Is Crumble to Dust not a consideration? Most decks run the ways to get it out early (Mind Stone, Coldsteel Heart, SSG) It's not the fastest answer no, but it's an answer rather than just slowing them down.
Unless you got T2 Mind Stone, it's a turn too slow to stop tron. Also, land destruction is a decent addition for some other matchups, so 3 mana got better game overall.
I think 2-3 rain and 1-2 crumble could be something if meta is full of tron/breach. Then you can somewhat consistently stop them turn 3 with moon/destruction, and crumble later to lock out their main wincon.
I'm going to agree with Morcrux here, and say that Control is among our best matchups. If you are losing the majority of games against Control, you are playing the deck wrong most likely.
Depending on the Control deck, you have 2 paths to victory. You can either jam threats into counter magic until one sticks, which works and its what you have to do sometimes. The other option is to play a typical control mirror, which means that you just want to hit your land drops on every turn until you can play multiple spells in one turn and overload their counters/mana access. Because you play Mind Stone and Scrying Sheets, you should always have access to more mana than they do. The only counterspell that actually matters is Cryptic Command, and they have to tap low to do it. Snapcasters aren't an issue unless you don't have a Relic out, and even then, if they Snap a Cryptic/counterspell, that should leave and opening to resolve another threat.
If you still find you are having trouble with Control, or Control is super prevalent in the meta, I'd suggest playing a 1-of Reverberate in the main, as it can lead to huge blowouts. Even without Reverberate though, I think Control is super easy.
Valakut decks can be difficult. I don't mind them that much, honestly. I play the 4th Moon in sideboard, along with 3 Molten Rain.
The decks 1 true weakness is Combo decks. Another semi-weakpoint is that if you make a mistake with Skred, you are probably going to lose. Mistakes like using a removal spell at the wrong time, or on the wrong creature. Or not activating your Srying Sheets in your upkeep, or just timing your threats wrong and getting them removed without generating value.
Here's my list, so you know the style of Skred I've been playing lately. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/562904#online
I feel like based on what you are saying, you have to be playing Boros Reckoner or something, which I think is just outdated and too weak. Like, if you are playing Reckoners and Simian Spirit Guides, of course you are going to have more trouble with Control than you should.
agree except on reckoner, he just controls the board all by himself without trouble, his only weakness is 'dies to most removal'. and against most aggro decks, that removal tends to be damage based, which leads to us 2-for-1ing them and recovering tempo.
i will admit it's not the best card vs control, mostly because it's just not necessary in that particular MU. there's not usually a difficult or complex board presented by your opponent. just some snaps, manlands, and the occasional tasigur or something. so if i have something to bring in and i need room, yeah i'll side teh reckoners out. but i don't feel like they're costing me the MU. i still steamroll most control w/ 4 reckoners main.
We (I) came to the conclusion that control MUs are not bad, I looked at my data (W/L spreadsheet) and indeed I have to agree with you guys. However, I did lose to Jeskai Control on last year's WMCQ after leading 1-0, he countered every threat I draw with remand after remand (and Leak, Cryptic, jada jada..) and finished with a Stormbreath he sided in while I failed to find an answer, and pretty much the same happened in Game 3. Dont know why (bias) but I cant shake a feel from that game. I stopped playing skred after taking it to a few FNMs and the deck lost to itself (maybe I dont know how to mulligan, maybe it was bad luck with floods/screws, or just RNG). I do remember beating Esper Control relentlessly when we playtested for GP Bologna, and my friend on Jeskai when preparing for some tournament in Prague, so I spoke too early and was too bias. However, I do hate remands.
Needless to say, I had some decent results with Skred Red in the past (Top 4 split at 170+ players tournament in Italy in Dec 2015) so I doubt I play the deck wrongly altogether.
in my experience, you just want to land a relic or two and play the waiting game. don't let them flashback anything. most control lists run roughly 4-8 (usually 6) hard counters in the MB, some of which may even be conditional like countersquall. if they can't flashback, they can't answer all our threats, as we usually run 12ish. some of which may be eternal scourge's which couldn't care less about being countered.
their spell snare are close to useless against us, most of our threats are capable of ending the game by themselves once they get onto the board, their threats tend to be VERY easy for us to answer (with T2 Tasigur as a notable exception), remand and leak are garbage come late-game. we hold a ton of inevitability in the match, let them resolve sphinx's revelation for 6 they're gaining 6 life and grabbing a handful of useless spells.
Obviously not Sure how it competes, but i will be able to put it through a gauntlet usually consisting of infect, affinity, ad nauseum, burn, living end & zoo.
I might change out the Mimics to Koths... not sure... i like that you can name construct, dragon or thopter. Only three choices really.
Besides trying to race out a blood moon and them not caring with their lotus bloom being in play is there really anything else we can do against Ad Nauseam? It's really infuriating to basically have nothing to contend with them with. The person here packs 4 slaughter pact so spellskite won't do.
Pithing Needle naming Lightning Storm. Then you try to race while holding up an amount of removal for their Lab Maniac plan. Also, I personally bring in the 2 Shattering Spree. If I was running Trinisphere, which I've been thinking about a lot lately, I'd also probably bring that in.
Besides all the above disruption, your only real option is to race. In fact, even with the cards about, you still need to assemble a decent clock or they will just find a way.
Going more prison with Ensaring Bridges and Chalice of the Voids would help, but at that point you might as well just become a RW control deck and completely drop the Skred theme. There's probably some middle ground that can be explored though.

