Played with Teferi a bunch and he is indeed the nuts. Old news by now but I did want to come to that conclusion by my own merit
I'll probably still stick with my 3x Nahiri 1x Teferi setup instead of the more common longrange build though, I do really like her exile effect a lot in the current meta
Had a disappointing 5-4 this weekend at Regionals. Unfortunate, but sometimes that's just how Magic works. Made a few changes from the standard Jeskai lists that I'll be trying over the next couple of weeks.
Hi everybody, (sorry for my bad english i'm french ^^)
I had played the deck this week and i'm very happy with him ; my maindeck is the same than rossum's MD but i'm not convinced with the 2 electrolyze ; I want try 1 copy of izzet charm over 1 electrolyze, thought about this ? Spell Snare seem to random for me and i want to find a versatile card in this slot
Also i'm not very confident vs tron ; what is the best sb strategy against this deck ?
i think 1 copy of electrolyze is fine. in some matchups like mardu pyromancer its great, but sometimes the meta is a little faster and you want more cheaper interaction.
izzet charm is...alright. its a flexible card, but the reality is that you are paying more for a weaker effect. ive played with the card quite a bit over the years, and its always been average. it doesnt see much play because a deck like jeskai cant make good use of the third effect (draw 2/discard 2). not that you would never use it, but we arent digging to a combo nor are we trying to get certain cards into the graveyard (flashback spells, creatures to reanimate, etc).
against tron you need disruption, but more importantly pressure. cards like Ceremonious Rejection, Stony Silence, Damping Sphere, or just more generic counterpells like Negate or Disdainful Stroke. then you need cards that can actually kill them relatively quickly, because if the game goes long they will eventually draw what they need and overpower you. board out most of your burn but not all of it (helps you kill them), and shave 1 (or 0) paths. tron usually sideboards Thought-Knot Seer, Thragtusk, and recently Karn, Scion of Urza; so have a plan against those.
so for example your board plan might look something like:
Hello everyone,
Recently, I am struggling to put up good results with Jeskai. The past 3 events I won only 1 match out of the past 11 that I played. I played almost all of our good (Affinity, Company, Elves and bad (Tron and Ponza) matchups and I am still struggling. Can anyone give me advice as to how to break out of my slump, and if anyone has experienced a slump with the deck? Any feedback is great.

I have gone through slumps before. I usually play Amulet Titan for a month and then everything seems easy again.
But seriously... giving your mind a break from Draw-Go control is valuable if you play regularly. Without more specifics that is all I can say.
You could always record your matches and review then afterwards. Some at my LGS do this.

Or just realize that the metagame has adjusted to one of the top decks. Welding Jar in Affinty basically has Bolt.dec in mind. Not to mention the rise of big mana decks craps on Jeskai.
Seems pretty cool. A little different than whats been on the scene and what the latest buzz has been about.
its difficult to assess. tempo versions of the deck with spell queller still have their merits, but big jeskai has just had more consistent results. the guy who 5-0'd with the deck, Gods_Shadow, is a grixis player on this forum (you'll see him in the grixis control thread). he also has a youtube channel of him playing a slightly offbeat grixis list in comp leagues on modo, but there are also a couple videos of him playing the jeskai list in question if you wanted to see it in action.

I like Jeskai Tempo alot. Its one of if not my favorite decks. However, i run 22 lands which is somewhat unconventional though it did gain some popularity. I was looking around for similar lists to mine. (22 lands, unconventional cards like mantis rider, lightning angel since i run a single of steel of the god head) and I found his. Been wanting to ask the guy questions and decided to just look up that user name on youtube and found his list and talked to him a bit. I like his take on the tempo list and he has pretty solid advice on things like running opt as opposed to serum visions and things of that nature. Watched some gameplay of the list and its pretty solid, his gameplay is really tight and imo he hardly makes mistakes.
I tried out that list shortly after it got posted and oh boy was it dog*****. 22 lands and Opt is not enough, it needs either more lands and keeping Opt or playing 22 and playing Serum Visions.
I play a similar 22 land list with 4 opt but instead of 3 lightning angel i play 1 clique and 2 spell snare.
It does decently well enough to have fun. I tried his list but with mantis rider instead of the angel yesterday and it didnt do well at all. So idk how hes has so much success with it.

