7-2. Waiting for standings. Beat esper control. I think I'm going to end up around 20th ppace because I was toward the bottom of the people who were 6-2 going into that round at 35ty place. So, around 20th seems right. Crap, I really wanted to get the list published again....
Thank you for the welcome. I ran two spyglass in the side this weekend. I think I’ll cut one and try Harsh Mentor this week. There are a ton of modern PPTQs coming up around my area and the goal is to top 8. I do want to say thank you to everyone on this thread for the work it has taken to make this deck. It is such a joy not letting people play magic while they are on lock down.
This my current set up. For my local meta I’m going to try Harsh Mentor for Tron and Coco combo decks. I’ve also considered bringing in 2 Ball Lightning for the ole turn 1 6 to the face.
I was done posting for the day.. but you said Ball Lightning. Ball Lightning is my favorite card from my childhood lol. I've always been a red guy. I could get behind testing a couple in the side for control matchups. I don't think they're a great fit, but I'll run some tonight for fun.
The way I picture it working is, cutting two bridge for ball lightning. I’m going to try zero bridge main and four ball lightning Thursday and then I’ll scale it back Friday. I play the same people both days just different locations. Someone is going to getrek
I'll post some general thoughts on the event tomorrow, but I can honestly say the list I ran was as close to perfect as it can be. many have asked about walking ballista and whether or not it's good...let me tell you, it's not good. It's great. Fantastic. It had so many applications today and put in serious work.
Also, the all star of the day was the build and deck itself including sideboard. Vs all the control matches, the sideboard was easy....out go bridges, slagstorm, and abrades. In came eidolons, hazoret, torpor orb, spyglass, boil, and spellskite. Perfect 8 for 8. Vs aggro, you side out rabblemaster and put in two anger, spellskite, and whatever else fits...cage, matrix, spyglass, whatever is good in the match. Having a good sideboard strategy is huge and getting the 15 correct is only half. You also need to identify what comes out as well, and my list has perfect ins and outs. More on this later, but every time I went aggro, it was the same, and it worked each and every time.
Mother f**ker......look at the list that won....I was into something when I said a list without bridge and lots of dragons could do well..... http://www.starcitygames.com/decks/122532
Wow lmao.. That's crazy. I did not see that one coming. Btw I'm interested about your thoughts on Shattering Spree, but I'm sure you'll talk about it tomorrow.
If you saw my matches, I only brought it in vs kci and I didn't draw it. I like it a lot and I'm back on two. Ray said something that reminded me why it's good....killing a map on turn one is a thing.
Hello Mountaineers, Sad tiding s for me ths weekend on the Mountain. 6 round FNM i went 1-2 drop in playing Trash Dragons 3.0, then a 1-2 drop at a 6 round pptq on saturday both losses to jund with a win to Scapeshift. So today's PPTQ I decided to play a bit memey....and went 5-2 with My Ball lightning Deck beating such decks as Jeskai control, Tron (turned 4ed him game 3 for 16 :o) and UR control. It was quite a spicy day. Even though I only made 15th out of 81 I won a drawing for a Masterpiece Chrome Mox so i didnt walk away empty handed. Had fun and brought the spice now im off to buy some more Sarkhans before they spiiiiiike.
Karn is poop. He's too slow, and compared to Sarkhan there's no real reason to go with him. Sarkhan has looked decent in Fluffy's testing.
TOP 8 INCOMING.. WAIT FOR IT...
Well, yeah Karn works in legacy due to fast mana. Sharkan is fine but running it without dragons seems like a waste to me.
Can't wait for the top8
I've been on mtgsalvation for years, being a silent reader, and never register.
But this time, I have to .. to shout it clear and loud lol..
No it's not a waste to run Sarkhan (not Sharkan) without any dragons, just give it a try..
Sarkhan is sooo Bad! Dont know why all try it now. Seems we are in the fluffy mode. This means if fluffy test a card, all in the community do it. The same happened in u tron with shoktroopa. Waste a slot for filtering only is Bad....even tibalt is better. Played on x mage vs. Sarkhan builds in the last days and crushed them to easy
I'm wondering if rather than having too many silver bullets we focus on making our iffy mathcups great or just shoring up bad matchups. I have used boil for instance and it has been amazing but I feel with an aggro plan and eidolons we probably can beat control UW though is tough). Also spellskie I have taken out due to the decrease in popularity in Jund although I understand it's good against mardu and is also good against infect. I'm curious Russ which matchups you like it for.
Lastly has anybody tried amulet of safekeeping? I have found burn such a terrible matchup and it also helps against pyromancer and has applications (although not great) against storm. I feel for Tron/ KCI we need to go balls to the wall and try to stop o stone and EE respectively!

It's filtering (or I'd prefer to call it rummaging) and a permanent that has to be destroyed (by a planeswalker destroyer spell which is rarely shown or by at least 4 damages). If you say for 1 less casting cost, discard a random card is better than rummaging, then I have no more words to say.
Apparently all the posts about sarkhan being bad completely missed the results from last night. I have been advocating for a bridgeless version of this deck for a while now and I think Sarkhan and his dragons can make this happen. I was first onto Glorybringer, then first on Thunderbreak Regent. I really think there is potential here and the results from the Sunday classic validated my crazy ideas. In the right shell, I think Sarkhan could be great, but right now,, I dpn't have the slots for it in our current configuration. I agree that it can be good sometimes, Sarkhan would be better as a sideboard card and not a main deck card. you don't know what you are going to run into game one and are you really going to cut slagstorm? abrade? Walking ballista? Goblin Chainwhirler? for what, a three mana filter engine? Yes, there are dead cards in certain matches, and yes, there are times where you draw three blood moons in the same game and want them gone, but I don't think that takes away from the central strategy of the deck....powerful stuff as fast as humanly possible. We win with pure power, not by grinding out games over 17 turns. So, yes, I can see a use for a strong filter engine, I don't see it maindeck.
Sidebaord, that's a different story. We could use it as a one-of in the board I can see bringing it in vs control decks or grindy matches where we can filter our draws to draw more gas than an opponent, like vs jund, mardu pyromancer, control....those types of decks. But vs burn, tron, storm, humans, infect, scapeshift, that is NOT where you wanna be. you just die when you cast sarkhan.
