I havent been to happy with Esper Control locally as of late. Playgroup has been pushing me to play more wincons, but the deck really falls apart when you start drawing batterskulls when you need answers.
I stepped away from Mystical Teachings for a while, but have had horrid finishes since I dropped it. Lots of lost casual matches and 1-3 in Modern Monday at LGS. The only deck I actually took down was a standard deck someone was running since they just wanted to play some magic.
Archangel Avacyn is in here as as a curve topper threat. It's not the most resilient, and it's weaker than Baneslayer, but Baneslayer requires us to Tap Low on our main phase. Also the Indestructible clause isn't irrelevant. I was able to flash in Avacyn to double block a Smasher with Snapcaster Mage and come out unscathed. Not sure if it will continue to be good, but I'll be trying it for a while. Also can be searched out with Teachings which is nice.
Rain of Tears is another experiment. So far Steam Vents+Crumble to Dust has been really lack luster. Its just too slow to make a difference, assuming I draw it and it gets through Warping Wail. Im already running extraction as my Graveyard hate of choice, so 3 Rains + 2 Ghost Quarters is 5 ways to bin tron lands and then surgical extraction can take care of the rest. Again maybe not as good as im hoping it will be, but ill never know until I give it a shot.
This list is much more focused on playing at Instant speed than my last iteration, so hopefully this will put up some decent results.
I will say, my local meta is quite slow. We have lots of slow Grindy decks like Grixis, another Esper player, Jeskai, Skred and Gifts. This is probably the reason I can get away with Teachings, and have it be the all star that it is.
The issue is - how are you removing those creatures? At that point, your only option is 4 mana spells (Wrath effects and Cryptic Command bounce). The usual removal pieces (4 Path and 1 Condemn as the most common 5th one) are uncastable and you will just lose to those 2 creatures.

Magic player since July 2011.
Modern - Esper Draw-Go (Best finish - 12-3, 45th at GP Charlotte 2015), Jeskai Control, UR Breach Moon

I was reading and about to hop on the Chalice train, but you brought this up. I didn't even think about how it wrecks a fair amount of our draws, including our early-game removal. If you're running spell snares, they're now dead. Paths? Dead.
So we should board out the best removal in our deck.... For a card that comes down turn 2, but will only be useful in countering cards after the window where the threats would have already resolved?
Opponent: turn 1 guide
You: land go
Opponent: turn 2 swiftspear, lava spike you
You: land, chalice for 1
Opponent: beats you to death with the creatures he's already resolved, Boros charm, rift bolt, skull cracks, eidolon, attarkas command
Chalice was good when you could chalice for zero to counter every copied pact trigger from amulet bloom, not so good against decks that actually do other stuff

Let me know how rain of tears work for you. I'm trying out spreading seas for tron/ manlands
LolVos, I'm not gonna lie--your decklist screams "midrange" to me. It's not quite all the way there, but the curve and game enders just look ugly, and my immediate instinct with that list is to add discard spells, which just feels... wrong.
If you guys are having trouble with manabases, feel free to shoot me a PM. I'm happy to work with you on those.
As far as chalice of the void goes, I just don't think it belongs in our deck at all.
If Wafo is headed to Lille, I'm excited to see what he brings and hope we get some coverage from it. I expect some kind of UWR deck is the most likely candidate for him to bring, but who knows. Maybe he'll jump on the kitty cats train with us for the event.

EDH: Sidisi turn-3 storm
Oh yeah baby, I hope it's true about Wafo coming out of hiding to show the world a new spin on control for the current modern, I to expect either an updated esper list or his take on jeskai control most likely featuring flash kitties regardless.
I think there's a good chance Wafo plays UWR with Visions instead of Revelation. My money isn't on him running the Nahiri combo at all, though Nahiri may be present with Emrakul in the board?. He's almost certain to have a ridiculous amount of card draw and likely the decklist will look like hot garbage at first.
No way to know, though. If he's randomly playing in a GP all of a sudden he most likely has been seeing what he can do with Nahiri, as he's had plenty of opportunities to play Modern in the past 2 years and I haven't seen any decklists from him on paper or online. Maybe he's just has a new MODO screen name?

I wish I was a hacker and could easily snoop into finding out if he has an alt name. =\
Alas, I am not. Anyone here willing to dig in a little deeper?

On a side note, I got a tip from my friend that UWR with AV as the draw engine is pretty good, and I realized that I've tested a AV-based game-plan in Esper and UW, but no AV+TT engine in UWR. In just a few matches, I'm instantly impressed. Plus, my friend testifies that the AVs help the BG matchup a ton. Anyways, I know it's not Esper, but I figured it's worth discussion. (It doesn't play Nahiri, btw)
After just brief testing, I want to add a few things to the main -- a 2nd Elspeth, a Rev or 2, and at least a pair of Crumble to dust to the board. Any suggestions/criticisms?
If you can bolt snap bolt, then you get encouraged to play vendilion clique, which is great, but why not also add restoration Angel?
Don't wanna get to midrangey but I think I've got a starting point to brew
Adding Resto for etb interactions means cutting other good control elements or better finishers. The removal/counter spots are already tight, and I would rather play Clique and Elle than Resto, since Clique has a lower mana cost and disrupts the opponent's hand while Elle is just more resilient.
I can't wait till I get AV for my U/B control and try out TT paired up with it. I love TT. I've won almost all my matches when I cast TT and flashback following up

Why would you scoop on turn 2? When you got path in hand lol
Yeah if your on the draw it be a bad play. Chalice would be a side board option. Imo
I will still test it. Seeing how it hits alot of early threats.

Thinking about it now. It probably bad for you guys on esper. Since path is like the best spot removal in game.
