Sorry, I must be a bit thick, since I am not quite understanding and need slightly more explanation. I assume what we're actually interested in is Rubble since otherwise we'd just play Mana Leak, but I can't imagine a situation where I would want to take a turn off from flashing back Faithless Looting or whatever in order to sort-of Time Walk our opponent.
Right, you're playing most cards because for their benefit when they're in the graveyard. Rubble is a Time Walk for yourself. Did you ever play Tangle Wire? It's like that. Press the advantage that you built in the first two turns until you are ready to attack, Loam, Conflag for the win (I'm used to testing decks that aim to chain Rubbles together. I've never played just one.).
My current sb, I feel like it's pretty good against the pro meta. I feel like Abrupt Decay is a great catch all, I also don't really care for nature's claim, giving them 4 life seems like it could hinder our beat down plans. Thoughts on the rest?
I dunno if I deserve that much praise. But thank you. So the reason you run rally is the same as me, its just the better clock than devil, and I found the clock to be better overall then devils utility. I do really love that mana base too because of the lack of pain. It feels really smooth all the time. Ironically, I think I did also talk about doing 3 thugs and 4 loams in one of my posts. That I could see an argument for either side, and I was unsure which way to go, but I like your point of view here.
Thanks for repping dredge (and all of you that did!) and showin' what we got.
Grats on the finish. I'm starting to learn Dredge and I do have a few questions. Do you board out Haunted Dead or Rally G2 and G3? Could you share a little about your sideboard choices against Death Shadow and Tron?
The argument in the past was that Scourge Devil did as much damage as Rally unless you have 4 or greater creatures, and therefore Rally was "win-more." I think, though, that Rally does more in general with Narcomoebas and spirit tokens. The point isn't damage per creature in many games, but damage per creature with evasion. This is particularly the case against Death's Shadow archetypes (although those are favorable generally).
Rally's instant speed also helps against Cryptic Command.

I never think it was winmore. The going rates for rally and devil were a pretty even split online until about a month or 2 back where a pro mentioned devil and the hivemind latched on. But you are correct. devil is better on a field that has been stalled with removal or wipes, and is better vs stuff like extraction. But since the tides have shifted more to race than removal, rally seems better.
Truthfully, the more you talk about it walachh, the more a printoutable guide to siding makes complete sense... even in the smaller events. Dredge has a ton to worry about, engine consistency, what counter hate cards they will bring in... ect ect. While I still advise against people just printing out a guide they found online and assuming its the gospel, because you need to learn WHY the cuts and add ons are happening... I do think its better to make a guide youself (or modify someone elses because you get the reasoning)
It simply cuts down on the giant amount of ***** you need to remember. mind tossing us the sideboard guide you used? I wanna steal it for myself and modify it as I make deck changes.
How many times did you lose to it? I feel like my match win percentage (though still a small sample) is very favorable. I mainly only lose to Temur Battle Rage variants of the archetype. I like Lightning Axes in the match-up, but if you're losing to cards that aren't their dudes, then Start//Finish and Deadly Allure aren't the point.
Yep, grixis DS is pretty hard. Besides the discard, stubborn denial is a real problem. Very often you have lethal with an alpha strike + rally or loam conflagrate, but if they have denial you lose because you made their DS huge, lost some blockers and don't have any mana left to put down some more. But if you wait too much you're forced to chump block and/or they chip at your life total until they can alpha strike you with a bit of removal for your blockers.
And you're right, mulliganing to a two-enablers hand is way too greedy.
Thoughtseize is decent against them, but you can only side them in matchups where they have a huge impact, since it's a very real cost to side them in.

