I dont think I've ever lost to blue white control. Not only do we have more threats than they have answers/counters, but our threats are very difficult for them to clean up once they hit the table. Think Stormbreath, P&K, or even Scourge. As long as we don't over extend into a Supreme Verdict and get blown out, we should be winning. Take your time in the match up. They can't actually do anything to harm us until like turn 8 or something. I like to lead with Blood Moon to bait out a counter. If they counter it, it frees up the way for our real threats. If they don't counter it, then they lose half their win condition in colonnade and some list lose the ability to cast Cryptic Command. Relic makes their snapcasters look dumb. If you resolve a Koth, you can -2 him to push through mana leaks or remands. I had a game where my opponent cast a restoration angel end of turn because they didn't want to go to discard, and during my turn I played a Koth, used -2, and played a Chandra + Godo fetching a Batterskull all in one turn. Scrying Sheets are also pure money in this match up, we can use them to grind them out. Don't forget that if you have excess mana, you can activate scrying sheets during your turn before draw step to ensure that you draw into fuel.
Another way I used to play the match up was that I simply just waited. I waited and activated Scrying Sheets every turn until I hit enough lands to make their mana leaks and remands worthless, and then I push through. I'm not sure if it still works since it's been a long time I last played the match up.
Way to go man. I've been playing Standard lately, but I'll be testing Skred more in the week leading up to GP San Antonio. I'm also looking at playing Skred at the SCG Invitational in Roanoke, but thats a ways off.
Anyone try sarkhan out? I have one laying around thought maybe it would work in the deck. Might drop a relic but don't know yet. Anyone have any experience with it?
I won't go into detail about the games, but I will go into detail about my takeaways for the night:
Takeaway #1: Walking Ballista seems very good. I believe it's a straight upgrade for us over Pyrite Spellbomb, which is probably the weakest card in many of our lists.
Pyrite Spellbomb takes 2 mana to kill any of these guys. In 3/4 of the above cases, so does Walking Ballista. It's true Kor Firewalker will take a bit more work at 2 toughness, but he usually prolongs the game so we have time. I'm loving Ballista's versatility. You can swing in or block with it while threatening the pings, and it's even a resource for Batterskull and/or Pia and Kiran, not to mention a great late game top deck. It was very, very useful against Merfolk which I often have problems with.
I recommend you guys try it, see how it works for you. After its performance I'm considering it in the main.
Takeaway #2: I might be over sideboarding.
I ended up losing almost all my game 2s. One was a mull to 5 and another was a shaky keep, but I'm wondering if I may be overthinking my sideboarding and diluting my deck. Maybe I was just unlucky and I'm fine because I won the game 3s? Not sure, but something I'm trying to keep in mind in the future.
First post in this thread, would like to thank all the contributors, lots of good info and reports dotted through out.

I prefer the more traditional brew with Reckoners and Dragons, but have been goofing around with a pure Ponzaish version of Skred, and would appreciate any feedback. I reallllly wish Pillage was Modern legal, but alas.
-
In a perfect world, the idea of the deck is to keep the opponent off color/off mana long enough to stick a threat and ride it to victory. Rabblemaster is squishy, but if you can manage to keep your opponent off color/mana, he is very effective for 3 mana. He is also a nice target for removal, helping the other threats stay alive a few extra turns in some cases.
-
Side board is fluid, as I am still messing with the deck, but it always has 4 Relics, 1 Anger, and Artifact hate. The lone Chandra, Pyromaster should be Torch of Defiance probably, but isn't due to budget reasons.
-
The deck does pretty well against almost anything that isn't playing Blue or Combo. My question is, how can it do better? How can I tune it to be faster? Is SSG worth running in a build like this? I think 4 Blood Moon is too many but maybe not? I appreciate any feedback.
Thank you both for your replies. Yes Riders is a budget option, but I like Riders for what it does. He usually swings on an open board, or blocks for Koth, almost never pay his echo. It is also nice to snipe the one basic they have under a Blood Moon. I do need to fit a few Fulminator Mages in somehwere though, probably should get some sooner rather than later. Running Fulminator and SSG would allow more turn 2 land destruction as well.
-
Want to fit Boom/Bust as well somewhere.
Edit to add budget is not a huge concern. I don't have some of the cards I would like, but will get them if I feel the deck has any potential beyond just what I play when I'm bored with my traditional Skred deck.
Apologies if this has been covered somewhere else.
Has anyone ever used Dead // Gone in their lists? I played this deck when it was standard legal and that card was fairly useful in that it doubles as removal and is a nice card to disrupt tempo until Skred can come online or we can find answers, protect planeswalkers, etc.
I am putting this together as an alternate deck because I remember how fun it was to play back then.
Anyone try sarkhan out? I have one laying around thought maybe it would work in the deck. Might drop a relic but don't know yet. Anyone have any experience with it?
It's fine. Being able to kill something when it comes down gives you a little flexibility. The big weakness imo (and the reason I play stormbreath over it) is that path to exile kills it.

