It's a lot less relevant against the longer control decks since you sometimes can't afford to tap to activate it, but it's great against the midrange decks.

I'm excited for PT Valencia and GP Richmond - I want to see how the new meta shapes out.
I just swapped up my deck and am running 4 geist MB, 3 resto, 4 electrolyze, 4 paths and my matchups vs most decks are insane. I'm only playing online so I don't have much exp with the new build vs fae...I think I'm going to have to invest in VClique and possibly drop Ajani MB for the 1 of ThMaw..possibly even 2. I just think that by the time I'm playing ThMaw the game is only getting better for Fae. Even electrolyze on turn 3 when they only have 1 token to 2/1 them they can flash in scion or spellstutter to counter it >< WHY WIZARDS must you make BB legal again...so frustrate!
I think it's too slow/"cute". It's not a trick you really need, IMHO.
I really like Thundermaw Hellkite in this deck (at first I thought I would hate it). I play one MD and one SB and it closes a lot of games where Geist/Resto + Burn have already done some work.
colonnade is awesome and is one of the best win-con of the deck. and it always scares your opponent just by being on the field.
i nearly always side geist out, indeed. but i think it is very incisive in g1 apart from the jund MU (which just got already worse with geist since now they also play kitchen finks, too). it's gonna stay by now (even if i saw and interesting italian list with 4x restoration and no geist)
Ahh i dont know how to say this without sounding mean, so i will just say it, and hope you dont take it the wrong way:
NEVER keep a hand with no red sources. How long have you been playing this deck? You should already know that. Specially when you have 2 red spells.
Restoration angel doesnt seem solid as a singleton, and as it was said before, playing him just for value isnt good at all, you need to play her whenever a an opening presents itself. even if it eats a path, thats one less path for your colonnades, trust me, that matters.
From what i get from your list posted before, your deck seems really weak to the mirror, no wonder you lost 2 games vs uwr. Also, double tectonic is a pretty common way of winning the uwr mirror by cutting red, thats the main reason i play 3 of them.
don't worry i am always appreciating comments that help me to improve my level of play.
it's been my fault infact.. but apart from keeping a bad hand in that game i cannot understand why i did so badly in the others.
now in a couple of days (saturday) i will face another big tournament, in which i know i will find:
- jund with white
- jund with no white
- jund dunno which list
- melira pod
- 2x monored
- 2x affinity
- urw
- tron
- infect
- martyr gainlife
- 2x merfolks
+ random decks
which changes would you advice for my SB and which card should replace the mono restoration? maybe a batterskull?
I would probably go with 2 spellskite, 2 stony silence, 1 timely reinforcements, and 1 wear/tear.
1 counterfluxis always a safe bet, and most likely 1 verdict and 1 hallowed burial, since melira and martyr can make their guys hard to get rid of with wrath effects.
For insurance, 2 rest in peace, and 1 batterskull (you could also play it main). That leaves 3 spots, so a celestial purge, an engineered explosives, and either a second counter (probably negate) or a another timely reinforcements.
Thats the SB i would probably go with to an event when im expecting those decks.
Since there is no twin or uwr control, both dispel and combust seem unnecesary, as is a second counterflux.
Tested this deck at a small event and went 2-1. I chose to try Brimaz because he is much better against the zoo decks than Geist of Saint Traft. Overall I think he is pretty good, though that remains to be seen. Electrolyze was underwhelming, but it was due to the matchups.
Yep this is a port of the standard deck from RTR standard. Game one I managed to stabilize and kill him with restoration angel and colonnade. Game two I got stuck on lands and he played a turn two Thalia, effectively shutting off my spells and ran me over. Game three he had the god draw of T1 Experiment one -> T2 2x Burning-Tree Emissary + Flinthoof Boar, and I had 2 combusts in hand staring at a board full of green creatures. I dropped a geist which died blocking a BTE, and I can't help thinking how much better it would have been if I had drawn Brimaz.
Round 2 vs. RG Tron 2-1
