Not necessarily. Cards like jace and search are good, but frankly I'm not actually happier playing them than I am playing a more streamlined, instant speed deck like the old pre-ixalan lists.
That specific list has a few things I dislike, but I don't actually think modern has evolved past that.
Imo, yes. That list was sketchy last year when it came up.
That "sketchy" list made like 10 consecutive 5-0s. It's the reason the likes of me (for a little bit) and BloodyRabbit switched to Secure. It's definitely been impactful.
As to the validity of the list, I think it's still viable, but I believe the best iteration lies somewhere between what I last posted and the list referenced -- not too tap-out, but not all air either. I think a list with a singleton Jace/Teferi, maybe Gideon, 2 Searches and less than 4 Think Twices is the right spot, but I haven't hammered down a list.
For the record, I also think Spreading Seas is more poorly positioned now than before and have jumped ship back to Esper for the time being. =D Still like some elements that made UW more able to win matchups (mainly the presence of half-proactive-half-reactive cards like Search and Gideon), but Humans requires more mainboard removal, and Charm is better than Seas rn.
So a list made 5-0. Who cares? I don't believe that list would survive day 1 of a premier-level Modern tournament right now. There's so much fluff (and slow fluff at that) in that deck.
Thats what people have said about esper lists in the past too, and its happened before.
I would cut some serum visions for some more paths, maybe a few other changes, but its not like the list is wildly underpowered.
People have said that think twice and esper charm are unplayable in modern for years, and yet the deck still managed to stick around.
Modern is not the fastest its ever been, and its not like replacing think twice for search for axcanta reduces the amount of fluff in the deck.

Ok. First, how do you mean "stick around"? Because I don't exactly see Esper control tearing it up anywhere. Second, the list that was linked is filled with fluff that makes it slow for the current metagame. You're right in that we're not dealing with turn 2 or 3 Infect kills, but that doesn't mean I would want to sleeve up something that's loaded with air. If the format ever gets slow enough that 2 Sphinx's Revelation, 4 Think Twice and 4 Esper Charm is good again and not clunky, please wake me. Until then, I can't imagine wanting to play all of that while Humans is the most popular deck seemingly everywhere.
I went 6-1 in the modern seat of a team tournament last Saturday playing my esoer gifts list, only loss being a match against storm, crushing 2 humans decks, Jund and Affinity. Winning a close match against Jeskai something else I can't recall without my notes handy.
I liked the above list as a throwback except no serums please. If you're doing draw go with no sfa or jtms then commit to it and no sorcery speed cantrips (just run some opts if you want). Also no gy hate in the board looks like asking for trouble to me - should likely have rip or surgical. Classic mode we either did clique with rip or thoughtseize w surgical but youve got both in the 75 so dunno. Also timely reinforcements sticks out a bit but maybe a necessary evil to bridge into verdict vs the gross decks.

