How necessary is burn hate in the SB? I haven't played the matchup much but with MB Finks and such I don't really see a huge reason for something as excessive as 3 Kor Firewalkers, which I have seen.

Honestly probably not that necessary at all. I 2-1'd it in a IQ Tuesday with 2 firewalker, 1 forgetender, but honestly the finks made him cringe more than anything.

decklist and tournament report after please!
Wondering how many Ooze you running since it's so good vs Gifts Tron, I think 2 MB is nice, but I know you are running Fulminator in the main and might not have room for them.
I played in a $15 modern tournament last night. First round lost to Mono U tron. Got paired up round two and lost to gr tron. Had a bye third round and just left. Tron is such a bad matchup.
I've been busy the last couple of days so I haven't really looked at the thread. I'm going to update the primer tonight and reply to some of the other posts here.
If you have any suggestions I'll check before the event (about 3 hours from this post). If I place decadently I'll write about it. Last time I got top 4 so I have high hopes!
A company list top 8'd the invitational which was nice to see. It however got utterly wrecked by G/R tron. I think I'm gonna have to test with the Jacob Wilson style Magus of the Moon splash. I expect Amulet bloom to grow in popularity, as I think it is a favorite to win the invitational. In turn grixis twin's popularity as the best twin variant along with having a good bloom matchup will make more people go grixis over straight blue red. I think magus gives us enough of a surprise factor that bloom and tron may be winnable. Along with fulminated and silence tron is manageable, and Bloom can be outplayed.

I don't even think Magus is that good against Tron as they still have Pyroclasm which is hard for us to beat.
I am finishing putting up the deck together. Hopefully I will have it in less than a week. I have a few questions you might be able to answer so I can finish my list.
I'm basing my list on the top8 list from the invitational, since I own most of the cards. I will tune on to other versions as I get spellskites or other pricey cards.
did a pptq today went horrible game 1 twin win game 2 jund lost 2-1 game 3 I didn't draw anything good game 3 blue white red control lost game 1 game 2 put him to 1 life and draw 6 land top deck war... and then green red tron. so I dropped at that point. final was the junderlying and the blue white red control that won vs me.. control won we were 19 small pptq and we had 6 twin...

It can be avoided if you Bolster onto the Magus somehow. But for the most part you are getting blown out by Pyroclasm yes... For now Fulminator mages are the best bet assuming you don't have your turn 1-2 dorks all destroyed. We can interact with them on our turn 3 on the play and turn 2 on the draw so you need to hope that you have the right cards.

I would say Blood Baron of Vizkopa is a meta call. Because there is a TON of BG/x decks and not UWR Control decks you aren't going to be running Thrun, the Last Troll to stop the decks since it dies to Tasigur and Siege Rhino, you are going to be running something to stop them. The Blood Baron stops those high-end creatures, and is also resistant to Path to Exile and Dismember. That's my guess as to why it's being played, otherwise I wouldn't suggest ever playing it.
As for Thidhollow Sculler over Thoughtseize: If you 100% know the meta and are only facing reactive decks that removing their Abrupt Decay/Lightning Bolt/Splinter Twin will give your deck enough of a window to combo off safely then play Sucller. If there is a chance that you could be playing a wide variety of decks in a single tournament and you are possibly facing some turn 2-3 losses (ie: Bloom Titan or Tron) or fringe strategies that you are not prepared for (ie: Ad Nauseum or Restore Balance or Nivmagus Elemental Combo) then you want a card to deal with whatever their deck is centered around turn 1 or else you are probably going to loose. Therefor paying in a daily online where the meta is relatively known and predictable it would be better to have a Tidehollow Sculler but at a PPTQ or GP you want the Thoughtseize. Just playing with the Thoughtseizes will get you more practice of what cards you should be taking and thus better your game. I suggest playing thoughtseize over sculler.

UR Twin 2-0

I felt really tight on mana today, and I'm not sure if cutting the 23rd land/3rd gavony could really have that big of an impact but it sure as hell felt that way. CoCo wiffed a bunch today, and I think I went infinite like 3-4 times today. Murderous redcap is really an annoyance as I rarely am in a position where I can A) play it or B) need it. Stony silence is a big waste because there is such a small amount of tron in my area. Also considering MD path as Tasigur is super annoying and 1 fiend hunter is spotty in terms of consistency. Anyway, more details tomorrow.
Amulet, Tron, and Twin are all bad match ups for the deck. All are extremely abundant, and this deck cannot afford to have 20% of the field as a bad match up. I also have a sideboard with 3 forge tenders, as to avoid getting blown out by pyroclasm/anger type of affects. Seeing as how control decks are the only other decks with board wipes, and we have voice to fight those I think that magus as a bullet that NO ONE expects is some pretty good tech. Even if they kill magus, that's still fine because they wasted a removal spell on something not part of the combo. Blood mooning decks that don't expect it, can be devastating. To make this work you do need to sacrifice slots for more forge tenders, which at this point I am willing to do. On a sidenote, A "Kiki-pod" list made top 32 of the scg modern iq which was interesting to say the least. It featured 3 siege rhino and Kiki. We may be able to learn something from it as it is essentially the other side of the pod coin if you will.