Game one I dropped Brimaz while he failed to find his final tron piece and he won the game. Game two was a back and forth battle with Brimaz bringing him low, until his sundering titan blew up all my lands (he used a nature's claim on it to double-destroy lands while at one life, and I had a lightning helix in hand). Game three I remanded his expedition map for me to draw a land, and dropped Brimaz. Turns out he reallllyyy needed that expedition map as he was stuck on 2 lands. When he finally assembled Tron he was dead to Brimaz attacks and burn spells.
Round 3 vs. Boros Twin 2-1
Game one he went T3 Blood Moon and I lost to it. Game two he went T3 Blood Moon (see the trend?) and thankfully I had just enough basics to slam a geist and rode him to victory. Game three he went T3 Blood Moon, but I drew my second plains and slammed Brimaz. He Path'd it, which allowed me to find an island and play geist, which won me the game when I played another Brimaz the next turn.
Batterskull has the built-in tricks of being able to return to your hand at instant speed (playing into our flash-based strategy) and dying to almost nothing (crucial because we run so few threats). It can also be cast through an opponent's resolved Blood Moon, unlike Baneslayer. Unless decks with Griselbrand or Thundermaw start proving to be disproportionately bad matchups for us, I'm sticking with Batterskull over Baneslayer in the sideboard.
It depends how much you want to bank on the value from Restoration Angel. It's not THAT important for the deck. Batterskull is nice because, like Squeak said, it's hard to interact with. Though this isn't control, you run a bunch of creatures. In control, I would be inclined to agree with you, because you're running like 4 Colonnades + 3 Snaps, it's not a lot. In the midrange you have Geists, Cliques, Snaps, Restos, that's a lot.
As for casting through Blood Moon, you could always just stick to a Thundermaw. It casts through Blood Moon.
As for Gifts, it's a lot of board slots for something you don't necessarily want to hedge on. You're dedicating a minimum of 6 slots, and Gifts decks are playing anywhere from 2-4 reanimation targets. You can't really play 9 sideboard slots to try and get the value here. Sometimes it would be great, like Elesh Norn against Affinity. Would you really want to do that? Or Iona against Burn? It's not really worth the board slots. Especially considering the plan is so fragile to any grave hate, you can't really bank on it. If you could dedicate like 4 slots the way you do for Leyline it would be fine, but you just can't.
I dont know for you guys but my meta is crawled with creature decks that can block Geist all day even with full pack of removal I have in deck, so I decided to cut him. Yeah even burn players maindecking Volcanic Fallout, so lame. I played Geist for 1 year now but I will retire him for the moment. But if your meta is full of control play Geist. I will play the flash version with 4 Resto, 4 Snap, 3 Clique, 1-2 Thundermaw Hellkite. Similar to this deck _Monstruito_. I was thinking about this card lately for fun to include in SB Crystal Shard. You can bounce Snap, Clique or even Izzet Staticaster. What do you think?
If your meta is full of Zoo, consider replacing Geist with Kitchen Finks.
As for the Baneslayer vs. Batterskull debate, Banelayer is almost always strictly worse than Batterskull in Modern. The only way I see this changing is maybe if Thundermaw becomes really pooular.
I do. i never enter a room without at least 1 in my SB.
It takes care of random burn or RDW (you are always gonna see atleast 1 in a big event), is a decent enough card in the mirror, vs zoo, vs jund and other attritition style decks. I could also see it doing work vs affinity, if need be.
Timely isn't very good against Affinity IME because the tokens don't block much and the life gain is not terribly important if you aren't stopping the attack. Kitchen Finks has the same problem against it.
Out of curiosity, is spellskite an auto-side in versus zoo? He blocks for days and can eat their bolts/lightning helix negating at least 1 life lost, and when you have open blue, shuts off the whole thing.

No, consider replacing Geist with Brimaz if facing zoo. Finks just doesn't do what this deck is supposed to do.
In fact, I think people should be playing a mix of both the cat king and Geist already. He's just that good and offers an alternative angle of attack.

How many would you suggest? What kind of split?
A 4/2 in favor of GoST , a 3/3 split or even a 4/3 still in favor of Geist. Geist is good enough to have 4 copies, is Brimaz good enough to be a 4 of? (I ask cause i really do not know, i have not tested him yet).

Maybe Im misunderstanding what you are saying, but protecting eather Batterskull or Baneslayer is pretty bad with resto.

I'm a little confused, you can't Restoration Angel a Baneslayer Angel because she is well an angel.