well its likely that its just the generically powerful core of the deck, and him being a skilled pilot of blue decks. i expect that a good portion of being able to play the deck well is functioning when you are land light or are missing colors. which comes from experience.
22 lands with 4 cantrips should be roughly the same as 23-24 lands, with 24 lands being the minimum to expect to hit your 4th land on curve (around 75 percent).
if your decks average CMC is between 2 and 3 you want 23 or 24 lands, and 3+ is 26. a typical big jeskai list is around 2.15-2.40 avg CMC depending on how you count various cards like snapcaster or X spells like secure the wastes. the decks strategy is also incentivized to continuously hit land drops because of mana sinks, x spells, and high value plays only possible with 6+ lands (snap/cryptic).

yeah i wouldnt look too closely at what Gerard Fabiano does. he is known for just doing his own thing and still somehow wins. im surprised he picked up jeskai over temur or sultai though; which are both decks he is known for.
jeskai was the most represented deck for day 2 of the invitational, and had 2 that went 7-1 (or better). we will see if it can defy the odds and do well this weekend at the GP.

karn is just bad if you have no artifact synergies. tron plays a few in the sideboard now, but its more due to the lack of good options.
jace may not have lived up to the hype, but its still a decent card. teferi just happens to work well with the jeskai cards/strategy, and when slots are limited something has to give.

Jeskai Control/Jeskai Tempo are/is a deck that is so volatile. It seems to change so much with no real set decklist for winning.
I have a question concerning my list.
lately ive been reading that this type of list doesnt need/want SFA. During play testing I was running 2 SFA, 3 queller and 1 steel of the god head. Ive had pretty good success with the list and have had games wehre my opponent scooped bc of the SFA advantage I had while he had no cards in hand.
The card is very good but I have never tried the list without SFA (and now 4 queller as well). I have been watching old gameplay videos of Jonathan Rosum do really well with the old jeskai geist list and I get curious how the deck would do with at least just 1 SFA.
Anyways I have 2 flex spots as Im pretty happy with the rest of the list. What should I add? Should I put the 2 SFA back in or should i split 1 SFA and 1 thundermaw?(which is what i was gonna do) extra cryptic and logic knot? What do you guys think? Or an SFA and JTMS? I dont want to add any more land Ive been very comfortable with 23.
interesting tronix, I would have to agree. The pilot of this deck is a big deal with this decks performance. More so than Id say at least 80% of the decks out there atm.

azcanta is a card that suffers from diminishing returns. adding the first copy to the deck does far more than the second and so on, both in the probability of drawing the card and how much power it adds to the deck. given that the card isnt integral to your primary gameplan and just sort of supports the deck as a whole, i think playing it as a 1-of in a flex slot is fine (ie slots meant to make the deck more flexible).
for the second flex slot i would either go big or go small depending on what decks you wanna beat. personally id be looking at gideon AoZ or ajani vengeant. both can supplement an aggressive/tempo gameplan the turn they come into play, gideon with his emblem and ajani with a helix to the face; but they also can generate value on defense if that is the role you are playing.
thundermaw is a nice KO finisher as well, especially if you need to punch through fliers like mantis rider or souls tokens. its also a bad ass dragon, which is a plus in my book.

Those are all good points and yes thats whh ive decided to play only one azcanta bc I drew an extra one one too many times when I really needed something else.
And too genini ive considered stormbreath as well but the thing about thundermaw is that it taps down flyers to make room for the traft angel and quellers which im assuming is a big deal bc ive never used him before but the logic is there right?
Man soo many options guys I cant make up my mind. Im not playing to beat any deck in specific I just want a good list that can see a broad field as my main goal is to build a modern deck collection for the future.
Thats why my sideboard is now a little bit more generalized.
I think ill stick with one azcanta and a hellkite, and possibly move the second oneto the board..
Oh and i thought flex slots meant slots that you were willing to change up or could be changed up
