I play 4 copies of anafenza, kin-tree bec. she seldom stays on the board its like a removal magnet; drawing multiples early is okay as it will still trigger bolster.
I play angel of thune bec. when things gets clogged up below evasion is gonna give you the advantage. I used to run a singleton baneslayer angel it was okay but i felt angel of thune was much better as it could act as another combo piece. Sigarda might cut her on my sb, before angel of thune i was running sigarda, yeah it flies, but i felt angel of thune was much better.
I want to put in 3-4 loxodon smiter on my list but im not sure which creatures to pull out. so far the only cards i could think off are
Here's the list from a PPTQ in Italy: Turin, where the winner used a Pod based deck without the Pod, thanks to Anafenza,Kin-tree spirit and melira it could go on combo with kitchen finks and viscera dragger, or also aggro run to the face.
Collected company add sprint to the deck and search for the pieces we need.
What do you think about? just a single win or a deck that can beat?
# William Pizzi - Podless - 1st
Most of my re-buys with Eternal Witness are things like Path to Exile or Collected Company. We do, however, have lots of little guys that tend to die and would never be Witness'ed back. I like that he is harder to kill then Viscera Seer and a larger threat than Cartel Aristocrat.
However I am a big fan of Seer because his scry sets up a Vampiric Tutor which generally ensures you don't just sit at infinite life - you actually win the game next turn.
What I find most interesting in this list is 4 Voice of Resurgence. I am enjoying this deck a lot, but only own one Voice at the moment. I had good success sacrificing Voice for value the last tourney I played. But in some matchups he is just a Grizzly Bears. Is it worth picking up 3 more for the main deck?

what im trying to say is sad already by the above poster

Having Varolz, the Scar-Striped, provides our small dudes the ability to boost a live creature making it a threat. But i don't know if its worth it over witness ability of replaying a combo piece to combo out.
Just like blood artist, it has its moments but the real question is really are these moments relevant or seen often.
@Aranthar
Running 4 voice i think was a metacall, it somewhat slows down burn abit, but realistically voice is good against blue decks.

Voice is honestly one of the best cards in the modern format. I run it as a three of, and against every deck I have played against Voice was always useful. I played a RuG Delver deck last week, when I Collected instead of going for the combo early on, I dropped two voices on his turn that my next turn I could cast creature without impunity. I also notice on a lot of MTG trade sites the demand for them is going up, so grab them now if you can.

