its pretty good in skred for a sideboard card... Cant be countered, and immediately makes an emblem to do 1 damage every turn, then can make another next turn
yeah, i don't know what UW is supposed to do against that, celestial purge? even if they have it, we'll still get to activate her +2 once, after that they're on the clock. so even under ideal circumstances, she seems like a flat-out trump card vs the premier permission deck of the format.
Is this one better? Helps getting Chandra, Torch of Defiance's ultimate rather quickly, but is it too slow spending 3 mana just to rush the process?
Also, just to note, I have been testing Seasoned Pyromancer, and he's the real deal in this deck. He's helped me win through floods, replaces dead cards (I once pitched two Blood Moons against a mono red deck). I've topped him in a top deck war and it was amazing. I'm currently running two, and I feel that's a good number right now.
As for Frostwalk Bastion, that is another superb edition... it's felt so nice swinging in with that guy, and the fact that he becomes an artifact creature is not meaningless if you are running Karn, Scion of Urza, which I've also been testing in a more artifact focused build.

my problem with chandra, acolyte of flame is, while she's certainly far better of a card for main-boards than chandra, awakened inferno, she just doesn't excel at anything.
difficult to remove? as much as any other PW.
generates value? yes but very slowly (her loyalty accelerator). or at a steep loyalty cost (-2 to flashback)
threatens the opponent? sure, with 2 damage per turn. while doing so she doesn't generate any loyalty though. even if she did, she lacks an ultimate.
protects herself? kiiiinda, by flashback'ing removal. but that not only requires you to tick her down, it also requires free mana.
she might be flexible enough to end up being worth a slot or 2 depending on your exact build, but i don't see her doing much beyond that. and if you don't run pillage she's probably just a complete miss as it lends a lot of versatility to her -2.
im calling it now, seasoned pyromancerwill be the next must-have-4-of like koth used to be back when this deck first took shape.
and yeah, frostwalk bastion is just good so long as your manabase can survive its inability to make R, much like mouth of ronom. i think the real question is what the ratios ultimately look like.
personally, I'm planning on 2x bastion, 2x ronom, 3x scrying sheets. (22 total lands)
in the past, i've run 3x ronom, 3x sheets without any issues (4x magma jet might be part of why), so i feel pretty confident in 7/15xR.
ronom tends to be more useful vs control decks, and bastion looks better vs aggro decks, so that particular split will likely just depend on a meta call.
I run 23 lands with two Scrying Sheets and 3 Bastions. The bastions have been fantastic. I didn't realize how much this deck wanted to run Mutavault.
As for the Pyromancer, I'm not sure about running the full playset. If you do, that means mom and pop Nalaar are probably getting cut, and I don't think I'm ready to do that. While I'm loving the Pyro, there are times where I don't want to ditch any of the cards in my hand, so it can be tricky to play. I'm currently liking the 2 count of Pyro. I feel he's not strong enough to be a win condition, but adds tons of value, and along with the Relics and Stones that cycle, and Chandra, he helps make the deck consistent.
Another card I'm looking to keep an eye on is Chandra's Regulator that just got spoiled today. The rummage ability is yet another way to be consistent (though I think I would cut a relic and/or stone to make room) and the Triggered ability can just be game winning. If I add this one in there, I think the new 6cmc Chandra would have to be at least a one of in the deck and maybe a second in the side. But just along side Torch, it would allow her to take down multiple creatures at once or even one fully grown Goyf.
I think it's fun that Skred is getting some new toys recently.