I've seen it in some sideboards before. I think the gone half is just too weak to bother when there's so many other removal spells. You're not a fast deck, and if you're spending your whole turn on a bounce spell, there's not many ways to take advantage of the tempo.
I swapped out 1 of my 3 maindeck Stormbreaths for a Dominus of Fealty recently and I'm loving it so far. If it sticKS around for a turn it usually swings the game HARD. I've had games where it's gotten me out of some really bad spots. Saved me from Ulamog, planeswalkers, all kinds of stuff. Give it a try. It dies to Path, which is really it's only downside (a pretty significant one though) from Stormbreath. But it's wicked fun.
IS anyone else testing Walking Ballista? I'm curious about hearing some results on it, it seems like a very interesting card for the deck
I'm playing a pair in the maindeck. I really like it. Helps bolts reach a little bit further early on, is a great late game mana-sink, can combo kill with Koth, and can be deployed by Chandra's +1 to protect her right away.
I'd say it seems pretty horrible against aggro and combo, but I really do like it against midrange and control decks.
I think solemn simulacrum is worth a try. Blocks, draws a card. Gets your skred bigger. Also a Godo bandit warlord and batterskull/sword of light and shadow seems worth a try. Protection from black seems good.
Solemn and 6-drops has been a thing in Skred before, often named «Big Skred». Even stuff like Ugin and Sundering Titan has been tried.
Nowadays the meta demands fast pressure. Burn, Eldrazi and even Tron won't give the time to do too fancy stuff, but maybe 4 Mind Stones and 4 Solemn for the sake of consistency might get down something significant in time. I think Wurmcoil would be sweet atm, the big lifelink beats aggro and paths are less present. Fares better against Kolaghans than batterskull too.
However aggeession with Stormbreath as curve-topper is the safest option imo.
4-0 Modern FNM last night I hadn't played skred in a couple months it was a lot of fun.
Round 1 Budget 8 rack: Tough match up ratchet bomb was great. I won in 3 games with top decking well.
Round 2 G/W hatebears: Thalia was a pain and he kept dropping her right after I would deal with her. I think this match up is favourable. Won in 3
Round 3 Jund: I won the dice roll which I think helped me win first game as it meant a blood moon earlier which locked him out of green for a bit and kept threats stranded in hand. Game 2 Ratchet Bomb was tapped at 2 counters ready to clear the board next turn and he Kolaghans commanded me which just wrecked me. I won game 3 with a Ratchet Bomb clearing board and me getting koth down and beats in.
Round 4: Esper Control, I won 2 fairly quick matches I think this match up is really good.
My takeaway for the evening is Ratchet Bomb is just awesome right now and I think I will add another somewhere in my 75, maybe even go up to 3 in my 75.
I think it was suggested before but maybe it is worth revisitting the idea of playing Thought-Knot Seer in the deck for more interaction and another threat ?
Since many lists already run Mind Stone (which would be the only colorless source post-Blood Moon) and Eternal Scourge maybe adding some Eldrazi Temple and dropping Scrying Sheets as a result can be reasonable as well.

As an eldrazi player as well, 8 colorless sources is way too low, especially when blood moon shuts some of them off. You could run Scrying Sheets and Mouth of Ronom, but you still don't have any fixing. I don't think it's possible to play the snow package and have reliable mana.
Good morning warriors,
Yesterday I competed in the biggest Modern Championship in Rio de Janeiro, 72 Players, and I had a bad result, but it was not really the fault of the deck, I did some wrong things, I can not speak low slang words in English, I went with 2x Bombs Of ratchet and I repented seriously .... I think it's valid to read my post I played 7 matches and I can contribute to my failure for the success of you hahaha
I confess that I played with the deck 2x in one night and went to the championship, really not giving excuses I did not train and I made many bad plays allied with bad luck ¬ ¬

Skred x UR Klind
G1 I start and kill his critters with Skred, and I make a ratchet pump with chandra and koth on the table, game won for me and forget by marker, he descends Klind, when I remembered by marker he hits 20/2 stroke double.
G2 he does Klind I kill he does the thing on ice, I do Pia (hallelujah she came) but he turns it back to my hand beating double blow
It's a difficult math ....
2-3
Skred x Kiki Jiki Nahiri

Conclusions.
Certainly I admit without shame that if I had trained more I would not have lost a few matches, I made some changes and our team here we will train 2x in the week, next month there is another big championship and we will, the changes I made were the following I took 2x Bombs and I put +1 Pia +1 Anger.
I'm seriously considering using 2x Kari Zev's Expertise up from Main deck, to steal Goyfs, Shadow Dath, Wumicoils, Ulamog etc.
This is the list I'm testing.

2 Chandra, Torch of Defia ..
4 Anger of the Gods
4 Koth of the Hammer
4 Blood Moon
4 Skred
4 Mind Stone
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Relic of Progenitus
I'm sure if it was with this list I would have gone better, I accept any constructive criticism and I will strive to improve, now 4x sink and 4 anger is right!
It was not like I wanted to, but for the first time I hope I have contributed something to you.
Ah! I was very nervous when I got 1 mountain, 1 scry land and 1 stone mind, and with 2 anger and could not cast. I seriously thought of putting +2 valakuts .... I did not use Scry Land either, I could not use it.