Twin is a fantastic matchup (15-1 record now). I haven't dropped a match vs bloom Titan, though I have lost g1. Tron is very rough g1 and feels somewhat favorable post board.
here is my version :
Lands
1 [RAV] Overgrown Tomb
1 [ZEN] Marsh Flats
1 [GTC] Godless Shrine
4 [KTK] Windswept Heath
3 [ZEN] Verdant Catacombs
3 [A] Forest (1)
1 [ISD] Gavony Township
3 [SOM] Razorverge Thicket
1 [RAV] Temple Garden
1 [IN] Swamp (4)
1 [SHM] Wooded Bastion
1 [A] Plains (2)
1 [DKA] Vault of the Archangel
// Creatures
1 [NPH] Spellskite
1 [M14] Scavenging Ooze
2 [DTK] Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit
4 [FNM] Kitchen Finks
4 [R] Birds of Paradise
1 [M11] Viscera Seer
1 [NPH] Melira, Sylvok Outcast
2 [CMD] Eternal Witness
1 [SHM] Murderous Redcap
2 [DGM] Voice of Resurgence ( want to run more , is great against delver in all its variants, and with mindcensor is a pain in the ass)
2 [CFX] Noble Hierarch
3 [FUT] Aven Mindcensor (on paper is a good pick, i got lucky though, i cast it on turn 2 a lot of times in response to fetch land, overall is a great beater with anafenza , is a good hate card and is ok vs mirror, maybe running aorzhov main deck and livala and an extra seer would be better)
3 [M11] Fauna Shaman (this is THE card, against mass removal you cast it after and , search for revilark and you are on board again, also if you put finks and shaman with a good collective is almost game)
1 [MOR] Reveillark (this is good but maybe could be something different, maybe angel / feeder)
3 [MMA] Tidehollow Sculler (this is the slot i am not so shure about, sometimes is great, sometimes is absolut crap, but if you draw it on late game is good food to shaman)
// Spells
2 [RTR] Abrupt Decay ( i want to run more , ooze is a huge problem and this card is solid vs liliana, affinity and twin.
1 [M15] Chord of Calling
4 [DTK] Collected Company
i had other list that had the spike feeder/angel combo and instead of running tidehollow i ran sin collector, with the list that had angel/feeder i made a top 8 on a 100+ event , i lost because i am an idiot in combat , but i am working on that, i lost to twin , i decided to combo instead of attacking with a good army of vocice token and a lot of bolstered cretures , and i lost an important turn because that bad choice, this deck is very , vert skill intensive. I love the deck because i love aluren and this is a modern version of aluren (nerfed of course), my approach is kinda beatdown/hate bear with combo. The main problem i had with the deck is chord of calling, in my other version i ran a single fauna shaman and that gave a lot of constant wins, so i prefer 1 chord(chord is good but you want it as a bullet , having 2 in hand sucks , shaman is far better with revilark and in mid / late game). I had succes resolving mindscensor on turn 2 , and he is a good beater with anafenza and hierach. Overall i think the deck is a good option vs the meta. I hope to hear your comments on my version . Tnx a lot and good luck with melira company to all of you =). Pd , sorry for my english

I'll be playing in a GPT Today with this list:
4 Birds of Paradise
1 Avacyn's Pilgrim
3 Viscera Seer
2 Wall of Roots
2 Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit
2 Melira, Sylvok Outcast
2 Voice of Resurgence
2 Scavenging Ooze
1 Spellskite
1 Qasali Pridemage
2 Eternal Witness
4 Kitchen Finks
1 Orzhov Pontiff
1 Murderous Redcap
4 Chord of Calling
2 Path to Exile
4 Verdant Catacombs
4 Windswept Heath
2 Temple Garden
1 Overgrown Tomb
1 Godless Shrine
3 Razorverge Thicket
2 Gavony Township
3 Forest
1 Plains
1 Swamp
1 Burrenton Forge-Tender
1 Kataki, War's Wage
1 Eidolon of Rhetoric
1 Reclamation Sage
1 Sin Collector
2 Fulminator Mage
1 Reveillark
1 Spike Feeder
1 Archangel of Thune
2 Abrupt Decay
3 Inquisition of Kozilek
Basically I'm still missing 3 Noble Hierarch and 3 Thoughtseize and some Linvala. I think I am going to take out the Spike Feeder and Archangel of Thune out of the sideboard and put in two more things right before the event. I think a 2nd Burrenton Forge-Tender and 3rd Path to Exile could be good. If I can get a Aven Mindcensor then that could replace the Kataki, War's Wage as I can probably beat Affinity without it.
If you have any suggestions I'll check before the event (about 3 hours from this post). If I place decadently I'll write about it. Last time I got top 4 so I have high hopes!