I'm convinced. I added one to my Puca Wants, and noticed right away two other people who's Want lists contain almost entirely Collected Company decklist cards. CC is also now the #2 card trending on Puca, in the last week.
What you guys think of Heartwood Storyteller? I think for me Brimaz has earned himself a spot in the 60, he + Gavony late game when they've exhausted most of their removal has won so many games in a a couple of turns.
Not playing cartel aristocrat is probably wrong in the combo version. The ability to make it huge and give protection can't be understated.
Hello,
Cartel doesn't get big, it only gets protection, which is relevant sometimes when they are killing off your sac engine. But unless your running Varolz, the Scar-Striped, then i see your point, is that what your trying to say ? If yes then maybe, just maybe it could be another win condition.
@Nickmus
Im still convincing myself that brimaz is much better over angel of thune late game. But evasion factor for me is still prevailing, so im still sticking with angel of thune. And compared to loxodon smiter i feel its still a better pick maybe over brimaz. i've tested brimaz already and know how strong it is especially when gavony gets online.
I haven't tested Heartwood Storyteller, but i think Grim Haruspex is a much better draw engine, bec. voice of resurgence is somewhat similar to what heartwood is trying to do.
@Muten Yoshi
Yes i believe the deck could be a tier 1, but people are tweaking their decks to combat collected company users, and based on my online playtesting, you really have to find the right mix between the all out combo build route or a hybrid one.
Cartel Aristocrat can get infinitely big with Bolster triggers if you have Anafenza, Melira, Cartel Aristocrat, and Kitchen Finks. It can also get protection from all colors and can therefore generally attack for lethal without requiring Murderous Redcap.
I havnt tested it out tons but here's something i havnt heard anyone else talk about and maybe its good maybe it isnt. Has anyone looked at playing with athreos at all?
My background was pod, and the reason athreos never took off there (he was greatly talked about in those threads) was that he broke the pod chain and it was better to just keep poding for combos. But here you dont have that issue, he can be snagged with CC and either turns your dead creatures to bolts or keeps your hand stocked and the throttle to the floor. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this? I like the limited testing ive done with it so far!
I wouldn't count Grim better, you play him and they respond with bolt so you have gotten no advantage. Alternatively with Storyteller, you play him, and if they try to remove him you have gained a card at the very least, so unless they counter him your usually going to get far more value from him than you do grim. Having a mechanic similar to voices is a good thing, not a bad one as it becomes much harder to play around. The only bad side to storyteller is that he can also give your opponent draws if you are forced to cast non-creature spells.
Athreos is actually very interesting, I hadn't thought about it and as soon as you mentioned I was about to auto-include but then I took a closer look and found 2 possible problems:
1 - Does his devotion have to be online for him to be able to be cheated out by CC?
2- With cards like Finks, your opponent can pay 3 life to return it to your hand instead of persisting, I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing.. I mean we lose tempo by having to replay, finks but they also just took a bolt.. Is it worth? We also give our opponent a way to stop our combo for infinite life.
Good news! As i know this card well trying to make it work in pod i can answer those questions
1. No devotion needed. It is a creature everywhere except the actual battlefeild where it needs devotion. Hand, library, GY... Its all creature so it works with CC
2. Since its your card you stack the abilities ( persist and athreos occur at the same time) so if you want finks to persist put athreos ability down first, and then stack finks persist ontop, finks will persist, and your opponent choosing will fizzle since finks is no longer in the GY (you can do it the other way as well if there is a scenario where that seems more advantagous) i dont know when that would be but the options there.
I know it was talked about before in the thread, but has anyone tried yisan the wanderer bard? I know he isn't as good as pod but since everything we run is going to attract a bolt being able to go up the chain if he sticks or him getting bolted and letting something else live doesn't seem to awful. I have been using 1-2 of heartwood storyteller in my list and he usually always gets me a couple cards, im not 100% sold on him yet though.
Cartel Aristocrat can get infinitely big with Bolster triggers if you have Anafenza, Melira, Cartel Aristocrat, and Kitchen Finks. It can also get protection from all colors and can therefore generally attack for lethal without requiring Murderous Redcap.
Hello,
You've basically won once you where able to go infinite life, thats why i didn't looked at that possibility. Unlike what i've mentioned with Varolz, the Scar-Striped, think of it like a atog or ravager. But the problem i see is the scavenge cost might become a problem. If there's a similar card that would work something along the lines of that , it would be a nice addition so that you can also win via aggro and not rely too much on the combo.
@Nickmus
I see your point on Grim vs Storyteller. Valid and good point, but what are you willing to cut for it.
Atheros, is indeed interesting, maybe abit better than blood artist just maybe.., but i still feel Atheros is still not worth the slot, even if you add the ability when your creature gets discarded its still somewhat lacking, i know it gives your opponent the problem of killing your dudes and still getting 3 damage, maybe im just seeing it the wrong way. But once you are able to resolve him early you will surely benefit from it. hmmm..
Ah.. just wanted to add some notes on Atheros. Its ability can be hosed by grafdigger cage. As compared to Varolz, the Scar-Striped
@muten yoshi
hello, what do you think about Varolz, the Scar-Striped as an alternate win con in the main deck be it alone or paired with cartel aristocrat.
As someone mentioned it earlier, I could see this Scapeshifter Guy (white 1/1, bump the team for x, sry forgot his name) in his place, if you need a way to power up your team..
Well if thats the case I can literally see 0 reason not to play this card.. we can even get its devotion without too much effort!
The difficulty with Athreos is that it gives your opponent a choice. You will always get the worse of the two options. This makes him always worse than if he were just one of the options. Your opponent is at low life? He makes you have to recast your pieces. He is at high life? He just takes it and you get no card advantage. Without burn/reach to punish life loss, Athreos is unlikely to do what needs to be done in your current game state. By all means try him out, but in my experience I would just rather have a card that is reliable. Even his creature-ness can be controlled by an opponent.

The advantage of Haruspex over Storyteller is that he turns all of your other creatures into cantrips. Heartwood story teller not only hurts your own CC casting, but also only gives you cards when your opponent chooses, and never more than the number of non-creature spells they draw and play. Trading your mana dorks for cards in the mid or late game seems stronger than sometimes drawing cards when your opponent thinks the time is right.
