I ran my typical list but took out two Chalices main, added a Chalice to the board (so one main, two board), replaced the 2 Chalices main with Trinket Mage and Pithing Needle from my board, and added Solemn Simulacrum to the board. Round 1 I lost g1 because I missed my fourth land drop, won games 2 and 3 with a Chalice on 1 against Infect. Round 2 my opponent drew extremely well and Cryptic Commanded my Tron lands twice into a fast Scapeshift with counter backup to kill my Snapcaster and get me to 5, then attacked me to 3 and had another land in hand. I would have won if I drew either Platinum Angel or Sundering Titan that game, or if I had a counter for either of his Cryptics. I brought in Negates and Squelches, but he drew triple Scapeshift and there wasn't enough I could do in time. I just had a hand full of counters.
Round 3 I won against Zoo 2-1. I won game 1 despite keeping a one-land six-carder (this was my second of four consecutive one-land hands, the first being the 7-card hand I mulliganed to get this) and drew my 2nd land before he hit his 3rd and cast Geist, so I was able to Condescend it. I assembled Tron and crushed him with Sundering Titan a few turns later. Game 2 I mulliganed another 7 card one land hand into a 6 card one lander with Map (I knew he didn't have artifact removal because I saw his sideboard with Mindslaver in the previous game) on the draw so I kept, drew my land, but lost to his Anafenza + Geist + burn with Negate backup. Game 3 I kept a five lander and crushed him.
Round 4 I won against Bogles 2-1. Game 1 I won by curving Trinket Mage into Chalice on 1, game 2 I lost before I could cast Trinket Mage, game 3 I curved Trinket Mage into Chalice and took a hit from a Bogle with Rancor + Unflinching Courage so after I played Chalice, I could flash in Snapcaster and block to kill the Bogle. He played a Kor Spiritdancer (after I had just scryed a Dismember to the bottom - I Dismembered one game 1, and if not I would certainly have lost) and started cycling enchantments while I assembled Tron and Mindslavered him, had him attack his Spiritdancer into my Trinket Mage, and cast three of his 1-drops for zero value. He had a Fleecemane Lion, so I just searched up Platinum Angel on my turn and cast it, then got Batterskull and equipped it to put him on a fast clock despite his 26 life.
Overall, the Bogles matchup remains at a 100% match winrate for Blue Tron, Infect remains somewhat favorable, Scapeshift can go either way but we win most of them and we have Jester's Cap, and Zoo can definitely go either way depending on the build. Small Zoo is harder than big Zoo.
Tempo. It buys us time with a cantrip to boot. After the first several turns mana leak just starts losing it's luster. Also, there are rare situations where we can remand our own spells back to prevent them from being countered in a control matchup.
I've been giving Stubborn Denial some thought. How do you all feel about it?
No chance. It's much later in the game when we resolve something that can trigger ferocious, and having something like Stubborn Denial dead in hand in place of whatever counter/cantrip we could otherwise be using sounds miserable. Sometimes we don't even bother with creatures and go straight for the Slaver lock.
Thank you I was wondering about the trinket mage package. Im going into tonights fnm with a list similar to estrattis. With 24 lands and the 2 talismans and a signet. The 3 chalices will be in the side. My meta ranges from small soo all the way to rg tron. The only duplicate decks were delver pod and zoo so I am not sure what to expect. But I appreciate the breakdown and gratz
Ok so I'm making Gr Tron but while I slowly buy the cards, I'm going to be playing Mono U Tron. I've seen many different lists floating around but my Meta seems to be abnormal and hopefully I can get some help crafting a decent deck.
My meta is as follows:
2x Burn (one budget ie no guides)
2x Infect
2x Storm
1x UWr Control
2x Scapeshift (1 might be quitting for Splinter Twin)
1x Splinter Twin (the guy quitting Scapeshift)
1x UW Tron Gifts
1x Zoo
1x Affinity

I can't help much as I'm still not that experienced with the deck but, boy, Chalice of the Void is sooo good in that meta.
Everytime I sell off my Chalice playset I hear how good it is. Well, looks like its time to get them back. What's the ideal configuration between main/side?
Hard to say right now, we need to wait a bit and see how the meta changes to reflect the loss of Pod. I am trying 2 in the main and 1 extra in the side along with a Trinket Mage package.

Has anyone thought of monastery siege? Filters our draws somewhat or can tax the opponents mana. And its not terrible in multiples
I really like this card...and will def try it when I get my hands on a few. I'm just not sure it won't be too slow. At any rate, helping protect our permanents from really cheap removal, and card filtering seems really strong.
It's a fairly rare occurrence, but what's everyone's take on the mirror? It seems like whoever assembles Tron first just wins, much more so than with GR Tron. Any thoughts?
Ghost Quarter is insane against them as you can kill a bounce land with the bounce trigger on the stack. It's a pretty even matchup but we are way more consistent than them.
There's no way Bogles is a bad matchup. My friends and i have a combined 100 percent win rate against Bogles in the last year. They literally can't beat a Chalice on 1 with a Platinum Angel.
Are you just aggressively mulliganing into Chalice or Trinket Mage against them, then?
Solemn was in the board because I couldn't find room main. It came in against zoo only.
I don't aggressively mulligan into anything. We just slow them down until we can lock them out.
I don't know what the correct number or ratio of Chalices is.
The mirror is 100 percent about killing Academy Ruins. I have a very high mirror win rate because i know this. I'm used to playing with a huge mana disadvantage because my opponents tend to draw way better than me. Bring in Squelch, Negate, and Jester's Cap.
Some explanation.
I cut Platinum Angel because never win me a game. Even with chalice to protect it in this meta it is so hard. Merfolk is so fast and do LD so PA is coming so late, BW token have 3-4 mana spell for exile it, with Junk i side out chalice and they run PtE. I ask you some advice about MD and Side in this meta. And which strategy is better against Junk and BW Token

i would add hard counter (spell snare x2) and 1 batterskull, cut 1 fabricate, 1 wurmcoil engine and 1 chalice.
to be honest, with that meta i would play another deck
I will test your option. Thanks so much. I know the meta is calling something else, but i really love Mono U Tron and for growing up the deck I need to understand how to manage aggro. Unfortunatly aggro will be always part of magic.
What's our matchup against RG Tron? Read in the RG Tron Primer that they apparently have a relatively easy time beating us.
Also, what do we do if Emrakul hits the board? The game may drag on for so long that they have the mana to cast it. The fact that it cannot be countered makes things so much worse.
I've lost to RG Tron before, but it doesn't happen often. Generally speaking, as long as we can answer turn 3 Karn we are in a good situation. Chalice on 1 is crippling, and Mindslaver is our main win condition. The only issue is if the game goes super long and they can get Emrakul. Jester's Cap comes in to either take out their Tron lands combined with a Ghost Quarter activation or to take out their Eldrazi and Karns.
Looooooooooo, I wasn't speaking about statistics, just concrete data. Statistically, my opponents and I should draw equally well over an infinite number of matches. I have not played an infinite number of matches, and my opponents have had a large mana advantage in the majority of my blue Tron mirrors. I'm not sure what the point of your comment was, if you were just trying to be a smartaleck or if you actually had an issue with my observation.

Yeah it's statistically reliable that opponents always draw better.
