I don’t enjoy playing Opponents with early threat + 6< discard spells. Jund, 5c shadow, GDS, decks in those fields all really suck to play against. Not terribly, you can still cheese a win (3x cantrip into Grapeshot for GG today lmao) but not easy

i feel happy just knowing so few of you guys have experienced the nightmare that is 8rack. its something i wouldnt wish on my worst enemies. I hope that your lack of experience persists. 8rack is still pretty fringe and it should stay that way.
storm on.

Need a deck for my Rptq and storm had been my baby for the past few months, however my record is abysmal versus shadow and I am afraid humans may be the new hotness in the short term.
Mostly concerned with shadow, I've tried a ton of different sideboard plans and basically my games go: discard into spellbomb into shadow with stubborn and I can't win. Has anyone had any success versus shadow?
I have an LCQ and a RPTQ coming up in 3 weeks, and I've more or less committed to storm, and with all the trouble I've had with the dilution of the fetchless version, so I'll be playing the list that Scott Simmons got 3rd with at the open in Cincy with a few minor tweaks
-Peer Through Depths over Opt. Peer rarely costs more mana, it's also an instant, and digging 5 cards down for anything you need (as long as it's not land or reducer) seems a lot better than Opt.
-Pieces of the Puzzle over a 3rd blood moon. I really want 2 pieces, but I don't know what else to cut for it.
Any advice or comments are appreciated.

Dont have to be a hard matchup. People just forgot about Torpor orb which shut down a lot of things in their list, its very useful against other decks like coco decks, humans and even eldrazi and taxes which has a lot of triggered abilities.
Im just playing one in my U tron but im considering having 2 copies of it in the side.
I have been considering 2-3 Torpor Orb recently, it stops a lot of problem creatures. Namely, Spell Queller, Thought-Knot Seer, Tidehollow Sculler, Blade Splicer, Snapcaster Mage, Primeval Titan, the list goes on and on. Whereas it doesn’t hurt us even one bit, it actually stops the Kiki-Jiki deck and the Counters company decks from being able to win through infinite triggers (Counters company can still make infinite mana, but they can’t use Anafenza or Kitchen finks for the infinite trigger portion!)
Thoughts on this moving forward??

Shadow is alright. I run 4 empties (1 main 3 side) and 4 pieces of the puzzle. I cut all bears for the match up. Just keep doing mini goblin storms and they'll die. don't remove grapeshot because surgical extraction can get you. sometimes they get too greedy on GDS and you can just storm 6 for a win.

... [...] ... The 2-4 damage you will take off your mana base is often relevant, however, and I am surprised that the advantage of less pain from your mana base is not a larger part of this conversation. In many matches that could be the difference between killing Edilon with a grape shot and being to low to cast the spells.
I ran some tests online and one atleast half a dozen games with one or two life points. With a fetchless mana base you can sometimes squeeze one or more extra turns out of it. Especially when you can prolong your life with defensive grapeshots. As I enter into storm the first time in paper, I am gonna adapt the fetchless list and build the list from that on.
I have some quick question:
1, Why do the most of players prefer Dispel over Swan song ? Is the 2/2 such a big problem to not play it ?
2, What would you side against Human deck? Bolts and Wipe away seem reasonable to me.
Thank you for asnwers
The issue with swan song is that in the match ups where it helps (such as potentially catching RIP and Eidolon), the 2/2 matters because these decks are generally creature strats and want to beat you to death with them; swan song may stop disruption but it shortens your clock as well.

Guys.. Im toying around with guttersnipe, this card has to be good somehow! The deck is stocked right now, so i dont see room for it, but.. Against wivh type of mu or meta in general would make sense?
The problem with guttersnipe is it's a creature that takes up space in the deck, and unlike Electromancer or Baral it doesn't make it easier to cast the 10 spells you'd need to win. It's a cute alternate wincon if everyone locally is on Lantern Lock (though somehow I'm 2-0 against it) but it would require an extreme meta abberrance to be better than the stock lists.

I'm currently 18 land, fetches, 3 electromancer, 2 opt and it's been working okay. I tried 1 maindeck EtW as a countercall to humans and Meddling mage (5 people brought the deck, never faced it)
I don't think I ever cast a game 1 empty, but I beat Affinity, Mono Green Aggro, and Death's Shadow before losing to Abzan in finals (Made a horribly misplay game 1 against an online ScOoze) but humans I'm not sure there's great answers to. The local semi-pro feels that storm's matchup is abysmal preboard and gets worse post-board - we have to jam a turn 2 blood moon and hope it cuts off their mana enough to slow them down - if they got turn 1 noble hierarch they probably ignore it by in large. Maybe we could test Gainsay over dispel?

Gainsay won't do much when their Meddling Mage is uncounterable or is vial-ed in.
I think our best card in that matchup will be Lightning Bolt, but perhaps Pyroclasm should begin to see more play as an additional option which can sometimes board-wipe them
I’m on 4 Bolt in the board with 1 empty main, 1-2 vs humans so far. If they have the T2 thalia into t3 meddling Mage the game feels nearly unwinnble, so maybe pyroclasm is the way to go.

I did some playtesting with a friend over the weekend, the matchup is disgusting. They don't even NEED thalia or meddling mage or reflector mage, they can just be presenting a turn 4 kill and force you to go off under poor time constraints. Actually having to fight through a meddling mage or a freebooter is just sickening.
Post board you'd think blood moon is your best card. It's not, twice I got a turn 2 moon and it was never relevant because he played a turn 1 aether vial and vial'd in hierarch, never had mana issues the rest of the game. Pyroclasm is okay, but we might need Kozilek's Return or Volcanic Fallout, because we need to be able to sweep in response to a Thalia's Lieutenant trigger or a Mayor of Avabruck. or else their entire team will be mostly out of range.
This is a deck we NEED to have sideboard tech for, to where I may cut the 3rd grapeshot (was running 3 main with 3 empty in the board, now 2/1 grape vs empty main with 1/2 in the board) and pieces of the puzzle for two fallout/KReturn

well this is why, till today, I don't go all in on grapeshot game 1 and still have a empty main.
Its still going to suck, but at least its not an instant scoop. An alternative is to main 1 bounce spell and merchant scroll(s).