Sure. I'll try to add the reasoning behind each sideboard plan, but that's going to take a while so I'll probably do it in a few days.
I 100% agree about the stubborn denial. I was playing against Brad Nelson who was on Grixis Death's Shadow in a feature match (not the main one but you could see my back on the stream haha) at SCG Baltimore this past weekend and he was dead if he didn't have stubborn denial. I know I could've played the earlier game a little differently. One or two decisions changed a lot. But at that point, he was at 2 I either needed to top deck a land and bring back my bloodghasts. I drew faithless looting and went to conflagrate him for 2 and he had stubborn denial so I would die next turn to death's shadow and tasigur.
That was my round 7, my 2nd loss for the day, and I lost round 8 to bogles which took me out of day 2. That made me miss having engineered explosives in the side but I still think it's fine.
Can anyone figure out why Been Friedman's list had 3 Maelstrom Pulse in the sideboard?? It's been baffling me for days, I have no idea why he wants it.
Greetings all! I decided to play Dredge for FNM last night and boy it went well with the changes to my deck I made.
Round 1: (Opponent's deck: W/B Home Brew control & aggro) Whenever I face a deck that has black and white, I know that it would be a hard match; however, things went a lot better than expected.
Game 1: My dredges were really on point and I managed to hit things I wanted. My opponent runs mainboard Surgical Extraction which scared me a lot but they didn't hit something I couldn't win without, that being they hit Conflagrate. Sideboard Tech:
Game 2: Game one went so long, we were the only players left. That being said, my dredging went very well and I manages to win with value of my favorite card in my deck, Haunted Dead.
Round 2: (Opponent's deck: W/U Control) My meta has quite a few control players and overall run white in decks, I was dubious with deck because they have access to a lot of graveyard hate.
Game 1: My dredging was insane. Turn 1 I played Insolent Neonate, used it's ability, and I hit Narcomoeba and 2 Prized Amalgams. This game ended very quickly from me bashing my opponent early on in the game. Sideboard Tech:
Game 2: Opening hand I had some sideboard cards; needless to say, I kept it. My dredging was insane yet again, by turn 3 I had 3 Prized Amalgams on the field. On turn 4 for my opponent they dropped Detention Sphere on my Prized Amalgams. My next turn I dropped Nature's Claim to end that and from that point forward, Dredge was with me. I had lethal on board but my opponent played Cryptic Command to tap down my team but I managed to then cast Conflagrate from my graveyard without worry of it being countered for the win.
Round 3: (Opponent's deck: Naya Burn) I really don't like burn and I knew that this match would be hard to keep up with my opponent.
Game 1: Very close game this one, I was done to 1 my and opponent just kept drawing lands for a couple of turns for me to get in for lethal damage. Sideboard Tech:
Game 2: Burn just managed to get there too fast and I didn't have answers for that even if my dredging was good.
Game 3: I didn't expect my opponent to drop Rest in Peace and I messed up for my boarding in my Nature's Claim to deal with that. That being said, They managed to burn my out even though the game was close.
Round 4: (Opponent's deck: Jund) My most hated deck in Modern but generally now with Dredge, I have a lot better matchup against them. Needless to say, it was a very good match
Game 1: My dredging was just very good this tournament and i managed to hit all of what I need to be successful. My opponent played some discard spells but I pretty much like having most cards in the graveyard Sideboard Tech:
Game 2: My opponent dropped Scavenging Ooze which does wreck Dredge a lot but luckily they didn't have any mana from that to eat key cards from my graveyard and next turn I cast Conflagrate from my graveyard to get rid of it. Conflagrate won me the game from continuing to dredge Life from the Loam to get value for maximum damage.
The tournament went very well. At the end, their were five 9-pointers and I managed to get 1st place because my opponent's win percentages were better than everyone else. My card shop doesn't play out top cut and they do payout for standings; needless to say, things went well!
For those that are interested, here is my deck as of right now. I made some changes since the last time I played.
Mainbaord, I Took out Scourge Devil. I never really used it much, though when I did, it was good. In it's place I added Darkblast as another value card for dredging and also picking off 1 toughness creatures I might see.
Sidebaord, I added a third Collective Brutality. Such a good value card for us in being able to fuel card in the graveyard and able to get rid of some spells, siphon life, and get rid of creatures potentially. I took out my only Inquisition of Kozilek for the room.
Collective brutality is back to being a good card. With the new company deck, theres a ton of good targets for it again, thank god. Burn was on the rise again too
He runs Collective Brutalities instead of Neonates and his SB consists of Engineered Explosives.
450 Unpowered Cube Cobra
2 Lightning Axe
1 Gnaw to the Bone
2 Darkblast
2 Thoughtseize
3 Collective Brutality

Thanks for repping dredge (and all of you that did!) and showin' what we got.

Anyway I am also learning Dredge so if you can share some sideboarding tips or maybe your whole list that would be great.
Modern - Burn
EDH - Neheb the Eternal