I've been playing a list with some results in my meta recently, being 3-0 yesterday and 2-1 before that. I read carefully all the comments on the previous page and tested some things I discussed with Cody a couple of pages ago and settled on a list that works for me right now.
I've managed to win against Burn more frequently, being 2-0 against it yesterday and 2-1 the event before. I've got game going also against combo, so that's fine. Affinity is above 50%, so I'm fine with that. I'm having some issues with BG/x however (that doesn't worry me much). I'm yet to play against Humans though.
About Jace and Teferi, I won yesterday with Teferi's +8 ability and it is a solid planeswalker. Maybe Jace is more powerful, but a 1/1 split is sweet for me. Also, I've set aside WSZ or StW : they were okay, not having and the planeswalker give the inevitability too.
I think you'd be happy with a second Teferi Tom, with all the other draw do the 2 sphinx's revelations really feel necessary?
I don't feel comfortable getting away with only 1 Sphinx's Revelation. The card is always good : it's not the most efficient one when you cast it for 2-3, but in the late game, it wins on the spot. Yesterday, I casted it for 11, and that was game.
About Teferi, I won a game yesterday also with him. He's solid. Real good. But I think Jace has some upside too. On an empty board, I prefer Jace. With things going on, Teferi might be better.
Ok guys I went to 2 tournaments recently, with a list similar to the one I posted a couple pages ago.
First tournament, a couple of weeks ago I went 2-1-1 with wins against Devoted Company (2-1) and Mardu Midrange (2-1), a 1-1 draw against BW Eldra-Taxes and losing 2-0 to BW smallpox on the final round. The smallpox matchup didn't feel great, though it seemed winnable. Can't recall detail about the games though since 2 weeks have passed already. The biggest change I made posterior to that was to move the 2 Vendilion to the sideboard.
It's pretty long though so I'll write a report about what I can remember:
Round 1: 2-0 against RG Ponza
G1: I mulled to 5 and he kept a dorkless hand so I countered and killed his 3 drops, then droped Gideon and started smashing face (he had way more cards than I due to no mull and 2 clues from a Tireless Tracker). Basically tempoed him out, killing a Courser of Kruphix post draw step to avoid him playing the 6th land. G2: can't recall much of sideboarding but I did bring in Celestial Purge, Thoughtseize and Vendilions. Decided against Disdainful Stroke because of the amount of problematic 3-drops they play. He had no dork after a mull to 6, he stone rained my basic Island on T3 but I eventually drained him out of resources and ended the game with Jace's ult after some Jace + Gideon satanic lock.
Round 2: 2-1 against Affinity
G1: He played first and didn't have the most explosive hand in the world but did have T2 plating and T3 plating. I Verdict and keep trying to catch up with every creature as platings make them pretty big. I even get rid of 2 Etched Champions, but I ended up dying with an active Azcanta which didn't find removal (I wrote my life total wrong; turns out I couldn't fetch a shock to opt into removal as I was out of basic Islands). G2: I brought in 2 Stony Silence and 1 Settle the wreckage, out 1 Negate, 2 (???). I won without Stony Silence but can't recall much. G3: I Spell Snare his Cranial Plating and then cast Stony Silence while he only has an Ornithopter, a Springleaf Drum and his only lands were 2 Darksteel Citadel. Landed a Jace and fatesealed until ultimate.
Round 3: 2-1 against Devoted Company
G1: I kept a removal-light hand, killed a first Devoted Druid and let live the second. I tapped out for a Settle the Wreckage and he played Vizier of Remedies and comboed me out. I could have gone for no Settle and Esper Charm in hope of drawing a 1-mana removal but he didn't play Vizier on the previous turn so I didn't thought he had it. Maybe it was wrong, but I really wanted him to blow up his attacking Qasali Pridemage to get my Search for Azcanta so I could play the second one I had in hand. Turns out he just killed me. G2: I'm never sure how to SB against this deck. I think I went with 1 Thoughtseize, 1 Dispel and 1 Vendilion but can't really remember what I took out. I can't recall much, I think he ended up losing due to not having black mana for his Sin Collector. Funnily enough, I forgot to side out my 1 Negate, saw it on my opener, mulled to 6 and then ended up finding it with Azcanta with a Collected Company on the stack. G3: he was on 2 lands and I killed everything he played, he never drew a third land so I just tempoed him out with Snap beats and bouncing his creatures with Jace.
Round 4: 2-1 against BUG Infect
G1: I knew what he was playing, mulled a 6 lander + Gideon and killed his 2-3 first infect creatures but ended up dying. G2: brought in Settle, Brutallities and I think 2 Vendilion, taking out 1 Negate and can't recall what else. I stabilized and ended up winning after Settling his attacker when he went for it with Spellskite backup. G3: can't recall much but Supreme Verdict won this one I think.
G1: He discarded my Jace and my Gideon and we ended up in a Tar Pit war. He won the topdeck war with some removal and an Ooze I think (maybe 2) while I had 2 Logic Knot in hand, really close game for both. G2: I brought in 2 Timely Reinforcements, 2 Vendilions and took out 3 Logic Knot and 1 Negate (I can recall reading Reid Duke arguing that counters are bad against BG because games tend to go to a topdeck war and drawing a counter sucks, and my G1 supports this way of thinking). I Vendilioned away his Liliana, the last hope and I think this was a fast game. G3: I remember a T3 Liliana of the Veil, I eot Vendilion in t4, he responds with Vendilion but leaves Push in my hand. I field of ruin, push Vendilion in response and bring Lily to 2. He edicts but loses afterwards can't remember how.
The deck felt good, though I mulled a lot due to clunky openers. I finally could find a 4th Esper Charm so I might move Gideon to the sideboard for that (or just cut a Jace). I also took a second Tar Pit with store credit so I might work that in, but so far I won't make bigger changes. Cheers!!
@ Lueseto : great report mate! I watched the first match against Ponza (didn't have time for more), but it feels like you played very well. Also, your list is interesting. There's a few things I wouldn't do in my meta, but I'd like to discuss it maybe here :
1) Only 2 manlands, no Colonnade, makes me cringe a little. 4 Island and 2 Plain feels too much maybe also. I'd go with 3 manlands, 3 Colonnade preferably. If you have a 2nd Tar Pit, then that should help.
2) 3 Jace feels a lot! I'm running 1 and 50% of the times, I don't find him incredible. I'm running Teferi in the side for blue mirrors, but Jace doesn't feel great right now. He's fragile to Burn, slow to ultimate. And Brainstorm is good, but you have to get ahead. However, I think it did good work for you, but from my experience, he's not amazing now.
EDIT :
for everyone, I'm thinking about having 4 Cryptic Command, but I'm not sure. Thoughts on this guys?
Hey! Yeah, currently I'm waiting on buying Colonnades because I've put a lot of cash to complete the deck as I pretty much just had the snaps and Polluted Deltas. An argument can be made about cheaper to activate manlands, but I'll be honest and say that Shambling Vents makes mana pretty awkward. The lifelink is great, but it's just that I'd play any blue manland over it. I will add the second tar pit and for the time being I'm keeping the Vents but as soon as I get hold of a Colonnade it will go away.
On the 3 Jace, I started playing 1, then went up to 2, and now I was trying 3 as I pretty much want to draw him every game. As I said, I'm looking for something to cut on the upper part of the mana curve but I'll cut just the Gideon for now. I know everyone has been saying that Jace sucks in modern, but I can't recall many games I've lost after untapping with him. And with the plethora of removal this deck runs, that hasn't been so difficult in my experience. Keep in mind I'm playing no Revelation so I depend on Charm and Jace to draw cards. That being said, I might go down to 2 if I ever get a hold on a Teferi, at least to test it out.
People are hard on jace, IMO. He's still a fine card to play, and he provides a lot of value if you can keep him in play.
He's fine. But ''if you can keep him in play'' might be the issue. Honeymoon is pretty much over, Teferi took over in several builds. He's still one of the best planeswalker we ever had, for sure. It might just be that we had such great expectations that are now deceived, that's maybe why we feel he's not up to the test.

People who said Jace would wreck modern just did not look at power level in the context of a format. Planeswalkers are generally stronger in slow formats like standard and more non creature spell based formats like legacy and vintage. Tapping 4 at sorcery speed without cheating mana, affecting the board, or having free counterspell backup is just asking to die in modern.