Jester's Cap can be alright, but it's too slow and they'll usually pact of negation it or go off in response to it. Possiblity Storm is 1 mana cheaper and is hilariously effective against Ad Nauseam and it doesn't hinder us much anyway.
Hey guys, new poster here. I'm mostly a Legacy player, but built Skred a few months before the GP win last fall. I had mixed results for a while on various Reckoner and Scourge lists, but my current build has been performing well:
3 Pia & Kiran
3 Stormbreath
2 Chandra, Torch of Defiance
4 Koth
4 Bolt
4 Skred
3 Magma Jet
3 Anger
4 Blood Moon
3 Mind Stone
4 Relic
My LGS is hosting a 1K the first weekend of March, which I'm trying to prep for. I have no clue what the meta will look like, so my question to you guys is: in an unknown meta, do you think the 2 Roast in the board should be 2 Pithing Needle? That seems more broadly useful, especially if I run into *****ty matchups like Tron or combo.
*Edit: oh yeah, almost forgot to ask - how useful has Spellskite been for those of you running it? To me, it looks great on paper but hasn't really been impactful in any matches.*
If its a blind meta, why not go with a 1/1 split on needle, and roast.
I have skite in the side, its been nice when I get it, but usually it has been a win more card, since match ups where I would bring it in, are already in my favor.
I personally feel Mouth of Ronom is a bit unnecessary. just my opinion, being a fetchless deck, I don't even love having to run two scrying sheets (but the filtering makes it an exception). feel with 3 colorless lands, some hands could be auto mulls, I could be wrong though. Eternal Scourge with Icefall is really cute, and I can see where it could be helpful. I've never been big on a singleton Magma Jet in any skred list, it feels unnecessary, would probably just be better as a Stormbreath Dragon or a Banefire (Banefire is so good lol)
What do people think of processor assault over the singleton roast some people seem to be running? Seems ok with relics and anger of the gods. Hits Kor firewalker and Etched Champion. Also hoses some random suspended stuff.

Never thought about processing suspended cards.. now I really want to burn a Tasigur and fizzle their Ancestral Visions at the same time, hah!
I think assault is fine main for the flexibility offered by the "extra removal", but otherwise I feel pro-red is so rare that the consistency Roast offers is more valueable for sideboarded games. If we need to deal with something big turn 2 with assault, a relic MUST be played turn 1.
If Firewalkers were a thing then maybe, but only pro-red I've seen in ages is Auriok Champion, and Pyrite is by far the better fit if you struggle against those.
Agree, Roast ends up being more reliable post board.
If anyone cares, I've updated the R/W skred list I've posted previously on here. Happy to answer any questions about the list, or entertain suggestions.
As it stands I'm pretty happy with this list. I don't love Pyrite Spellbomb in the main.

It's also nice versus control to remove a counter suite on T2. Just my thoughts.