regulator seems too slow, maybe if we hit a critical mass of chandras, but even then im kinda doubtful.
6cmc chandra is exclusively a SB card for permission decks. i don't want to play a 6 mana anger that doesn't exile/6 mana skred to kill goyfs. i want an uncounterable way to start burying my opponent in burning emblems.
I'm new to this deck and the techs and everything but the few playtest I've done with it were really fun Is there a consensus on the best Skred list in the current meta ? (like how much more relevant is Abrade now with Humans/Hogaak top tier ?)
I still like Abrade quite a lot, it's versatile enough so that it's rarely a dead weight. It can hit Pentad Prism, any thing that Karn fetches, pithing needle/spyglass. It's one of the rare tools we have that can slow down combo decks as well
After finally getting my hands on a playset of Blood Moons I'm getting into playing this deck.
The list I'm playing isn't very unique but has some cards not usually played in most versions of the deck which I'd like to point out:
# Karn, Scion of Urza - ever since it was printed I though that it would be a great fit for the deck and in practice it didn't dissapoint me.
It generates card advantage and can create threats on an empty board and hitting Scourge with the +1 is always good.
The deck plays a reasonable number of artifacts as it is so the artifact tokens become legitimate threats/blockers rather quickly.
# Heart of Kiran - I'm surprised it isn't mentioned more here as it is an ideal way to protect the PW's (it can also be cast directly with Chandra's +1 or Koth's -2) and use their extra loyalty while also being able to clock slower decks better.
It does play better with a higher number of PW's but Scourge can also crew it as can P&K or Hazoret if need be so it is rarely a dead card though being legendary means I don't really want to draw multiple copies so I run 2x in the deck.
Some other cards I consider for the deck:
# Dismember - a faster way to kill bigger creatures when getting to 5x mountains for Skred is too slow that also deals with pro-red creatures.
Another option could be the painless Response // Resurgence which and has some upside over Roast like the instant speed and being able to hit flyers (and not needing a card in exile like Processor Assault).
# Hazoret - a hard to deal with hasty threat though the deck isn't as good at emtying its hand as other decks that can use it.
I used to play one in the maindeck but P&K just seems better at the moment.
# Shattering Spree - with Abrade and Pillage I already have some artifact removal in the deck so I don't know if I need more.
# Batterskull - a bit more lifegain and stabilization against aggro deck though I try to avoid slow card like that and 5-drops as the deck is pretty slow as it is.
# Rekindling Phoenix - I wonder if this can be useful in the deck as a creature that reanimates itself (despite the nonbo with Anger).
Hey guys, I've been dying to get into skred dragons and just recently took the plunge since modern horizons made the land base affordable. I've play tested my deck but I'm torn between which direction to go to combat the current meta... Simian spirit guides vs magma jet/mindstone. Here is my current list.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as you guys seem to really have your heads in the game
Skred dragons

4 Thunderbreak Regent
4 Glorybringer

4 Sarkhan, Fireblood
2 Chandra, Torch of Defiance
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Skred
2 Draconic Roar
2 Magma Jet
2 Anger of the Gods
3 Mind Stone
4 Blood Moon
2 Cavern of Souls

Skred dragons:
Maindeck (60)
4 Thunderbreak Regent
4 Glorybringer
2 Stormbreath Dragon
4 Sarkhan, Fireblood
2 Chandra, Torch of Defiance
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Skred
2 Draconic Roar
2 Magma Jet

