Martyr can actually gain enough life to be out of range of lightning storm - had this happen to me more than once whne I was playin ad naus
The deck only runs 20 lands and will usually drop 3-4 before they kill so 35 is about what you can expect the ceiling is.
Other than that you can run stuff like Stony Silence and then GQ/Field them to death pretty feasibly. Take them off black mana and they can't really win without artifacts.
Combo decks other than Ad Nauseum, we just don't do that well against. But ranger-captain of eos will at least help somewhat.
You might try Gideon of the Trials, although some decks can just bounce him and win anyway. Sometimes you can buy time by dropping a Leyline of Sanctity turn 0.
I've been trying this list and its pretty damn fun! I'm thinking of cutting one Day of Judgment for either another Oblivion Ring, or another Sword of X and Y

Well, it does very well against any deck trying to kill you with damage obviously. Phoenix / Spirits / Burn / Humans are all good matchups. Phoenix in particular becomes a cakewalk post Sideboard with Eidolon and Runed Halo. Also Leyline helps against Aria.
Bad matchups are of course combo. Ad Nauseum for example destroys this deck. Devoted Druid combo is not so bad, provided you hit your removal on curve.

I don't know if this is still an active thread? But I wanted to share my current thoughts on Martyr Proc.
Martyr Proc is my 'pet deck'. Definitely the deck I have most fun playing at FNM. And I think it's actually in a really good spot right now in the meta. The two most prominent decks appear to be on the aggro plan; BR Shadow Prowess, and straight-up prowess. Early discard and disruption can be an issue out of the Shadow decks but with no Tron (because of Cleansing Wildfire showing up everywhere), a decline in combo and the rise of aggro (including Humans - which is a match-up I've always liked) - Martyr seeems well positioned.
Also, I think there have been a few inclusions from recent sets that help the deck enormously. Firstly - lurrus of the dream den. Pretty much a Modern staple now, landing a turn 3 Lurrus just gives the deck so much consistency with the main engine. Looping Squadron Hawks, Martys and / or Serra Ascendents.
Secondly, Speaker of the heavens. Whilst it's not as powerful, it does feel like having extra copies of Serra Ascendent and is a turn-one play I'm always happy with.
Then we have Angel of Destiny from the new Zendikar which is just a brand new win condition. It's not impossible - in a Path to Exile heavy meta - for your opponent to help you ramp this out on Turn 4. And if they can't answer it immediately, it can be a one-shot kill. It doesn't even have to deal combat damage - just to have 'attacked'. Pretty sweet.
Remorseful Cleric is cool in the SB, but I wonder if that 2/1 that has protection from black that exiles cards slowly from the graveyard may be a bit better in this current meta. Apostle of Purifying Light. Found it. Lol
Also maybe make 1 or 2 of the planes into a Castle for a Mana sink and potentially make blockers. Angel of Destiny is cool and all, but probably too cute. I'd swap that out asap.
Last thing is if you have some under performing cards in the SB I am a big fan of another Ghost Quarter in there to fight the new bleacher/spy decks.

this deck looks super fun, how as it done with the top tier decks because my FNM seems to be pretty competitive
