I just read this and I feel like it can also be helpful to occasionally sideboard out 1 to 2 mill rocks against certain matches like dredge/living end/and some control decks because sideboard options may provide a better lock and too much mill can be dangerous if it backfires.

Playing tonight at my old shop where I first started playing. They used to do only standard but I convinced them to do Modern this week for my birthday tonight. Got a couple people from my normal shop to come up so I know I'll be seeing Kiki-chord, Eldrazi Taxes (my fiances deck), Revolt Zoo (my Brother), white weenies, and mono red burn. I think we have a good mnatch against all of those except maybe Revolt Zoo with a fast hand. Not sure what to expect out of the people that usually play at the shop, nothing Tiered I'm sure unless they're using their standard decks, none of which I think pose a problem for us unless we can't find a needle for Marvel. Full write up coming tomorrow, I'll remember to take notes this time.

Hey, thanks a lot for your feedback. I'm happy you liked the video!
About the sideboard plan against Azorius Control: I understand your point in keeping the 2 Abrupt Decay in. So your sideboard plan would be like this one?
I'm especially interested in your decision of not boarding in the Crucible of Worlds. Can you please tell me more?
So I don't see Crucible of Worlds as a card to board in against UW Control because at the end of the day I donn't see a use behind it. The only land these decks have that you would want to be Ghost Quartering to deal with are Celestial Colonnades, which end up getting dealt with by your Ensnaring Bridges. Honestly from my experience these control decks have enough basic in them to the point where you're going to need to use Ghost Quarter over 5 or 6 times before they effectively become Strip Mines. That's a lot of time. If you want to argue being able to use Inventors' Fair every turn, then sure I can maybe see a reason to bring in Crucible. Otherwise I don't think it's worth it.

A better reason for crucible, as opposed to making your lands strip mines, is to get back your academy ruins and such, because uw control runs 4 ghost quarter of its own. ?
At the end of the day, my question is what is it you're taking out to make room for the Crucible? You don't want to take out any of your lock pieces, the sideboard plan we've been talking about already has you removing 2 Bridges, and you want to keep the Abrupt Decays as additional Stony Silence protection. You don't want to get rid of any of your discard either since it's all quite useful against UW Control.

From the talk of side boarding, I think a lot of people are forgetting that the deck in itself is a sideboard against their hate. Unless they are able to aggressively play and have plenty of defense in hand, the deck will do all the work by preventing them from ever drawing a response to the lock.. That's why it isn't crucial you sideboard in heavy. If your opponent activates a stony silence you destroy it and move on. You don't need to reshape the deck entirely or you will draw dead hands every second game.

Has anyone been using Lost Lecacy in their side lately? I've got one just sitting there, and admittedly I do bring it in fairly often, but I do wonder if there are better options.

I haven't really played this deck since it was mono-black but I have the pieces to put it back together with the exception of a single Mox Opal. I understand its importance to the deck but was wondering what I could replace it with on short notice. Up the land count by one?
I chose to put in another 5 colour land (Spire of Industry) as I'm running 3 maindeck Leylines (very relevant in my LGS meta). I'm not currently using a Sea Gate as the deck I've built is pretty stock so that I can make changes later depending on preferences. Will keep that card in mind going forward though - I've seen other people use it successfully.
Any advice on the counters company matchup? I'm rusty with the lantern and just took a major pummeling, but I feel like we have all the tools to beat it. I know I misplayed heavily but I would love to get some input on this one
hi I've been playing lantern for a while and just wanted to mention a game I played on Thursday. I was on the draw against titanshift, and my 7,6, and 5 hands had no lands. I mulled to four, and saw land land codex bell. I realized there was no way I would win with that so I decided to mull for my three leylines out of the sideboard. I went down to 1 and got a hand of ghost quarter.
I kept and drew a bridge. Then a lantern and played it. Then a lost legacy. He plays Chandra torch of defiance with another one on top and I draw pithing needle to stop it. At some point I blow up lantern to shuffle a natures claim By then he has 8 lands and scapeshifts for 2 valakuts and 6 mountains, remarking that that's all the mountains in his deck. I ghost quarter a mountain, keeping myself alive and keeping him from winning with valakut. On my turn I draw and play a land. He plays a Titan. I draw and play a land. He attacks me down to 11 and plays another titan. I draw a third land and slam bridge with just lost legacy in hand. He passes, and I lost legacy his natures claim, leaving him with no outs.
Also another time to bring in lost legacy is against ancient grudge

I don't think Tron is a super difficult match up when you know the match up. I've done some more testing against the Archetype with a friend of mine who has played it for years and I came to the following conclusions:
1) Like with every deck, you need to know what to lock your opponent out of if you can get the lock set up quickly. Sometimes you can just mill them out of their third Tron piece and their Expedition Maps and they have to play fair magic like everyone else. At these times the deck is pretty garbage and you have nothing to worry about.
2) Know what cards are good and what cards are terrible for your hand and theirs. Keeping a hand with too much discard isn't always great against Tron. If you can Inquisition or Thoughtseize out an Ancient Stirrings on the first few turns, or Thoughtseize their big mana play, that will help immensely. Conversly, proactively playing a Pithing Needle naming Karn or Oblivion Stone can definitely take you places.
3) Hold onto Abrupt Decays for Chalice of the Void, and hold Surgical Extraction for any Tron pieces you mill over. Chalice on 1 is how Tron makes the match up close to a free win since like 80% of our deck are one mana cards. Additionally, if you can hit a Tron land with a mill rock, surgical helps you make their deck fair for the rest of the game. And in a fair game, you will always win.
Ridiculous. Tron is an awful matchup for Lantern, spin it however you like. Tron simply has too many game breaking main deck cards. Karn, Ugin, O-stone...the list goes on. It's a 70-30 match up at best.

Honestly it depends on what version of Tron they are playing. Eldrazi Tron is an extremely easy match up because they don't run a lot of those problem cards you mentioned. They have no Oblivion Stones, favoring All is Dust instead, and for planeswalkers they run 1 or 2 Karn, with no Ugins.
The GB Tron decks are definitely more difficult but I don't think it's 70-30 by any means. From my experience playing against the deck it seems closer to 50-50 with whoever gets the better draws being the person who is favored. If you Tron opponent gets natural Tron into Karn, well then yeah they win. But if they don't get natural Tron by turn 3 and you get discard to disrupt them and are able to set up the lock quickly, then it's your game.

Eldrazi-tron is 90% eldrazi 10% tron. I think when people say "tron" it can be assumed we are talking about the GxTron with ancient stirrings, sylvan scrying, buncha eggs etc.
Gearing up for the starcitygames invitational.
I qualified for it with lantern at regionals (5th place at columbus)
But now I'm starting to get worried.
The amount of death shadow and tron variants I have been seeing is giving me pause.
I have been having a really bad time with eldrazu tron. The combo of chalice, tks, and karn has been rather hard to overcome.
Especially when backed by a solid clock like walking balista and reality smasher.
Bridge hasn't been as effective due to the tks, maybe I'm just having super bad luck vs it but I am 0-4 vs it at the last 4 fnm, most of the time my only loss.
Also my fnm has started preparing for me a great deal, most people have 5 to 8 side slots ment for me and the one affinity player.
A little over the top but I normally can maneuver through the hate.
I just been having serious issues with tron.
Been thinking of trying out a few cerimonius rejections and try to catch the tks or karns.