I’ll definitely would prefer the 4th Mind Stone over a Magma Jet. It enables a turn 4 dragon and replaces itself in the late game. Moreover, your threats are on cmc 4 and 5. With 23 lands, I think you need the 4th Mind Stone.
I played Magma Jet in the past too and was happy with it. But in the current modern, it will be a bad burn spell many times.
About Simian Spirit Guide: a turn 2 Blood Moon or Anger of the Gods is still killing in modern. Although, I’m not very experienced in Skred Dragons.
@KothTheHammer
@D90Dennis14:
I really really like your build with Karn, Scion of Urza. Considering to buy those cards and building the artifact skred deck
For now, I’m still on my traditional list. I’m really happy with this build:
I highly recommend Karn, he is a powerhouse and really helps grind out games.
The combination of his high loyalty with Heart of Kiran is also really good.
Chandra and Karn were so good that I consider upping them to 3x copies each and bumping Koth down to 2x copies but I'm not sure if this is correct.
Thanks, I’ll definitely will consider those cards! I like them working together indeed
I’m not sold yet on 4 Eternal Scourge. The +1 from Karn should rarely give you an exiled Scourge. Can’t imagine the opponent that kind of a fool ;-) But I’d like to hear your opinion on that!
Eternal Scourge is the least performing card in my deck. Sometimes I doubt this should be an Etched Champion in a Karn based artifact build. It survives anger. And has protection from almost all modern removal (which is one of the characteristics from a skred deck; fatal push, path and bolt isn’t doing anything against us :))
Eternal Scourge is just so resilient and that is what makes it good.
With Relic it can never be removed so it can outgrind any attempt to get rid of it and be cast freely into countermagic and makes games against Control decks rather easy.
It also crews Heart of Kiran so there is that too.
It has been consistently performing for me so far.
Another possible direction the deck could be taken could be a Black splash which shores up some the deck's weaknesses with combo or spell-based decks with the trade-off being weaker to GY decks without the maindeck Relics (and Anger).
Black also offers a stronger 3-mana sweeper in Dead of Winter and unconditional removal like Dreadbore/Terminate.
And other decent options like: Angrath's Rampage, Kolaghan's Command, Blightning and Bedevil (though BB isn't exactly good for a splash color).
Arcum's Astrolabe is a cheap cantrip that helps with color-fixing and powering-up Karn's tokens.
It foregoes Scourge altogether in favor of Chandra, Acolyte of Flame and a 2nd copy of P&K. Seasoned Pyromancer could also be a decent option for this slot but I prefer something that avoids my sweepers and reusing spells from the GY and crewing Heart seems better.
I like your idea. But I'm not sure, if we need a splashed color. The painless mana base of Skred, is really something to embrace in modern.
But if you go for a rakdos Skred build, it should at least contain some Prismatic Vista too for consistancy. Especially with 6 1cmc black discard spells. You need your black mana the first turn.
I like Arcum's Astrolabe here. Great addition too Karn!
Not sure on Chandra, Acolyte of Flame. I still would consider anger of the gods here.
Not sure on 4/2 split between Skred / Bolt. Maybee it should be the other way around. Bolt is more versatile.
I think it’s pretty competative. I’m not gonna write a full report, but these were (in short) the friendly and FNM matches I played last week:
- Grixis Death Shadow: lost 1-2. I only saw 1 Bloodmoon and 1 Relic in 3 matches. A bit unlucky. Gurmag angler is a problem for Skred. Hard to deal with. Overall: matchup does feel pretty ok, but you need a bloodmoon or relic.
- Golgari Vampires: won 2-0. Skred is resilient against a lot of removal. But multiple Assassin's Trophy were a bit of a problem. Nevertheless I could resolve some late game Koth and Stormbreath for the win.
- Blue Faerie / Sky Hussar deck: 1-1. he play’s a LOT of counterspells. Force of negationFlusterstorm, combined with Faerie control. Normally, blue control matchup’s are good for us. But this was a bit too much. Although Eternal Scourge almost won me game 1. In game 2 the opponent made a mistake and I got a free Koth emblem for the win. Overall: bad matchup for us.
- Urza Thopter: lost 0-2. Very bad matchup. I left my Vandalblast at home. Which I regretted. Played a Spyglass on his Thopter Foundry. But it got killed in the end. Lost to the combo twice.
- Merfolk: lost 1-2. Very close games. Bloodmoon did surprisingly a lot of work, but Aether Vial kept them in the game. We traded a lot of 1 for 1 resources and got into topdeck modus. I drew 6 lands in a row... game over. Overall: before Force of negation this matchup was favoured. Now it’s more 50/50.
- Grixis control: won 2-0. Bloodmoon locked him out of game 1. Game 2 was funny. I played a scourge on turn 3 with a relic in play. He Logic Knot the scourge. I exile it and cast scourge turn 4. He respons with snapcaster en Logic Knot again. I play scourge turn 5. Opponent starts feeling desperate. Turn 6 I topdeck my second scourge and opponent scoops. Overall: easy matchup!
So I got a 50% win in these matches. And it felt, with a little bit of luck, that percentage could have gone up easily.
For me, this was a test to stick with this decklist or switch to the karn artifact variant. But I’m very happy with this list and keep playing it. If you can dodge some of the problematic matchups (Hogaak, Thopter combo, Tron etc), this deck could really swing
Thoughts on some cards: Abrade: I really like them in de main. The 2cmc slot had always been somewhat problematic for me. This cards feels great so far! Simian Spirit Guide: I tried them in the main for a while. But they feel better in the sideboard. They come in, when I’m on the play and need a fast threat on the table. Stormbreath Dragon: It’s just great. We need a hasty finisher to end games quickly, before we lose control of the game. So many decks can’t deal with this card. Sorcerous Spyglass: really happy with this one. Shuts off some combo and planeswalker decks. Better than Pithing Needle, because you’ll see there hand on turn 2. And helps your decision making on your crucial turn 3 and 4 plays. Ratchet Bomb: I don’t know yet. It’s a potential sweeper, token killer and universal permanent killer. I like the versatility of it. But it’s not game changing. Maybee I switch one or two for the Vandalblast
That’s it. Would still recommend this deck to everyone. Price-quality ratio is amazing!

Thoughts on some cards:
Abrade: I really like them in de main.
RBWMardu Nahiri, GBElves, UW Emeria, RSkred Red,
GBelcher, BDevotion, GWRNaya landfall, UWBEsper Miracles
I never used it in my lists as it seems rather situational and not very impactful.
Now that we have Damping Sphere to slow down combo and also stop Tron, I like Berserker even less.
